The crown profile, volume, and surface area obtained from 25 trees in a stand of 29-year-old Japanese cypress (Chamaecyparis obtusa Endl.) using a Spiegel relascope were compared with those obtained by direct measurement after tree felling. In 17 of the 25 trees, the crown profile measured with the relascope was identical to the crown profile obtained by direct measurement. For the 17 trees, the mean relative errors of crown volume and surface area tended to be unbiased. On the other hand, the crown profiles obtained by the two methods were different in five of the 25 trees, while it could not been judged whether the crown profiles obtained by the two methods were identical or different in three of the 25 trees. However, for each group of five or three trees, the mean relative errors of crown volume and surface area were also unbiased. Moreover, for both crown volume and surface area, no significant differences were detected in variance of error among the groups of 17, five, and three trees. Therefore, the discrepancy between crown profiles obtained by the two methods for the five and three trees might be negligible in terms of the accuracy and precision of crown volume and surface area measurements. The standard errors for both crown volume and surface area were larger in each of the five and three trees than in the 17 trees. However, even for the five and three trees, the crown volume and surface area obtained using the relascope were more precise than those based on the assumption that crown form was a cone or paraboloid. We concluded that using a Spiegel relascope would enable us to obtain an accurate and precise crown profile, volume, and surface area of Japanese cypress trees for practical use, especially when the main objective of measurement is determining crown volume or surface area.  相似文献

The anesthetic potency and cardiopulmonary effects of sevoflurane were compared with those of isoflurane and halothane in goats. The (mean +/- SD) minimal alveolar concentration (MAC) was 0.96 +/- 0.12% for halothane, 1.29 +/- 0.11% for isoflurane, and 2.33 +/- 0.15% for sevoflurane. Cardiopulmonary effects of sevoflurane, halothane and isoflurane were examined at end-tidal concentrations equivalent to 1, 1.5 and 2 MAC during either spontaneous or controlled ventilation (SV or CV). During SV, there were no significant differences in respiration rate, tidal volume and minute ventilation between anesthetics. Dose-dependent decreases in both tidal volume and minute ventilation induced by halothane were greater than those by either sevoflurane or isoflurane. Hypercapnia and acidosis induced by sevoflurane were not significantly different from those by either isoflurane or halothane at 1 and 1.5 MAC, but were less than those by halothane at 2 MAC. There was no significant difference in heart rate between anesthetics during SV and CV. During SV, all anesthetics induced dose-dependent decreases in arterial pressure, rate pressure product, systemic vascular resistance, left ventricular minute work index and left ventricular stroke work index. Systemic vascular resistance with isoflurane at 2 MAC was lower than that with sevoflurane. During CV, sevoflurane induced dose-dependent circulatory depression (decreases in arterial pressure, cardiac index, rate pressure product, systemic vascular resistance, left ventricular minute work index and right ventricular minute work index), similar to isoflurane. Halothane did not significantly alter systemic vascular resistance from 1 to 2 MAC.  相似文献

The present study investigated changes in nutrient digestibility, rumen fermentation, behavior and hormone (growth hormone (GH), insulin and insulin‐like growth factor‐1 (IGF‐1)) secretion among goats (three male goats) in a hot environment (H, 35 ± 1.2°C; relative humidity (RH), 80 ± 7.2%; 13 days), in a thermoneutral environment (T, 20 ± 0.6°C; RH, 80 ± 3.4%; 20 days), and in a thermoneutral environment accompanied by the same restricted diet as provided in the hot environment (TR, 20 ± 0.6°C; RH, 80 ± 3.4%; 20 days). The following results were obtained: rectal temperature and water intake were higher in the H treatment than in the T treatment or TR treatment, while hay consumption was lower. Crude protein, neutral detergent fiber and acid detergent fiber digestibility was highest in H treatment. The concentrations of acetic acid and butyric acid in the rumen was also highest in the H treatment. Time spent eating in the H treatment was also the highest, followed in order by T treatment and TR treatment. Ruminating time was lower in H treatment than in T treatment or TR treatment, and reposing time was highest in the TR treatment. When eating and ruminating, the amplitude values of the rumen contraction were lowest in the H treatment, as was the frequency of rumen contraction. Excretion of plastic particles was faster in T treatment and TR treatment than H treatment. Heat exposure was associated with world lowered concentrations of total volatile fatty acids and acetic acid in plasma. The plasma glucose concentration was highest in the T treatment, followed in order by TR treatment and H treatment. The plasma GH concentration was lowest in the H treatment, while the plasma insulin was highest in the H treatment. The IGF‐1 concentration was highest in the H treatment, followed in order by T treatment and TR treatment. In conclusion, heat exposure in goats decreased feed intake and rumen contraction, but increased digestibility. However, when goats in a thermoneutral environment received the same restricted feeding as they received in the hot environment, digestibility increased without a change in rumen contraction. Between the H treatment and TR treatment, the changes in digestibility were accomplished by coordinate changes in hormone secretion in order to maintain body homeostasis.  相似文献

