This study aimed to identify the causes of death in dogs that were buried at pet cemeteries. Using data obtained from a questionnaire completed by 5,118 dog owners from 1 April 2016 to 31 March 2017, we estimated the life expectancy and the odds ratio for principal causes of death using multiple logistic regression analysis with potential risk factors as independent variables. The life expectancy determined at birth was 13.98 years. The commonest cause of death was senility. The odds ratios of dying of senility being significantly higher in Labrador Retrievers and Shiba breeds and aged dogs, and significantly lower in Chihuahuas, dogs living indoors and neutered dogs.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to clarify the effect of decreased food consumption on evaluation of myelotoxicity in routine general toxicity studies. Male rats were divided into the following 7 groups: 12, 15, and 18 mg/kg 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) treatment groups (FU12, FU15 and FU18); dietary restriction groups (R12, R15 and R18 receiving the same amount of food as the rats in the FU12, FU15 and FU18 groups, respectively); and a nontreated control group (NT). We compared the changes in body weight, hematology and the results of cytological analyses of bone marrow and histopathology among the groups after administration and recovery periods of 14 and 7 days, respectively. At the end of the administration period, the FU15 and FU18 groups showed decreases in many hematologic and bone marrow parameters that were all similar to those in the corresponding dietary restriction groups (R15 and R18). A granulocyte abnormality (polyploidy: frequency of 1% or less) was also observed in all 5-FU treated groups. At the end of the recovery period, increases in the reticulocyte and platelet counts and extramedullary hematopoiesis of the spleen were observed in the 5-FU treated groups. These results indicate that the results of general toxicity studies in rats should be evaluated in consideration of dietary restriction effects when food consumption is decreased at about 30-40% or more. Careful morphological observation of hemocytes would be helpful in distinguishing the effect of a drug from that of dietary restriction in relation to hematological and bone marrow parameters. Performance of a recovery test to determine the reactive response of hematopoiesis is also recommended.  相似文献

针对拖拉机斜坡直线行驶工况,基于拖拉机比例模型和3D打印技术,建立了模型拖拉机轮胎-地面载荷实验测试系统。以斜坡上侧车轮-地面载荷为主要参考量,提出了针对拖拉机前、后轮的侧向稳定评价指标(拖拉机前、后轮的斜坡上侧车轮载荷分配系数)。采用田口实验设计方法,选择前后轮轮胎类型、前配重质量、前后轮距和机具位置6个影响因素作为控制因子,以E级和F级随机路面作为噪声因子,设计了6因子混合水平的田口实验方案,并对实验结果进行信噪比和均值的方差分析。实验结果表明,对拖拉机斜坡上侧前、后轮侧向稳定性影响最大的控制因子分别是前配重质量和后轮距;得出基于前、后轮侧向稳定性评价指标的拖拉机最优配置,为拖拉机的稳定性优化设计提供了一定参考,也为拖拉机防侧翻预警控制提供了理论基础。  相似文献

Fatty acid composition is an important indicator of beef quality. The objective of this study was to search the potential candidate region for fatty acid composition. We performed pool‐based genome‐wide association studies (GWAS) for oleic acid percentage (C18:1) in a Japanese Black cattle population from the Hyogo prefecture. GWAS analysis revealed two novel candidate regions on BTA9 and BTA14. The most significant single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in each region were genotyped in a population (n = 899) to verify their effect on C18:1. Statistical analysis revealed that both SNPs were significantly associated with C18:1 (p = .0080 and .0003), validating the quantitative trait loci (QTLs) detected in GWAS. We subsequently selected VNN1 and LYPLA1 genes as candidate genes from each region on BTA9 and BTA14, respectively. We sequenced full‐length coding sequence (CDS) of these genes in eight individuals and identified a nonsynonymous SNP T66M on VNN1 gene as a putative candidate polymorphism. The polymorphism was also significantly associated with C18:1, but the p value (p = .0162) was higher than the most significant SNP on BTA9, suggesting that it would not be responsible for the QTL. Although further investigation will be needed to determine the responsible gene and polymorphism, our findings would contribute to development of selective markers for fatty acid composition in the Japanese Black cattle of Hyogo.  相似文献

A new disease of peach (Prunus persica Batsch var. vulgaris Maxim.), causing brown, sunken lesions and brownish to blackish brown spots with cracks on peach fruits, was found in Okayama prefecture, Japan, in 1995. The disease was observed not only on peach fruits but also on twigs and leaves. An Alternaria sp. was consistently isolated from these diseased fruits, twigs and leaves. The isolates were pathogenic to peach fruits and leaves. Based on the morphological characteristics, the causal fungus was identified as Alternaria alternata (Fr.) Keissler. After cross-inoculation with isolates from peach, Japanese pear and apple, the isolates were found to be pathogenic only to their original host. This is the first report on a peach disease caused by a host-specific A. alternata; therefore, the common name of black spot (`Kokuhanbyo' in Japanese) was proposed. Single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) arrays are widely used for genetic and genomic analyses in cattle breeding; thus, data derived from SNP arrays have accumulated on a large scale nationwide. Commercial SNP arrays contain a considerable number of unassigned SNPs on the chromosome/position on the genome; these SNPs are excluded in subsequent analyses. Notably, the position‐unassigned SNPs, or “buried SNPs” include some of the markers associated with genetic disease. In this study, we identified the position of buried SNPs using the Basic Local Alignment Search Tool against the surrounding sequences and characterized the relationship between SNPs and genetic diseases in Online Mendelian Inheritance in Animals based on the genomic position. We determined the position of 285 buried SNPs on the genome and surveyed the genotype and allele frequencies of these SNPs in 5,955 individual Japanese Black cattle. Eleven SNPs associated with genetic disease, which contained five buried SNPs, were found in the population with the risk allele frequency ranging from 0.00008396 to 0.46. These results indicate that buried SNPs in the bovine SNP array can be utilized to identify associations with genetic disorders from large scale accumulated SNP genotype data in Japanese Black cattle.  相似文献

