Mechanistic rhizosphere models are mathematical models that calculate the uptake of solutes (e.g. nutrients such as P or K) in a plant root and/or the concentration profiles of ions or microorganisms across the rhizosphere. They consist of partial differential equations (pde's) and their associated initial and boundary conditions, and often require numerical solutions due to non‐linearity. The suitability of the pde‐solver FlexPDE for rhizosphere modeling was evaluated by reproducing the outputs of three original rhizosphere models and comparing the results with the original model outputs. The models considered were NST 3.0 (Syring and Claassen, 1996), Kirk (1999), and Newman and Watson (1977). From visual comparison, the curves as produced by the original model and FlexPDE match very well. All calculated R2s (coefficients of determination) were equal to 1 with a rounding precision of three decimal places. Rescaling the time, using an upwind scheme in the presence of convection terms and controlling the relative error with the FlexPDE function errlimit were helpful in finding the most accurate numerical solution. These results showed that FlexPDE is a valuable tool in rhizosphere modeling.  相似文献

The effect of red mud (10 g kg–1), a by‐product of the alumina industry, zeolite (20 g kg–1), a naturally‐occurring hydrous aluminosilicate, and lime (3 g kg–1) on metal lability in soil and uptake by fescue (Festuca rubra L.) (FEST) and amaranthus (Amaranthus hybridus L.) (AMA) was investigated in four different soils from Austria. The soil collection locations were Untertiefenbach (UNT), Weyersdorf (WEY), Reisenberg (REI), and Arnoldstein (ARN). The latter was collected in the vicinity of a former Pb‐Zn smelter and was highly polluted with Pb (12300 mg kg–1), Zn (2713 mg kg–1), and Cd (19.7 mg kg–1) by long‐term deposition. The other soils were spiked with Zn (700 mg kg–1), Cu (250 mg kg–1), Ni (100 mg kg–1), V (100 mg kg–1), and Cd (7 mg kg–1) salts in 1987. The two plant species were cultivated for 15 months. Ammonium nitrate (1 M) extraction was used in a soil : solution ratio of 1:2.5 to assess the influence of the amendments on the labile metal pools. The reduction of metal extractability due to red mud was 70 % (Cd), 89 % (Zn), and 74 % (Ni) in the sandy soil (WEY). Plant uptake in this treatment was reduced by 38 to 87 % (Cd), 50 to 81 % (Zn), and 66 to 87 % (Ni) when compared to the control. Sequential extraction revealed relative enrichments of Fe‐oxide‐associated metal fractions at the expense of exchangeable metal fractions. Red mud was the only amendment that decreased lability in soil and plant uptake of Zn, Cd, and Ni consistently. Possible drawbacks of red mud application (e.g., As and Cr concentration) remain to be evaluated.  相似文献

Rhizosphere processes involved in hyperaccumulation and exclusion of metals are still largely unknown. Therefore, we conducted a rhizobag experiment on contaminated and non‐contaminated soils to investigate the chemical changes in the rhizosphere of the hyperaccumulators Thlaspi goesingense and T. caerulescens, and the metal‐excluder T. arvense. Root growth was restricted to the rhizobags separated by a nylon membrane (7 μm \x 25 μm mesh size) from surrounding bulk soil. Depletion of labile Zn in rhizosphere could not explain the amount of metals accumulated in T. caerulescens, whereas the difference in EDTA‐extractable Zn even exceeded total plant uptake. Substantially increased DOC in T. arvense rhizosphere indicates alleviation of phytotoxicity by formation of metal‐organic complexes. Hyperaccumulation and depletion of labile Zn in the rhizosphere was observed for T. goesingense grown on contaminated soil. On non‐contaminated soil, Zn was accumulated but labile Zn in rhizosphere was not changed. Nickel present in background concentrations in both soils was accumulated by T. goesingense only when grown on non‐contaminated soil. In contrast, labile Ni in the rhizosphere was increased in both soils, suggesting a general tendency of Ni mobilization by T. goesingense.  相似文献

The use of rock powders in agriculture. II. Efficiency of rock powders for soil amelioration Five rock powders with different chemical and mineralogical characteristics were investigated in order to test their suitability for agricultural soil amelioration. The highest cation exchange capacity (CEC) was determined for the powder of smectite rich volcanic ash. Carbonate rock powders showed highest values for acid neutralization capacity (ANC). Silicate rock powders (granite, basalt) showed the lowest values for both investigated parameters. After some decades, a yearly application per hectare of 1000 kg of rock powder consisting of clay minerals or carbonates could at best successfully improve extreme poor soils, e.g. sandy soils with low humus content, by raising the CEC or the ANC. Rock powders rich in silicium, e.g. of granite, are not suitable to improve soils significantly.  相似文献

