Luteophanol D (1), a new polyhydroxyl linear carbon-chain metabolite, has been isolated from the cultured marine dinoflagellate Amphidinium sp., which was isolated from Okinawan marine acoel flatworm Pseudaphanostoma luteocoloris. The structure of 1 was elucidated by detailed analyses of 2D NMR spectra. Luteophanol D (1) possesses two tetrahydropyran rings and twenty-three hydroxyl groups on C63-linear aliphatic chain with one exo-methylene and two methyl branches.  相似文献

Background

Adenosine 5-triphosphate (ATP) and its breakdown products ADP and adenosine can act as extracellular messengers in a range of biological processes. Extracellular adenine nucleotides are metabolized by a number of enzymes including NTPDases and 5'-nucleotidase, which are considered to be the major regulators of purinergic signaling in the blood. Previous work by our group demonstrated that ATPase and ADPase activities in rat serum exhibit a 24-h temporal pattern, with higher enzyme activity during the dark (activity) phase. It was found that stress can cause disruptions in biological circadian rhythms and in the cardiovascular system. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to examine the influence of acute stress exposure upon temporal patterns of NTPDase and 5-nucleotidase enzyme activities in rat blood serum.

Methods

Adult male Wistar rats were divided into 4 groups: ZT0, ZT6, ZT12 and ZT18. Each group was subdivided in 4 groups: control, immediately, 6 h and 24 h after one hour of restraint stress. ATP, ADP and AMP hydrolysis were assayed in the serum.

Results

All stressed groups showed significant decreases in all enzyme activities at ZT 12 and ZT 18 when compared with control.

Conclusion

Acute stress provokes a decrease in nucleotidase activities dependent on the time that this stress occurs and this effect appears to persist for at least 24 hours. Stress can change levels of nucleotides, related to increased frequency of cardiovascular events during the activity phase. Altered levels of nucleotides in serum may be involved in cardiovascular events more frequent during the activity phase in mammals, and with their etiology linked to stress.  相似文献

Fucoxanthin is a marine carotenoid found in edible brown seaweeds. We previously reported that dietary fucoxanthin attenuates the weight gain of white adipose tissue (WAT) of diabetic/obese KK- A(y) mice. In this study, to evaluate the antiobesity and antidiabetic effects of fucoxanthin and fish oil, we investigated the effect on the WAT weight, blood glucose, and insulin levels of KK- A(y) mice. Furthermore, the expression level of uncoupling protein 1 (UCP1) and adipokine mRNA in WAT were measured. After 4 weeks of feeding, 0.2% fucoxanthin in the diet markedly attenuated the gain of WAT weight in KK- A(y) mice with increasing UCP1 expression compared with the control mice. The WAT weight of the mice fed 0.1% fucoxanthin and 6.9% fish oil was also significantly lower than that of the mice fed fucoxanthin alone. In addition, 0.2% fucoxanthin markedly decreased the blood glucose and plasma insulin concentrations in KK- A(y) mice. The mice fed with the combination diet of 0.1% fucoxanthin and fish oil also showed improvements similar to that of 0.2% fucoxanthin. Leptin and tumor necrosis factor (TNFalpha) mRNA expression in WAT were significantly down-regulated by 0.2% fucoxanthin. These results suggest that dietary fucoxanthin decreases the blood glucose and plasma insulin concentration of KK- A(y) along with down-regulating TNFalpha mRNA. In addition, the combination of fucoxanthin and fish oil is more effective for attenuating the weight gain of WAT than feeding with fucoxanthin alone.  相似文献

Measurements of the chemical composition of fog water at Murododaira (altitude, 2,450 m), on the western slope of Mt. Tateyama near the coast of the Japan Sea, were performed each autumn from 2004 through 2007. Strong acidic fogs (pH?<?4) containing high concentrations of nssSO 4 2? were frequently observed in the autumn of 2005, when the air mass at Mt. Tateyama originated mainly from the polluted regions of Asia. The ratio of NO 3 ? /nssSO 4 2? in fog water was relatively high in 2004 and 2007. High concentrations of nssCa2+ derived from dust particles were detected in 2006. Background Kosa particles might have been predominant in the free troposphere and could have neutralized acidic fogs in the autumn of 2006. High concentrations of sea-salt components were also observed in October 2005. The sea-salt particles might have been transported from the Pacific Ocean by a strong typhoon, and significant Mg2+ loss was observed. Peroxides higher than 100 μM, which are seriously harmful to vegetation were sometimes detected.  相似文献

Diversity of methanogenic archaeal communities in Japanese paddy field ecosystem was evaluated by the denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis (DGGE) after PCR amplification of the 16S rRNA genes (16S rDNAs), sequencing analysis and data evaluation by principal component analysis. Data were obtained from samples collected from the plowed soil layer, rice roots, rice straws incorporated in soil, plant residues (mixture of weeds, rice litters, rice roots, and rice stubbles) in soil, and composing rice straw. The number of bands of DGGE profiles ranged from 12 to 26 with the highest numbers in rice roots and rice straws incorporated in soil. However, the diversity indices based on both the numbers and intensity of bands indicated that the community of the plowed soil layer was the most diverse, even, and stable. Sequencing of the main DGGE bands showed the presence of Methanomicrobiales, Methanosarcinales, Methanobacteriaceae, and Methanocellales. The plowed soil layer included all phylogenetic groups of the methanogenic archaea of the other studied habitats, with prevalence of the members of Methanomicrobiales and Methanocellales. The phylogenetic diversity was compared with that of paddy soils collected in Italy, China, and the Philippines and that of 12 anaerobic environments (fen, waste, coast, permafrost, natural gas field, bovine rumen, riparian soil, termite, ciliate endosymboints, lake sediment, landfill, and seep rumen). The phylogenetic diversity was more similar among paddy soils than with the other anaerobic environments. Probably, the methanogenic archaeal communities of the paddy field soils were characterized by indigenous members and some of the members of the community of the plowed soil layer colonized rice roots, rice straws, and plant residues.  相似文献

