Systemic mycoses were found in 19 (4.7%) of 406 calves less than 6 months old which were autopsied during the past 10 years. Alimentary mycosis occurred in 12 (63.2%) of 19 cases. In alimentary mycosis, mucormycosis showed the highest rate of occurrence (91.7%, 11/12 calves) followed by aspergillosis 41.7% and candidiasis was 9.3%. Mucormycosis and aspergillosis were characterized by focal hemorrhagic necroses with hyphal proliferation and thrombi in the mucosa and muscular layers of the forestomach, abomasum, and small intestine. Candidiasis was characterized by hyperkeratosis with pseudohyphae and microconidia in the mucosa of the omasum. Four of 12 calves (33.3%) had mixed infections of the alimentary tract consisting of Mucorales and Aspergillus species. Pulmonary aspergillosis was found in 10 (52.6%) of 19 calves. There were micro-abscesses with hyphal proliferation or asteroid bodies in the lungs. Infections involving both the alimentary tract and respiratory organs were noted in 3 (10.5%) of 19 calves. Disseminated mycosis was found only in one calf. In alimentary mycosis, administration of antibiotics for the treatment of diarrhea and early weaning were thought to be an important predisposing factor.  相似文献

A highly soluble quercetin glycoside, alphaG-rutin, is a glucose adduct of insoluble rutin. We examined the effects of difructose anhydride III (DFAIII; di-D-fructofuranosyl 1,2':2,3'-dianhydride) on intestinal absorption of alphaG-rutin by rat experiments. alphaG-rutin, rutin, quercetin, and the quercetin conjugate appeared in the portal blood after an intubation of alphaG-rutin (100 micromol), DFAIII effected higher portal concentrations of alphaG-rutin in portal cannulated rats. In ligated jejunal and ileal loops of rats, alphaG-rutin, rutin, quercetin, and the quercetin conjugate appeared in the intestinal mesenteric blood at both 30 and 60 min in both loops; the concentration of alphaG-rutin was 1.5-3 times higher when absorbed in the presence DFAIII. In the isolated mucosae of the jejunum and ileum, mucosal-to-serosal passage of alphaG-rutin increased with the addition of 100 micromol of DFAIII. These results indicate that alphaG-rutin is absorbed as the intact form and that DFAIII stimulates its absorption in the small intestine.  相似文献

Dihydrochalcones are a family of bicyclic flavonoids, defined by the presence of two benzene rings joined by a saturated three carbon bridge. In the present study, we systematically examined the antioxidant activities of dihydrochalcones against the stable free radical (1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl) and lipid peroxidation in the erythrocyte membrane. All dihydrochalcones exhibited higher antioxidant activities than the corresponding flavanones. The (1)H NMR analysis indicated that the active dihydrochalcone has a time-averaged conformation in which the aromatic A ring is orthogonal to the carbonyl group, while the inactive dihydrochalcone such as 2'-O-methyl-phloretin has a strongly hydrogen-bonded phenolic hydroxyl group, suggestive of a coplanar conformation. A hydroxyl group at the 2'-position of the dihydrochalcone A ring, newly formed by reduction of the flavanone C ring, is an essential pharmacophore for its radical scavenging potential.  相似文献

Summary DNA amplification fingerprinting using arbitrary primer(s) was applied to the identification of Malus species. Highly variable DNA fragment patterns were clearly detected by polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis of the amplified extension products, although three sports of Delicious exhibited the same fingerprint as the original cultivar. The fingerprinting of two triploid apple cultivars suggested that the parent contributing the 2n gamete was the female. We applied this fingerprinting to paternity analysis of an apple cultivar of which the pollen parent was unknown. By using 5 arbitrary primers and RFLP analysis of the amplified products, one cultivar was singled out for paternity among six putative candidates.  相似文献