Micro–suction cups made of nylon membranes and polyacrylic tubes with planar geometry of the membrane were designed for repeated sampling of rhizosphere solution at defined distances from a root monolayer. Adsorption tests revealed that the materials used (nylon membrane, polyacrylic tube) have little influence on the concentration of heavy metals in the sample solution, whereas some organic acids are partly retained by the suction cup. A sampling protocol was developed for collecting extremely small solution volumes (i.e., droplets of 28.3±2.46 μl) for subsequent measurements of trace elements using ICP‐SFMS. A homogeneity test showed that soil‐solution concentrations of Ca, K, Mg, and Ni could be reproduced independent of the suction‐cup position in a rhizobox experiment without plants. In a similar experiment, the rhizobox was planted with the Ni hyperaccumulator Thlaspi goesingense. Compared to more distant soil layers, an increase of Ni and a concurrent decrease of Ca, K, and Mg at 1 mm distance from the root plane was found. These changes can be related to plant uptake and mobilization processes. Our results show that the novel micro–suction cups are a valuable tool for elucidating rhizosphere processes.  相似文献

For the winter barley cultivar ‘Igri’, a microspore isolation and regeneration procedure is described which allows the production of such vigorous micro-spore fractions that this single-cell system can be used as a target for DNA uptake. Up to 60 % of the vigorous microspores isolated from the anther, and cultured in liquid modified MS medium, formed embryoids and/or calli. Such preparations were used for trials in DNA uptake with the plasmid pBI 221. Transformation trials were performed with polyethylene glycol as the inducing agent. With this treatment, a relative increase of fluorescence could be shown under UV light indicative of transient expression of the uidA gene.  相似文献

Receptors of the immunoglobulin-like superfamily are critically involved in virtually every aspect of immune responses. One large chromosomal area encoding such immunoregulatory receptors is the leukocyte receptor cluster. Here we review various aspects of the chicken Ig-like receptor (CHIR) family, located on microchromosome 31, an orthologous position to the mammalian leukocyte receptor cluster. The CHIR family has been massively expanded with over hundred CHIR genes that are further distinguished into activating, inhibitory and bifunctional receptors. Comparisons of various features such as amino acid motifs, genomic structure, expression and associated adaptor molecules reveal the homology of CHIR to both the killer Ig-like and the leukocyte Ig-like receptor families, with most pronounced correlation of certain CHIR to the NK cell receptor KIR2DL4. To date the CHIR ligands remain largely obscure with the exception of CHIR-AB1 that binds to chicken IgY. Detailed analyses of CHIR-AB1, its crystal structure, the interaction to IgY and functional capabilities allow us to draw conclusions regarding Fc receptor phylogeny and function.  相似文献

The concentrations of the hydrogen radicals OH and HO2 in the middle and upper troposphere were measured simultaneously with those of NO, O3, CO, H2O, CH4, non-methane hydrocarbons, and with the ultraviolet and visible radiation field. The data allow a direct examination of the processes that produce O3 in this region of the atmosphere. Comparison of the measured concentrations of OH and HO2 with calculations based on their production from water vapor, ozone, and methane demonstrate that these sources are insufficient to explain the observed radical concentrations in the upper troposphere. The photolysis of carbonyl and peroxide compounds transported to this region from the lower troposphere may provide the source of HOx required to sustain the measured abundances of these radical species. The mechanism by which NO affects the production of O3 is also illustrated by the measurements. In the upper tropospheric air masses sampled, the production rate for ozone (determined from the measured concentrations of HO2 and NO) is calculated to be about 1 part per billion by volume each day. This production rate is faster than previously thought and implies that anthropogenic activities that add NO to the upper troposphere, such as biomass burning and aviation, will lead to production of more O3 than expected.  相似文献

A previously unknown solid phase of H2O has been identified by its peculiar growth patterns, distinct pressure-temperature melting relations, and vibrational Raman spectra. Morphologies of ice crystals and their pressure-temperature melting relations were directly observed in a hydrothermal diamond-anvil cell for H2O bulk densities between 1203 and 1257 kilograms per cubic meter at temperatures between -10 degrees and 50 degreesC. Under these conditions, four different ice forms were observed to melt: two stable phases, ice V and ice VI, and two metastable phases, ice IV and the new ice phase. The Raman spectra and crystal morphology are consistent with a disordered anisotropic structure with some similarities to ice VI.  相似文献
