A management programme for Kwiambana Game Reserve,Sokoto state,Nigeria

This paper describes the physical features, climate, vegetation and animals of the Kwiambana Game Reserve as well as the history and the land use patterns around the Reserve. It also outlines the management problems and makes proposals to solve them. The management programme includes recommendations for game and habitat management, and general administration of the Reserve.

Response of spring barley subspecies to herbicides

The response of spring barley subspecies to the application of herbicides against dicot weeds and their tank mixtures with Puma Super 7.5 depending on the level of nitrogen nutrition has been studied. The phytotoxic effect of the graminicide on barley is confirmed and it is shown that the addition of certain preparations to tank mixtures reduces this effect.     

Heat resistance of varieties and red-leaf and green-leaf rootstocks in apple variety—rootstock combinations

The degree of heat resistance of varieties and rootstocks depending on the presence of anthocyans in tissues is studied. In 2009, injury of the variety-rootstock combination Korichnoe/PB at 40°C scored 0.5–1.5 points and Korichnoe/PRG, 2.0–2.5 points; in 2010, injury of the red-leaf rootstock Paradizka Budagovskogo scored 0.5–1.0 points and that of its green-leaf mutant PRG, 1.5 points. The high heat resistance of red-leaf rootstocks and varieties grafted on these rootstocks is shown.
