Drag force due to vegetation in mangrove swamps   总被引:8,自引:0,他引:8  
Field studies of tidal flows in largely pristine mangrove swamps suggestthat the momentum equation simplifies to a balance between the water surfaceslope and the drag force. The controlling parameter is the vegetation lengthscale LE, which is a function of the projected area ofmangrove vegetation and the volume of the vegetation. The value ofLE varies greatly with mangrove species and water depth. It isfound that the drag coefficient is related to the Reynolds number Re definedusing LE. The drag coefficient decreases with increasingvalues of Re from a maximum value of 10 at low value of Re (<104), and converges towards 0.4 for Re < 5 ×104.  相似文献

Acetylated fibers with a 24.8% weight gain by acetylation were ozonated with 0%–2.0% ozone on fibers. Fiberboards were then made from these treated fibers. The internal bond and bending strength of the acetylated fiberboards increased drastically with increasing ozone charge up to 0.5%–1.0%, whereas the thickness swelling of the fiberboards decreased. Ozone selectively cleaves the aromatic rings of hydrophobic lignin and introduces a hydrophilic carboxyl group into lignin. Thus, the wettability and thermoplasticity of acetylated fibers increased, and this structural modification improved the interfiber contact. Internal bond and bending strength increased as a result. In addition, steep density profiles were formed by the ozonation, resulting in high bending strength. The high compaction ratio accelerated the effect of ozonation. The optimum ozone charges for improving mechanical properties were 0.5%–1.0%.Part of this report was presented at the 49th Annual Meeting of the Japan Wood Research Society, Tokyo, April 1999  相似文献

This article describes the effect of day length during the photoperiodic cycle on the diurnal differences in the innermost surface of developing secondary walls. Saplings of Cryptomeria japonica D. Don. were grown in growth chambers at constant temperature and relative humidity, but with different photoperiods. Samples of differentiating xylem were collected during the light and dark periods. The innermost surface of developing secondary walls in differentiating tracheids were observed using field emission scanning electron microscopy, and observations made during the light and dark periods were compared. In the saplings grown under long-day or short-day conditions, diurnal differences in aspects of the innermost surface of developing secondary walls were observed. Cellulose microfibrils were observed on the innermost surface of developing secondary walls during the light period when the volumes of differentiating cells were low, and amorphous material was observed during the dark period, when differentiating tracheids were turgid. The amorphous material was labeled with antiglucomannan antiserum. These results suggest that the range of day-length conditions set in this study does not affect the diurnal periodicity in the supply of cell wall components to the innermost surface of developing secondary walls.  相似文献

To assess the possible utility of a fungal gene for manganese-dependent peroxidase (MnP) produced by a transgenic plant in phytoremediation, we transformed hybrid aspen with a chimeric gene for MnP. Our gene construct allowed expression of the gene for MnP in plants and relatively high MnP activity was detected in the hydroponic medium in which roots of plants that expressed the transgene had been cultured. Some of our transgenic plants were able to remove bisphenol A from the medium more efficiently than wild-type plants. Our results demonstrate that, without any modification of the coding sequence, a chimeric gene for fungal MnP can be expressed in a woody plant, with secretion of active MnP from roots into the rhizosphere. Our strategy suggests new options using woody plants for phytoremediation.  相似文献

A polymeric amphiphile, PE-AL, was prepared from acetic acid lignin (AL) obtained by acetic acid pulping of birch under atmospheric pressure with polyethylene glycol diglycidyl ether (PE) as the crosslinker. The behavior of PE-AL solutions and the complex formation of PE-AL with protein were investigated to clarify the function of this novel lignin derivative. The reduced viscosity of the amphiphile in aqueous solution was low (<0.3dl/g), and it decreased with increasing concentration in dilute solution. This suggested that the PE-AL in aqueous solution has a structure similar to that of Einstein's sphere and shrinks upon hydrophobic interaction among the structural moieties in AL and the exclusive volume effect. The amphiphilic PE-AL obviously formed a complex with bovine serum albumin (BSA) at 4°C with a reaction time of about 1 week. After complex formation with cellulase for 1 week, the cellulase activity of the resulting complex is significantly enhanced and is preserved after recycling the complex for hydrolysis of cellulosic materials several times.Part of this work was presented at the 48th Annual Meeting of the Japan Wood Research Society, Shizuoka, April 1998  相似文献

Optimization of the solid-phase extraction cleanup procedure enabled the GC-MS analysis of acrylamide in tea samples without the interference of bromination by tea catechins. Although polyvinylpolypyrrolidone (PVPP) is available for removing tea catechins from tea extract, the peaks derived from PVPP had the same retention time as brominated acrylamide in mass chromatograms obtained by GC-MS. A considerable amount of acrylamide was formed at roasting temperatures of > or =120 degrees C; the highest acrylamide level was observed when tea samples were roasted at 180 degrees C for 10 min. Higher temperatures and longer processing times caused a decrease in the acrylamide content. Furthermore, an analysis of 82 tea samples showed that rather than the reducing sugar content, the asparagine content in tea leaves was a significant factor related to acrylamide formation in roasted products. The acrylamide level in roasted tea products was controlled by asparagine in the presence of reducing sugars.  相似文献