Short carbon fibers, a reinforced material in wood veneer composites, were used to investigate the effects of fiber length and orientation of fibers on the elasticity of plywood. The technical feasibility, elasticity, and strength of the reinforced plywood with short carbon fiber were evaluated. In a short fiber reinforcement system, the fiber length does not directly influence the reinforcement in Cox's theory when the fiber length exceeded a certain length. When the length of short carbon fiber is beyond 3 mm, the high reinforced result was obtained in the experiment. However, if fiber length was too long, the reinforced result was less owing to the bridge between fibers and the increase of holes. The optimum fiber length must be considered. The orientation of fibers has a strong influence on the reinforcement. Unidirectional, perpendicular, and random orientation displayed different influence on the elasticity. Experimental results were discussed with Cox's method. Reinforced plywood with short carbon fibers in random orientation has a higher shear modulus and bending strength than the controls, in addition to other mechanical properties.  相似文献

Contamination of agricultural soil by fecal pathogenic bacteria poses a potential risk of infection to humans. For the biosafety control of field soil, soil solarization in an upland field was examined to determine the efficiency of solarization on the inactivation of Escherichia coli inoculated into soil as a model microorganism for human pathogenic bacteria. Soil solarization, carried out by sprinkling water and covering the soil surface with thin plastic sheets, greatly increased the soil temperature. The daily average temperature of the solarized soil was 4–10°C higher than that of the non-solarized soil and fluctuated between 31 and 38°C. The daily highest temperature reached more than 40°C for 8 days in total in the solarized soil during the second and third weeks of the experiment. Escherichia coli in the solarized soil became undetectable (< 0.08 c.f.u. g−1 dry soil) within 4 weeks as a result, whereas E. coli survived for more than 6 weeks in the non-solarized soil. Soil solarization, however, had little influence on the total direct count and total viable count of bacteria in the soil. These results indicate that soil solarization would be useful for the biosafety control of soil contaminated by human pathogens via immature compost or animal feces.  相似文献

Occurrence and survival of fecal-contamination indicator bacteria (coliform bacteria, Escherichia coli and Salmonella ) in various manure and compost samples collected from 23 composting facilities mostly in Kyushu were investigated by using selective media. Coliform bacteria were detected on desoxycholate agar from 11 (38%) of 29 product samples (15 cow dung manure, 4 poultry manure, 2 biosolid compost and 8 food waste compost) at a range of 102 to 106 cfu g1 dry matter. From positive samples, 21 isolates of possible coliform bacteria were purified. Among them, species of coliform bacteria ( E. coli , E. vulneria , Pantoea sp. and Buttiauxella agrestis ) were identified whereas isolates of Serratia marcescens , not coliform bacteria, were also obtained, suggesting that careful observation was necessary to avoid false positive counting due to the presence of a red colony of S. marcescens that resembled coliform bacteria. Isolates of E. coli were tested for slide aggregation with a set of antiserum against pathogenic E. coli serotypes and negative reaction was obtained for all the isolates tested. Direct detection of E. coli on Chromocult coliform agar and Salmonella on MLCB agar resulted in none and 2 (17%) of 12 samples tested, respectively. The fate of fecal-contamination indicator bacteria as above was followed during compost production on 7 cases at 6 compost facilities and 4 patterns were observed: fecal-contamination indicator bacteria 1) decreased and finally disappeared, 2) decreased once but re-growth was occurred on products, 3) decreased to some extent but remained in products, 4) was not detected throughout production. These results suggest that some fecal-contamination indicator bacteria may survive compost production and appropriate temperature control would be significant for hygiene control of manure and compost.  相似文献

Six (Landrace × Large White) × Duroc crossbred, castrated weanling piglets were used to evaluate the effect of a streptozotocin (STZ) injection to induce diabetes on the activities of digestive enzymes derived from the pancreas (lipase, amylase, trypsin and chymotrypsin) in the pancreas and intestinal digesta. Fasting plasma glucose after the administration of STZ was maintained at the level of 302–491 mg/dL during this experiment, compared with the level of 89–125 mg/dL in the control group, and they were defined as the STZ‐induced diabetic piglets for about 7 weeks. Although their bodyweight increased in proportion to a quadratic curve (P < 0.0001) during 49 days after the administration of STZ, the growth of the STZ‐induced diabetic piglets was slower compared with the control. The STZ‐injection did not affect the percentage of the pancreas in bodyweight. The administration of STZ in the piglets tended to accelerate the activity of lipase (P = 0.06) and depress the activity of amylase (P = 0.15) or chymotrypsin (P = 0.18), as units/kg bodyweight, in the pancreas. In the case of measurement as units/kg bodyweight, the activities of intestinal digesta in the STZ group showed a tendency to be higher than those in control group, irrespective of the sort of enzymes. In conclusion, STZ‐induced diabetic piglets have a moderate digestive ability and the administration of exogenous digestive enzymes is not necessary when they are used as a diabetic animal model.  相似文献
