Entropion,Corneal Ulcer and Corneal Haemorrhages in a One‐Humped Camel (Camelus dromedarius)

An unusual case of entropion, corneal ulcer and corneal haemorrhages in a one‐humped camel (Camelus dromedaries) is described. The most prominent clinical findings were entropion of both eyelids, severe blephrospasm, epiphora, conjunctivitis, conjunctival oedema, mucopurulent conjunctival discharges, hyperaemia, lacrimation and photophobia. Corneal ulcers and corneal haemorrhages were also observed.     

Notes on the biology of the tick Rhipicephalus bursa (Canestrini and Fanzago, 1877) in Israel

The seasonal distribution of the tick Rhipicephalus bursa in sheep has been studied during one year in two neighbouring flocks of Awassi sheep in an enzootic focus of sheep babesiosis. Rates of tick infestation on the two flocks were very different. Pre-imaginal stages were found on the sheep during the winter months of November-March while adult ticks appeared in the middle of April and persisted until the end of July. First clinical cases of babesiosis in sheep were diagnosed 2 weeks after finding the first adult ticks. The pre-imaginal stages were found mainly in the pinnas while adult ticks preferred in decreasing order the tail, body and head. Few adult ticks were found on the legs.     

Nine Cases of Idiopathic Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis in Cattle in Israel

Nine sporadic cases of apparent toxic epidermal necrolysis in nine cattle herds in Israel are presented. The clinical symptoms were characterized by full-thickness epidermal exfoliation. No underlying disease or drug administration could be detected in the affected animals, and so all cases were classified as idiopathic. Recovery was noted in all affected animals. The clinical and histological findings are discussed in the light of the pertinent literature.     

Case report: primary fibrosarcoma of the liver in a cow.

An unusual case of primary fibrosarcoma of the liver in a cow is described. The most prominent pathological findings were severe abdominal haemorrhage and neoplastic masses confined to the liver only. Histologically, spindeloid cells arranged in interlacing bundles running in various directions and numerous areas of necrosis and ossification were randomly scattered in the neoplasm.     

Mortality in calves, lambs and kids caused by severe infestation with the cat flea Ctenocephalides felis felis (Bouché, 1835) in Israel

Heavy infestation of calves, lambs and kids with the cat flea Ctenocephalides felis felis (Bouché, 1835), accompanied by severe anaemia and mortality, is described. Lambs and kids were affected more severely than calves. Flea infestation was more widespread in summer and autumn than in winter and spring. The clinical findings are discussed in the light of the pertinent literature.
