Late Cretaceous (Cenomanian) fossils discovered in the Kem Kem region of Morocco include large predatory dinosaurs that inhabited Africa as it drifted into geographic isolation. One, represented by a skull approximately 1.6 meters in length, is an advanced allosauroid referable to the African genus Carcharodontosaurus. Another, represented by a partial skeleton with slender proportions, is a new basal coelurosaur closely resembling the Egyptian genus Bahariasaurus. Comparisons with Cretaceous theropods from other continents reveal a previously unrecognized global radiation of carcharodontosaurid predators. Substantial geographic differentiation of dinosaurian faunas in response to continental drift appears to have arisen abruptly at the beginning of the Late Cretaceous. 相似文献

Columnar defects generated by heavy-ion irradiation are promising structures for pinning magnetic flux lines and enhancing critical currents in superconductors with high transition temperatures. An approach that combines chemical etching and magnetic decoration was used to highlight simultaneously the distributions of columnar defects and magnetic flux lines in Bi(2)Sr(2)CaCu(2)O(8) superconductors. Analyses of images of the columnar defects and flux-line positions provide insight into flux-line pinning by elucidating (i) the occupancy of columnar defects by flux lines, (ii) the nature of topological defects in the flux-line lattice, and (iii) the translational and orientational order in this lattice. 相似文献

Zeolites are crystalline nanoporous aluminosilicates widely used in industry. In order for zeolites to find applications as innovative materials, they need to be organized into large two- and three-dimensional (2D and 3D) arrays. We report that uniformly aligned polyurethane films can serve as templates for the synthesis of uniformly aligned 2D and possibly 3D arrays of silicalite-1 crystals, in which the orientations of the crystals are controlled by the nature of the polymers. We propose that the supramolecularly organized organic-inorganic composites that consist of the hydrolyzed organic products and the seed crystals are responsible for this phenomenon. 相似文献

Computed tomography (CT) exams were conducted to determine the distribution of abdominal fat identified based on the CT number measured in Hounsfield Units (HU) and to measure the volume of the abdominal visceral and subcutaneous fat in minipigs. The relationship between the CT-based fat volumes of several vertebral levels and the entire abdomen and anthropometric data including the sagittal abdominal diameter and waist circumference were evaluated. Moreover, the total fat volumes at the T11, T13, L3, and L5 levels were compared with the total fat volume of the entire abdomen to define the landmark of abdominal fat distribution. Using a single-detector CT, six 6-month-old male minipigs were scanned under general anesthesia. Three radiologists then assessed the HU value of visceral and subcutaneous abdominal fat by drawing the region of interest manually at the T11, T13, L1, L3, and L5 levels. The CT number and abdominal fat determined in this way by the three radiologists was found to be correlated (intra-class coefficient = 0.9). The overall HU ranges for the visceral and subcutaneous fat depots were -147.47 to -83.46 and -131.62 to -90.97, respectively. The total fat volume of the entire abdomen was highly correlated with the volume of abdominal fat at the T13 level (r = 0.97, p < 0.0001). These findings demonstrate that the volume of abdominal adipose tissue measured at the T13 level using CT is a strong and reliable predictor of total abdominal adipose volume. 相似文献

Blast is considered the most important fungal disease of rice due to its wide distribution and destructiveness under favorable conditions. Development of new effective and environmentally benign agents against the causal pathogen, Magnaporthe oryzae, is of great interest. In the course of a search for natural antifungal compounds in medicinal plants, we found that the methanol extract of Angelica gigas roots showed a potent control efficacy against rice blast caused by M. oryzae. We isolated antifungal coumarins from the extract, and they were identified as decursin and decursinol angelate. Antifungal activities of these compounds, along with kasugamycin, were tested on M. oryzae in vivo and in vitro. In an in vivo assay, the three compounds effectively suppressed the development of rice blast at concentrations more than 100 μg/mL. Coumarins showed relatively weak inhibitory effect on fungal mycelial growth when compared to kasugamycin. However, they strongly inhibited M. oryzae spore germination, which was not observed in kasugamycin treatments. This is the first report demonstrating that decursinol angelate can provide control against rice blast and that the two coumarins inhibit M. oryzae spore germination. In addition, the wettable powder formulation of the crude extract of A. gigas prohibited the development of blast symptoms on rice plants more effectively than liquid concentrate formulation of kasugamin, a commercial fungicide. Based on our study, we propose that coumarin compounds as well as the A. gigas root crude extract can be used as natural, benign fungicides for controlling rice blast. 相似文献

