Glucose is utilized for oxidation and synthesis of various lipids in cultured rat embryos. The present experiment examined the effect of insulin on the incorporation of glucose into lipid fractions in rat embryos in vitro . Embryos at the 2-cell, 8-cell and blastocyst stages were incubated for 5 h in hamster embryo culture medium (HECM)-1 containing 14 C-glucose and 170 nmol/L insulin, or in HECM-1 containing only 14 C-glucose, and the oxidation of glucose in these embryos was examined. In addition, the total lipids of blastocysts were separated by thin layer chromatography and the radioactivity of the separated lipid fractions was measured. Oxidation of glucose was significantly increased after insulin treatment compared with that without insulin treatment in 8-cell embryos and blastocysts ( P < 0.05), but not in 2-cell embryos. Incorporation of glucose into lipids in blastocysts was significantly lowered by insulin treatment compared with that without insulin treatment ( P < 0.05). Most of the radioactivity was recovered from triacylglycerols of blastocysts and the remaining radioactivity was found in other neutral lipids and phospholipids. We conclude that insulin accelerates the utilization for oxidation of glucose and inhibits the storage of triacylglycerols in rat blastocysts. 相似文献

A 7-year-old female boxer dog died suddenly without any clinical signs. It was suspected
that the dog had arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy (ARVC) due to ventricular
premature complexes and ventricular tachycardia at 3 years of age. The final diagnosis of
ARVC was confirmed by histological characteristics, such as loss of cardiocytes and
fibrofatty replacement, occurring in the right and left ventricular walls. In the
cardiocytes, non-lipid vacuoles were observed. Cardiac fibrosis and intimal thickening of
the small arteries occurred without fatty replacement in the inner muscle layer including
the papillary muscles of the left ventricular wall. This paper describes the
pathomorphological details of an ARVC case with coincidental cardiac fibrosis in the inner

Horizontal transmission is recognized as a major infection route for bovine leukemia
virus (BLV), and cattle with high viral loads are considered to be a major infectious
source in a herd. However, a correlation between viral loads and the risk of infection has
been insufficient to use as a foundation for BLV control strategies. In this report, we
examined the epidemiology of BLV infection and the infectious source in a local area. In
2013–2014, BLV infection was investigated in 1,823 cattle from 117 farms in two adjacent
districts, Miyazaki, Japan. Seropositive samples for BLV were detected with 88 cattle and
in 14 farms. Phylogenetic analysis revealed that 94% of the isolates clustered into
genotype I and the remaining isolate into genotype III. Among genotype I, genetically
distinct strains were spread at each farm, and cattle infected with less than 3 copies/100
cells did not transmit BLV to other cattle for more than thirty months. This is the first
report of concrete data of viral load in relation to viral horizontal transmission under
the field condition. The data facilitate farmers and veterinarians understanding the
status of BLV infected cattle. This research contributes to BLV infection control and the
development of effective BLV eradication programs. 相似文献

To clarify the functional properties of potato pulp (PP), a waste product resulting from extraction of starch from potatoes,
we examined the effects of PP on cholesterol metabolism and cecal conditions in rats. Plasma total cholesterol (T-Chol) levels
were lower in rats fed a PP-supplemented diet for four weeks than in those fed a control diet. Cecal pH was lowered due to
an increase in the levels of cecal total short-chain fatty acids, especially butyrate, in the PP group compared to the control
group. Furthermore, animals fed with the PP-supplemented diet showed increased cecal ratios of Lactobacillus and Clostridia and decreased cecal ratios of Bacteroides and Gammaproteobacteria with slightly negative and positive correlations with plasma T-Chol levels, respectively. In conclusion,
ingestion of PP for four weeks is likely to improve both cecal conditions and cholesterol metabolism, suggesting that PP has

There are many paddy fields and large amounts of groundwater in the Tedori River Alluvial Fan in Ishikawa Prefecture, Japan. Water infiltration from paddy fields during irrigation may significantly contribute to groundwater recharge. Groundwater recharge is known to be one outcome of paddy farming, and in general is usually related to land use. However, a decreased area of paddy fields because of socioeconomic factors such as urbanization and increasing area of fallow fields has possibly affected the groundwater environment. Evaluation of the quantitative effect of paddy fields on groundwater is necessary for groundwater conservation. This study examined the relationship between differences in the depth of groundwater from just before the irrigation period to just after the first irrigation of paddy fields (increments of groundwater levels) in observation wells and the area of paddy fields around each well. The paddy areas within circular buffer zones, which were delineated at 0.2 km intervals between 0.2 and 2.0 km centered on each observation well, were calculated. A positive relationship was found between the rise in groundwater and the area of paddy field within different buffer zones at most wells. In addition, in the middle or upper part of the fan, the effect of changes in the area of paddy fields surrounding the well on the groundwater level rise was greater than that on the lower part of the fan. 相似文献

Stem rot and wilt of Jew’s marrow (nalta jute, Corchorus olitorius) were found on Is. Okinawa, Okinawa Prefecture, Japan, in March 2000. An anamorphic fungus, Lasiodiplodia theobromae was isolated repeatedly from the diseased plants and demonstrated to cause the disease. A 5-year-old male mixed-bred boar-hunting dog with a Plott hound background weighing 23 kg was brought to the Veterinary Teaching Hospital, University of Miyazaki, in October 2002. The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of rider's skill on the plasma cortisol levels of trekking horses on two courses, walking on field and forest courses (about 4.5 to 5.1 km each). Three riders of different skills did horse trekking (HT) in a tandem line under a fixed order: advanced‐leading, beginner‐second and intermediate‐last. A total of six horses were used and they experienced all positions in both courses; a total of 12 experiments were done. Blood samples were obtained before HT, immediately after and 2 h after HT. As a control, additional blood samples were obtained from the same horses on non‐riding days. Irrespective of the course and the rider's skill, the cortisol level before HT was higher than that of control (P < 0.05). In both courses, the cortisol levels immediately after HT ridden by the advanced rider were higher than that of control (P < 0.05). However, in every case, the cortisol level 2 h after HT was closely similar to the level of the control. Thus, we concluded the stress of trekking horse was not sufficient to disturb the circadian rhythm of the cortisol level, irrespective of the course and the rider's skill. 相似文献