We review the stock assessment strategies and management procedures for walleye pollock Theragra chalcogramma in Japan. In Japan, walleye pollock is classified into 4 stocks. Because biological data, fishing conditions, etc. are different for each stock, the stocks are assessed by different methods. Harvest strategies aiming at stock recovery are proposed for the Northern Japan Sea stock and the Nemuro Strait stock, which are currently in poor condition. For the Japanese Pacific stock and the Southern Okhotsk Sea stock, which are in good condition, harvest strategies for current fishery operations are proposed. In Japan, fisheries co-management has traditionally been carried out, and in recent years a total catch limitation system called the total allowable catch, a resource recovery plan, and a resource management plan have also been implemented. Although a plan is devised that accounts for the stock conditions of walleye pollock, it is also necessary to consider socioeconomic factors, ecosystem factors, and so on. However, we consider that the main focus of stock management for walleye pollock will still be maintaining fishing pressure at an appropriate level, which includes regulating fish size and price during the fishing season.  相似文献

It is necessary to understand the processes involved in sinking death in Pacific bluefin tuna Thunnus orientalis aquaculture in order to develop methods to prevent or minimize this problem. We observed the nighttime vertical distribution of Pacific bluefin tuna in the water column on 2–9 DAH and the morphological characteristics of the larvae, in order to clarify the processes involved in sinking death. A cuboid tank (height 300 cm) was used to measure vertical distribution. The number of larvae was counted in each of 4 regions in the observation tank: upper layer (water depth 0–100 cm), middle layer (100–200 cm), lower layer (200–300 cm), and bottom area. The distribution of larvae in these regions at 4 days after hatching was polarized to the upper layer and bottom area. Individuals with inflated swim bladders were observed in the upper layer 3 days after hatching. No larvae with inflated swim bladders were observed in the bottom area on any day after hatching. Total body length and caudal fin aspect ratio of larvae with both inflated and un-inflated swim bladders were greater in the upper layer than those of larvae in the bottom area. Larvae with un-inflated swim bladders that failed to develop sufficiently for swimming sank to the tank bottom and died. Swim bladder development and caudal fin swimming ability are strongly related to sinking death.  相似文献

The possible recovery of a white-spotted charr population in a small tributary of a river to Lake Biwa, following removal of previously stocked red-spotted masu salmon, was investigated by electrofishing. We captured 30 red-spotted masu salmon and two hybrids of these two species in 2014. Prior to the stocking of red-spotted masu salmon, the estimated number of white-spotted charr?≥?100 mm standard length (SL) in the tributary was more than 200 individuals in 2005, which had reduced to fewer than 30 individuals by 2014 when 30 red-spotted masu salmon plus two charr/masu salmon hybrids were captured. However, no red-spotted masu salmon were captured from 2015 to 2017, indicating the success of a red-spotted masu salmon removal program. The estimated number of white-spotted charr?≥?100 mm SL ranged from 25 to 91 individuals between 2015 and 2017, implying a great reduction of red-spotted masu. The estimated population size of the former increased further to 171–221 individuals in 2021, comparable to 2005. These results suggest that the white-spotted charr population declined due to stocking of red-spotted masu salmon, and recovered following removal of the latter.

Black lesions on shoots of European pear trees observed in an orchard in Yamagata Prefecture in May 2007 were suspected to be caused by a bacterial pathogen. The surface of the colonies isolated on a high sucrose medium did not have the crater morphology that is characteristic of E. amylovora bvs. 1–3, and a specific DNA fragment was amplified from the isolates in the PCR using the EprpoD primer set. The partial sequences of the 16S rRNA gene placed the isolates in the genus Erwinia. The isolates differed serologically from E. amylovora biovars and E. pyrifoliae in an Ouchterlony double-diffusion test although their bacterial properties suggested that they are closely related to E. amylovora biovars and E. pyrifoliae. In a DNA–DNA hybridization test, the relatedness between the isolates and E. amylovora biovars or E. pyrifoliae did not exceed 70% level, indicating that they are independent species. Thus, the isolates belongs to the genus Erwnia but are not E. amylovra or E. pyrifoliae. After succulent pear shoots were injected with bacterial suspensions (109, 108, 107 and 10cfu/ml) of the isolates, lesions formed with 109 and 10cfu/ml, but the disease incidence with 10cfu/ml was much lower than with E. amylovora and E. pyrifoliae. Virulence of the present isolates is thus thought to be very weak. On the basis of these results, we consider that this is a new shoot disease of European pear. In the 2007 season, all affected trees were pulled out after harvest. No symptoms have been observed in field surveys since the fruitlet season in 2007.  相似文献