Pro-inflammatory cytokine interleukin 18 (IL-18) has been proposed to have a role in modulating immuno-endocrine functions. Our previous study showed that IL-18 and IL-18 receptor (IL-18R) colocalized in somatotrophs of the bovine anterior pituitary gland, and the possibility that IL-18 acts on somatotrophs as an autocrine factor. In the present study, we investigated the localization of IL-18 and IL-18R in the pig anterior pituitary gland. RT-PCR analysis showed the expression of IL-18 and IL-18R mRNAin the pig anterior pituitary gland. Immunohistochemistry of IL-18 and specific hormones revealed the presence of IL-18 in somatotrophs, mammotrophs, thyrotrophs and gonadotrophs. IL-18R was localized in somatotrophs and thyrotrophs. Furthermore, the somatotrophs immunoreactive for IL-18 did not contain IL-18R. Thus, IL-18R and IL-18 were not colocalized in an identical somatotroph. These findings suggest that the localization of IL-18 in pig somatotrophs is different from that in bovine somatotrophs, although IL-18 closely associates with somatotrophs in the anterior pituitary glands in both species.  相似文献

The alphavbeta3 and alphavbeta5 integrins are known as transmembrane receptors capable of binding to the RGD amino acid peptide sequence. In mouse early gonadogenesis, some proteins containing the RGD sequence are deposited into extracellular space and participate in morphogenesis. We analyzed the expression patterns of the alphavbeta3 and alphavbeta5 integrins in mouse developing gonads (10.5-13.5 days post coitum) using whole-mount in situ hybridization. The alphav integrin mRNA was homogenously expressed in developing gonadal regions. On the other hand, the beta3 integrin mRNA was found only in large and round cells (presumptive germ cells), whereas beta5 integrin was localized in gonadal somatic cells, with the exception of coelomic epithelial cells. The beta3 integrin-expressed cells were determined to be primordial germ cells because the number of these cells was drastically reduced in busulfan-treated gonads. In this study, we demonstrated that the alphavbeta3 and alphavbeta5 integrins are widely localized in the mouse developing gonads and discussed their presumptive functions on mouse gonadogenesis.  相似文献

To develop ELISA to detect antibodies specific to Mycobacterium avium subsp. paratuberculosis (M. paratuberculosis), the carboxyl termini of the 34 kDa proteins of M. paratuberculosis and Mycobacterium avium subsp. avium (M. avium) were expressed in Escherichia coli expression system. Antibodies specific to M. paratuberculosis were detected with the truncated 34 kDa protein of M. paratuberculosis in ELISA after pre-absorption of serum samples with the truncated 34 kDa protein of M. avium. All the serum samples from cattle confirmed to be infected with M. paratuberculosis were positive and those from healthy cattle were negative in the present ELISA system. These results indicate that the established ELISA detects antibodies specific to M. paratuberculosis with high specificity and sensitivity and is an useful tool for the screening of Johne's disease.  相似文献

Neutral glycosphingolipids (GSLs) were isolated from Trypanosoma brucei and analyzed by thin-layer chromatography (TLC), TLC/secondary ion mass spectrometry (TLC/SIMS), and liposome immune lysis assay (LILA). Three species of neutral GSLs, designated as N-1, -2, and -3 were separated on TLC. N-1 GSL migrated very close to glucosylceramide (GlcCer) and N-2 GSL showed the same mobility as lactosylceramide (LacCer). On the other hand, the mobility of N-3 GSL on the TLC plate was slower than globotetraosylceramide (Gb4). In order to characterize the molecular species of neutral GSLs from T. brucei, N-1, -2 and -3 GSLs were analyzed by TLC/SIMS. The TLC/SIMS analysis of N-1 of the parasites revealed a series of (M–H) ions from m/z 698 to 825 representing the molecular mass range of ceramide monohexoside (CMH) (GlcCer or galactosylceramide). On the other hand, the TLC/SIMS spectra of N-2 GSL revealed a series of (M–H) ions from m/z 944–987 indicating the molecular mass range of LacCer. In the TLC/SIMS analysis of N-3 GSL, however, the characteristic molecular ions that can elucidate the structure of N-3 GSL were not obtained. In order to confirm the results obtained from TLC/SIMS, N-1, -2, and -3, GSLs were tested by LILA with specific antibodies against GlcCer, LacCer, and Gb4, respectively. N-1 GSL had reactivity to anti-GlcCer antibody and N-2 GSL reacted with the antibody against LacCer. However, N-3 GSL was not recognized by anti-Gb4 antibody. Using anti-GlcCer and anti-LacCer antibodies, furthermore, we studied the expression of GlcCer and LacCer in T. brucei parasites. Both GlcCer and LacCer were detected on the cell surface of T. brucei.  相似文献
