Resistance to stem rust and leaf rust in five D genome species of wheat viz., 267 accessions of Aegilops tauschii Coss., 39 of Ae. cylindrica Host, 17 of Ae. ventricosa Tausch, 4 of Ae. crassa Boiss. and 8 of Ae. juvenalis (Thell.) Eig were evaluated at adult plant stage. Two hundred and thirty nine (90 %) accessions of Ae. tauschii, 30 (77 %) of Ae. cylindrica, 16 (94 %) of Ae. ventricosa, 3 (75 %) of Ae. crassa Boiss. and 5 (62.5 %) of Ae. juvenalis were resistant to stem rust pathotypes prevalent in South India at Wellington under field condition. Invariably, all the accessions of the five species were resistant to leaf rust pathotypes. Quantitative measurement of disease using area under the disease progress curve revealed the slow progress of disease in the resistant accessions compared to susceptible check (Agra Local). Since all the five species have D genome, it could be concluded that the genes present in D genome might play a vital role in leaf rust resistance, but in case of stem rust resistance wide range of differential response was noticed. Among the species evaluated, Ae. tauschii was exploited to a larger extent, followed by Ae. ventricosa and Ae. cylindrica for leaf and stem rust resistance because of the homology of D genome with hexaploid bread wheat. While, Ae. crassa and Ae. juvenalis could not be utilized so far, possibly due to partial homology which makes the transfer of traits difficult. So, these species have considerable potential as a source of rust resistance and may enhance the existing gene pool of resistance to stem and leaf rusts.  相似文献

A range of sodium caseinate samples were characterized by a multiangle laser light scattering (MALLS) system or by the use of MALLS as an on-line detector with size-exclusion chromatography (SEC). Sodium caseinate solutions, analyzed using a MALLS system alone, gave weight-average molar mass (M(w)) values in the range 1200-4700 kDa and z-average root-mean-square radius (R(g)) values ranged from approximately 50 to 120 nm. When these solutions were ultracentrifuged at 90000g for 1 h, a cloudy top layer was formed; the subnatant was carefully removed and analyzed by SEC-MALLS. The M(w) values were found to be in the range approximately 30-575 kDa, and R(g) values ranged from approximately 22 to 49 nm. During SEC, the MALLS system detected some very large-sized material that eluted close to the void volume; this material was hardly detected by the concentration detectors, i.e., ultra-violet (UV) and differential refractive index (DRI). The intensity of the light scattering (LS) signal from this very large sized material was greatly reduced in the subnatant. SEC of sodium caseinate samples revealed two main peaks with M(w) of approximately 420-750 kDa and 39-69 kDa, respectively. The R(g) values were very large for a protein molecule, and initial calculations suggested that the shape of caseinate molecules was likely to be highly elongated.  相似文献

Natural organic matter (NOM) is a term collectively used to describe the complex matrix of organic material present in natural waters. The impact of NOM on the speciation of aluminum at Buffalo Pound water treatment plant was evaluated in the present study using fulvic acid. The first stage of the study was to conduct aluminum (Al) speciation experiments (using background dissolved organic carbon levels present in the raw water) at the pilot scale water treatment plant located within the main plant changing the aluminum sulfate (alum) dose from 68 mg L-1 (yearly average dose of the main plant) to 34 mg L-1. The second stage of the study was to conduct jar tests at various alum/DOC ratios. Pilot scale speciation study showed that when the alum/DOC ratio was 5.3, most of the total aluminum in the filtered water was in the form of particulate aluminum. Such an increased particulate aluminum level did not increase the finished water turbidity. Soluble organic aluminum also increased compared to the level in raw water when the alum/DOC ratio was 5.3. Al speciation study conducted during jar testing showed that organically bound aluminum increased from 8 μg L-1 (raw water) to 15 μg L-1 in the finishedwater when the alum/DOC = 1.37. Jar test results also showed that an alum/DOC of at least 7.3 should be maintained in the main plant in order to meet the proposed operating guidelines of 100 μg L-1 of total aluminum by Health Canada given the conditions that finished water soluble aluminum levels may be in the range of 35–40 μg L-1.  相似文献

Competitive adsorption of alpha(s)-casein and beta-casein from a bulk solution mixture to the triolein-water interface has been studied. Although the binding affinity of alpha(s)-casein to the triolein-water interface was lower than that of beta-casein in single-component systems, in a 1:1 mixture of alpha(s)-casein and beta-casein in the bulk solution the ratio of interfacial concentrations of alpha(s)-casein to beta-casein at equilibrium was about 2:1, indicating that alpha(s)-casein was preferentially adsorbed to the triolein-water interface. Furthermore, the equilibrium composition of alpha(s)-casein and beta-casein in the interfacial film at various bulk concentration ratios did not follow a simple Langmuir adsorption model. This deviation from ideal behavior was mainly due to thermodynamic incompatibility of mixing of these caseins in the interfacial region. The value of the incompatibility parameter, X(12), for these caseins at the triolein-water interface was much greater than that at the air-water interface. Displacement experiments showed that while alpha(s)-casein could dynamically displace beta-casein when the latter was in an unsaturated monolayer state at the interface, it could not do so when beta-casein was in a saturated monolayer film state. It is hypothesized that, because of thermodynamic incompatibility of mixing, the alpha(s)-casein and beta-casein mixed film at the oil-water interface may undergo two-dimensional phase separation.  相似文献

