Two pathogenic strains of E. carotovora subsp. carotovora 2T-2 and TT-4 with high bacteriocin activity but low sensitivity to the bacteriocins of other strains were treated with ethyl
methane sulphonate (EMS). Two avirulent mutants A-f-39 and B-e-19 developed from 2T-2 and TT-4, respectively, by this treatment
had the same bacteriocin activity as their respective parents and inhibited the in vitro growth of pathogenic strains of this species. The disease control of these two mutant strains were compared in the field in
1995 and 1997 to the control by CGE234M403 (M403) (a commercialized biocontrol agent), a mixture of A-f-39 and M403, and an
agrochemical (basic dithianon-copper chloride). The protection obtained with A-f-39 was comparable to M403 and was better
than that with the chemical. The mixture of A-f-39 and M403 consistently gave the best results in all the field trials.

Canine calicivirus (CaCV) No. 48 strain isolated from a dog with fatal diarrhea is known to be able to replicate in MDCK and primary dog kidney cells. In this study, two new canine cell lines, MCM-B2 and MCA-B1, were determined to be permissive for CaCV No. 48, whereas other cell lines, including one canine cell line, A-72, were non-permissive. Flow cytometric analysis indicated that CaCV No. 48 binds efficiently to the permissive cells and to some degree also to Vero cells that are non-permissive for the virus, but does not bind to the other non-permissive cells tested. Both the permissive and non-permissive cells could be transfected with genomic RNA from CaCV No. 48, resulting in the appearance of CPE, production of capsid antigen and release of infectious progeny. These results suggested that the early interaction of the virus with cells, probably by binding to a virus receptor on the cell membrane, is the major determinant of CaCV No. 48 cell tropism in vitro. 相似文献

Almost all of the soybean cultivars (Glycine max L. Merr.) form nodules on their roots by infection with Bradyrhizobium japonicum. However, it has been observed that the soybean cultivars harboring nodulation conditioning genes, for instance Rj 2, Rj 3, and Rj 4, do not form effective nodules with some strains of B. japonicum. Ishizuka et al. (1991b) classified the rhizobia isolated from field-grown soybeans into nodulation-types A, B, and C based on the compatibility with these Rj-soybean cultivars. Nodulation-type B is incompatible with Rj 2 Rj 3-cultivars and type C is incompatible with Rj 4-cultivars. Nodulation-type A rhizobia are compatible with both Rj 2 Rj 3 - and Rj 4-cultivars. Furthermore, the Rj-cultivars were found to prefer appropriate nodulation-type rhizobia for nodulation, that is, non-Rj-, Rj 2 Rj 3 -, and Rj 4-cultivars prefer nodulation-types A, C, and B rhizobia, respectively (Ishizuka et al. 1991a). We examined factors that affect egg distributions of amphibians, which are currently declining globally, in urban areas. We counted the number of egg masses of two amphibian species (Hynobius retardatus and Rana pirica) in ponds in urban green spaces during two years (2011 and 2012) and investigated the effects of local and landscape factors on them. Forest area in green spaces and pond area had positive effects, and distance from continuous forests in the suburbs and the rate of pond shore protection had negative effects on the number of eggs. Among these factors, distance from continuous forests and pond area had strong effects on egg distributions. These results suggest the importance of water habitat size and the need for colonization by amphibians from surrounding continuous forests. To conserve urban amphibian assemblages, the preservation of ponds with sufficient area and continuous forests close to urban habitats would be important. 相似文献