ABSTRACT:   A model is proposed that expresses the spatial and temporal migration pattern for stock of Pacific saury Cololabis saira (Brevoort), in order to investigate the effect of sea surface temperature (SST) on migration rates. Two factors are considered: (i) Saury emigrate to waters of an optimal SST zone; and (ii) saury immigrate from water zone that is extremely cold for saury. Parameters of migration and initial levels of stock are estimated with a maximum likelihood method based on catch per unit effort (CPUE) data for 1995–2001. The best model was selected using Akaike's information criteria. The results suggested that the emigration rate to southern adjacent regions is dependent on the coverage proportion of their waters under some threshold temperatures; 20°C to Doutou and Sanriku, 23°C to Joban and Izu.  相似文献

The effects of four light intensities on growth and survival of first‐feeding stage black sea bass larvae Centropristis striata were investigated in a controlled‐environment laboratory. Fertilized eggs, obtained from LHRHa‐induced spawning of captive broodstock, were stocked (72 eggs L?1) into twenty 15 L black tanks under light intensities of 100, 500, 1000 and 1500 lx, with five replicate tanks per treatment. The photoperiod was 12L:12D, the temperature was 20°C and the salinity was 35 g L?1. Larvae were fed rotifers Brachionus rotundiformis from day 2 post‐hatching (d 2ph) at 5–10 rotifers mL?1. Microalgae Nannochloropis oculata and Isochrysis sp. were added (1:1) daily to maintain a density of 300 000 cells mL?1. Hatching success and larval growth and survival from d 2ph through d 15ph were monitored. Hatching success was 28–38% under all light intensities, and notochord length at hatching ranged from 2.8 to 3.0 mm, with no significant differences among treatments. By d 15ph, growth (mg wet weight) was significantly higher in the 1000 lx (0.914) and 1500 lx treatments (0.892) than in 100 lx (0.483), and a highly significant trend (P<0.01) towards increased survival with increasing light intensities was observed, from 1.3% at 100 lx to 13.9% at 1500 lx. Higher light intensities within the range of 100–1500 lx improved growth and survival of early larval black sea bass, suggesting that even higher light intensities may improve culture performance. This is consistent with conditions in shallow, near‐shore locations where eggs and larvae are distributed in nature.  相似文献

Unprecedented large-scale algal blooms were observed during autumn 2021 around the Katsurakoi fishing port, Kushiro, eastern Hokkaido, Japan. Monitoring of shoreline water showed that chlorophyll a (Chl a) concentrations and the cell density of Karenia spp., dominated by Karenia selliformis, repeatedly increased synchronously between September and November 2021. These increases were associated with a southerly wind-driven current, which transported offshore water on the shelf towards the shoreline at the sea surface. The blooms were prolonged as a result of algal accumulation in the semi-closed fishing port. The maximum Chl a concentration and cell density exceeded 50 µg Chl a/L and 104 cells/mL, respectively. During the autumn bloom of Karenia spp., the nitrate?+?nitrite and phosphate concentrations in the water were lower than those in 2019 and 2020, and the silicate concentration was comparable. The ammonium concentration during the bloom was notably higher than before the bloom period, reaching 15 µM. Mass mortality of several fish species and echinoderms that were cultured using rearing water intake from the same shoreline occurred synchronously with the increase in Karenia spp.

We propose a simple index of brain volume (D*L index), calculated using two-dimensional photographs of the brain, captured from the dorsal and lateral views. Here, D and L represent the dorsal and lateral brain areas in the images, respectively. Two distantly related species were assessed. The D*L indices of 11 Japanese eels, Anguilla japonica and 11 yellowfin gobies, Acanthogobius flavimanus were calculated. High correlation coefficients of D*L index with brain weights were obtained from both species, suggesting the validity and reliability of the index. The relative profiles of the olfactory bulb, telencephalon, optic tectum, and cerebellum were calculated using this index. Eels had a larger olfactory bulb and telencephalon, whereas gobies had a larger optic tectum. Principal component analysis showed two separate clusters for eels and gobies. Published images of two Anguilliformes species and four Gobiidae species were used to test the D*L index. Principal component analysis showed separate clusters for Anguilliformes and Gobiidae species. The D*L index is a suitable tool for data collection because it is simple, low-cost, and has reliability and validity.

In order to estimate mean tree height using small-footprint airborne light detection and ranging (LiDAR) data, a digital terrain model (DTM), which is a continuous elevation model of the ground surface, is usually required. However, generating accurate DTMs in mountainous forests using only the LiDAR data is laborious and time consuming, because it requires human-assisted methods, especially in the forests with poor laser penetration rates. Based on our previous finding that a hypothetical continuous surface model passing through the predominant tree tops (hereafter, called the “top surface model” or TSM) might be nearly parallel to a DTM, we assumed that the vertical difference between the TSM and the ground return was the mean tree height. According to this assumption, we propose a new methodology that does not require a DTM to estimate mean tree height. This method completely, automatically, and directly estimates mean tree height (MTH E) from the LiDAR data without requiring a regression analysis using reference data. From the relationships between the MTH E and the observed mean tree height (MTH O) in different hinoki cypress forests, we demonstrate that this method effectively estimates the mean tree height with nearly 1-m accuracy.  相似文献