A search was made for 26Mg (26Mg*) from the decay of 26Al (half-life = 0.73 million years) in Al-rich objects from unequilibrated ordinary chondrites. Two Ca-Al-rich inclusions (CAIs) and two Al-rich chondrules (not CAIs) were found that contained 26Al when they formed. Internal isochrons for the CAIs yielded an initial 26Al/27Al ratio [(26Al/27Al)0] of 5 x 10(-5), indistinguishable from most CAIs in carbonaceous chondrites. This result shows that CAIs with this level of 26Al are present throughout the classes of chondrites and strengthens the notion that 26Al was widespread in the early solar system. The two Al-rich chondrules have lower 26Mg*, corresponding to a (26Al/27Al)0 ratio of approximately 9 x 10(-6). Five other Al-rich chondrules contain no resolvable 26Mg*. If chondrules and CAIs formed from an isotopically homogeneous reservoir, then the chondrules with 26Al must have formed or been last altered approximately2 million years after CAIs formed; the 26Mg*-free chondrules formed >1 to 3 million years later still. Because 26Mg*-containing and 26Mg*-free chondrules are both found in Chainpur, which was not heated to more than approximately400°C, it follows that parent body metamorphism cannot explain the absence of 26Mg* in some of these chondrules. Rather, its absence indicates that the lifetime of the solar nebula over which CAIs and chondrules formed extended over approximately5 million years.  相似文献

Pyrrolysine is a lysine derivative encoded by the UAG codon in methylamine methyltransferase genes of Methanosarcina barkeri. Near a methyltransferase gene cluster is the pylT gene, which encodes an unusual transfer RNA (tRNA) with a CUA anticodon. The adjacent pylS gene encodes a class II aminoacyl-tRNA synthetase that charges the pylT-derived tRNA with lysine but is not closely related to known lysyl-tRNA synthetases. Homologs of pylS and pylT are found in a Gram-positive bacterium. Charging a tRNA(CUA) with lysine is a likely first step in translating UAG amber codons as pyrrolysine in certain methanogens. Our results indicate that pyrrolysine is the 22nd genetically encoded natural amino acid.  相似文献

We combine photonic and electronic band structure engineering to create a surface-emitting quantum cascade microcavity laser. A high-index contrast two-dimensional photonic crystal is used to form a micro-resonator that simultaneously provides feedback for laser action and diffracts light vertically from the surface of the semiconductor surface. A top metallic contact allows electrical current injection and provides vertical optical confinement through a bound surface plasmon wave. The miniaturization and tailorable emission properties of this design are potentially important for sensing applications, while electrical pumping can allow new studies of photonic crystal and surface plasmon structures in nonlinear and near-field optics.  相似文献

Excessive moisture (EM) stress during the summer–rainy season is one of the major production constraints for maize (Zea mays L.) in large areas of South and South-East Asia. A key question in breeding for tolerance to excessive moisture is the extent to which the performance of maize hybrids can be predicted on the basis of per se performance of inbred lines under excessive moisture. We attempted to identify the relationship between morpho-physiological traits and grain yield measured on inbred parents and their single cross progenies under EM stress. Responses of various morpho-physiological traits, except days to 50% anthesis, differ significantly under normal versus EM stress. Superiority of hybrid progenies over parental inbred lines increased under EM stress, suggesting that hybrids were comparatively more tolerant to EM stress than inbred progenies. Across moisture regimes, all morpho-physiological traits of hybrids, except lodging and root porosity under normal moisture, were found to be positively and significantly correlated with mid-parent traits. Our data suggest that per se performance of lines was a relatively more important factor in determining hybrid performance under EM stress, while under optimum soil moisture conditions mid-parent heterosis was relatively more important than per se performance of mid-parent. Phenotypic correlation between hybrid and mid-parent yields showed a strong relationship under EM stress (r = 0.66**). The relationship was statistically significant under normal moisture as well, though it was comparatively weak (r = 0.41*). Our findings suggest that performance of hybrid progenies under excessive moisture can be predicted and improved to some extent on the basis of their inbred parents that have been systematically selected and improved for EM stress.  相似文献

Leaf area estimation is an important biometrical observation one has to do for comparing plant growth in field and pot experiments. In this study, a leaf area estimation model was developed for ginger (Zingiber officinale Roscoe), using linear measurements of leaf length (L) and maximum width (W). Leaves from five ginger varieties (Varada, Rejatha, Mahima, Maran and Himachal) were used to develop the model in 2006–2007. The actual leaf area (LA) was measured with a leaf area meter (LI-3100, LI-COR, Lincoln, NE, USA) and taken as reference LA. The linear measurements were used to build linear (LA = a + b × L × W) and power models (LA = α × (L × W)β) for each variety, as the modeling among variety were not different from each other, data for all five varieties have been pooled and compared with earlier models by graphical procedures and statistical criteria such as Mean Square Error (MSE), Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) and Chi-square (χ2). The selected model was validated during 2007–2008. The validation data set was used to produce a validation model for each variety by re-estimating the model parameters to develop the estimation model and the models were compared for consistency. The predicted LA (PLA) was compared with observed LA (OLA) by graphical procedures and lack of agreement was evaluated by calculating the relative bias, estimated by the mean of differences (d) and the standard deviation (SD) of the differences. Normality test was carried out by Spearman's rank correlation coefficient (rs) and residuals were normally distributed. Finally, the proposed model for leaf area estimation of ginger is LA = −0.0146 + 0.6621 × L × W, R2 = 0.997. This model can be reliably used for estimating leaf area of ginger non-destructively. The same equation can be extrapolated to all varieties and land races of ginger as it is vegetatively propagated crop with narrow genetic variability.  相似文献

Treatment with 100 mg/kg of Clitoria ternatea aqueous root extract (CTR), for 30 days in neonatal and young adult age groups of rat, significantly increased acetylcholine (ACh) content in their hippocampi as compared to age matched controls.