The effects of hydrogen temperature and agitation rate on the formation of total conjugated linoleic acids (CLA) and CLA isomers were studied during hydrogenation with a selective Ni catalyst. The CLA isomers were identified by using a 100-m cyano-capillary column gas chromatograph and a silver ion-impregnated HPLC. Reaction temperature and agitation rate greatly affected the quantities of total CLA and individual CLA isomers, and the time to reach the maximum quantity of CLA in the partially hydrogenated soybean oil. As the hydrogenation temperature increased, the maximum quantity of CLA in soybean oil increased, but the time to reach the maximum CLA content decreased. By increasing the hydrogenation temperature from 170 to 210 degrees C, the quantity of CLA obtained was about 2.6 times higher. As the agitation rate decreased, the CLA formation in soybean oil increased, and the time to reach the maximum CLA content also increased. The maximum CLA contents in soybean oil obtained during hydrogenation at 210 degrees C with agitation rates of 300, 500, and 700 rpm were 162.82, 108.62, and 66.15 mg total CLA/g oil, respectively. The present data showed that it is possible to produce high-CLA-content soybean oil without major modification of fatty acid composition by short-time (10 min) selective hydrogenation under high temperature and low agitation rate conditions. 相似文献

Fast skeletal light meromyosins (LMMs) of white croaker and walleye pollack were prepared in our expression system using Escherichia coli and determined for their polymer-forming ability and thermodynamic properties by using sodium dodecyl sulfate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), respectively. White croaker LMM formed dimer by heating at 80 degrees C and showed only a single peak at 32.1 degrees C of temperature transition in DSC. On the other hand, walleye pollack LMM hardly formed polymer and showed four peaks at 27.7, 30.5, 35.8, and 43.9 degrees C. When Cys525 of white croaker LMM was replaced by alanine, this point-mutated LMM showed no change in its DSC profile but formed no dimer upon heating, suggesting a possible role of Cys525 in dimer formation. On the other hand, walleye pollack LMM where Cys491 was substituted by alanine changed its DSC profile, showing four peaks at 27.9, 29.1, 38.4, and 43.9 degrees C. However, this point-mutated LMM formed no dimer upon heating as in the case of native LMM. These results suggest that cysteine residue(s) participates in thermal gel formation of LMM when it locates in a suitable position of the sequence. 相似文献

A symptomatic relief by hyaluronic acid (HA, MW: 3.5 x 10(6)), which is synthesized by Streptococcus spp, was investigated in experimental ovine osteoarthrosis. Bilateral osteoarthrosis (OA) of the temporo-mandibular joints (TMJs) was induced by perforating discs and by scrapping subchondral condylar surface. HA was intra-articularly injected into the left joints of 6 sheep on 7, 10, 14, 17 and 21 days after the operation and physiological saline as the control was injected into the contralateral (right) joints on the same day. Three sheep were killed at I month post-operation (MPO) and the remaining three sheep were killed at 3 MPO. Various responses such as proliferation of fibrous tissue, denudation, erosion, osteophyte formation, subcortical cyst formation and ankylosis were observed radiographically and histopathologically. The treatment of HA ameliorated the degenerative changes and lowered the osteoarthrotic score in the left joints at I MPO (9.96 vs 5.81) and 3 MPO (10.86 vs 5.29) compared to the right joints. These results indicate that a repeated intra-articular injection of HA inhibits the progression of OA in ovine TMJs by inducing the development of articular cartilage and by reducing the proliferation of fibrotic tissue. 相似文献