The authors have proposed the close mixed planting technique using mixed seedlings of two different crop species that results in close tangling of their root systems. Especially, the combination of drought-adaptive upland crops (e.g. pearl millet or sorghum) and flood-adaptive lowland crop of rice would be beneficial to overcome the drought and flood conditions and to reduce the risks of crop failure. In our previous studies, we found that upland crop yield losses by flood stress was mitigated by mix-cropped rice, owing to the oxygen gas released from the rice roots into the aqueous rhizosphere. In the present study, we conducted two experiments to assess whether mixed cropping a drought-resistant cereal, pearl millet, would improve the performance of co-growing drought-susceptible crop, rice under drought conditions. In the field experiment, some grains were obtained from the rice plants mix-cropped with pearl millet under drought condition. However, no rice matured in the single cropping system. In the model experiment using deuterium analysis, it was confirmed that water absorbed by pearl millet roots from deep soil layer was utilized by rice, suggesting that mix-cropped rice could withstand drought stress and complete grain filling using water released into the upper soil layer by hydraulic lift.  相似文献

Depression induces anorexia, leading to suppressed feeding behaviors and energy intake. Previously, we revealed that chronic social defeat induced a mild suppression of feeding in rats with elevated levels of hypothalamic malonyl‐CoA which regulates feeding. Therefore, we attempted to elucidate the effects of chronic mild food restriction on behavior and on hypothalamic malonyl‐CoA. The chronic mild food restricted rats were fed a restricted diet approximately 80% to 90% amount of diet compared to the control for 5 weeks. Ratios of restriction were adjusted with feed consumption in the chronic social defeat stressed rats. Chronic mild food restricted rats exhibited a suppression of body weight gain similar to that of the chronic social defeat stressed rats. Also these rats showed increased time spent in the center area of an open field (OF), prolonged immobility time in forced swim, increased phosphorylation of hypothalamic adenosine monophosphate‐activated protein kinase (AMPK) and acetyl‐CoA carboxylase and a decreased concentration of hypothalamic malonyl‐CoA. Weight of the adrenal glands, locomotion in an OF, mitogen‐activated protein kinase cascade and calcium/calmodulin‐dependent protein kinases II in the hippocampus were not affected by chronic mild food restriction. Our findings suggest that chronic mild food restriction activates AMPK following a decreased hypothalamic malonyl‐CoA.  相似文献

The effect of lipopolysaccharide (LPS) on humoral and cell-mediated immunity was assessed using LPS-sensitive C3H/HeN mice. A single injection of LPS significantly decreased the anti-sheep red blood cells (SRBC) antibody titers, but not the number of anti-SRBC antibody producing spleen cells. In contrast, double LPS injection did not significantly decrease the anti-SRBC titers and even increased the number of anti-SRBC antibody producing spleen cells. Similarly, single LPS injection significantly suppressed the swelling of the footpad, but double LPS injection caused milder suppression. These results suggest that a difference in the level and timing of exposure to LPS may influence the immune response to infection or vaccination.  相似文献

Although dilution of lake water has been used for improvement of water quality and algal blooms control, it has not necessarily succeeded to suppress the blooms. We hypothesized that the disappearance of algal blooms by dilution could be explained by flow regime, nutrient concentrations, and their interaction. This study investigated the effects of daily renewal rate (d), nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) concentration, and their interaction on the domination between Microcystis aeruginosa and Cyclotella sp. through a monoxenic culture experiment. The simulation model as functions of the N:P mass ratio and dilution rate (D) (calculated from d) was constructed, and the dominant characteristics of both species were predicted based on the model using parameters obtained in a monoculture experiment and our previous study. Results of monoxenic culture experiment revealed that M. aeruginosa dominated in all conditions (d = 5 or 15%; N = 1.0 or 2.5 or 5.0 mg-N L?1; P = 0.1 or 0.5 mg-P L?1) and the predicted cell densities were substantially correspondent to experimental data. Under various N:P ratios and D values, characteristics of domination for each species were predicted, indicating that Cyclotella sp. tended to be dominant under high P concentrations (P ≥ 0.36 mg-P L?1) when the N:P ratio was less than 7.0, and M. aeruginosa could not form algal blooms at the N:P ratio ≤ 7.0 (N ≤ 0.7 mg-N L?1). It was also suggested that the dilution rate leading to the Cyclotella sp. domination required 0.20 day?1 or higher regardless of the N:P ratios.
