The catalytic oxidation of 2alpha,4alpha-dimethyl-8-oxabicyclo[3.2. 1]oct-6-en-3-one with osmium tetraoxide and excess hydrogen peroxide resulted in the formation of 2alpha,4alpha-dimethyl-6, 7-exo-isopropylidenedioxy-8-oxabicyclo[3.2.1]octan-3-one (2), with 91% yield. Addition of aryllithium reagents to this compound resulted in the formation of the aromatic alcohols (6a-h) with 48-76% yield. These alcohols were treated with thionyl chloride in pyridine, and the corresponding alkenes (7a-h) were obtained with 46-80% yield. The effect of compounds 6a-h and 7a-h on the root growth of Sorghum bicolor was evaluated at a concentration of 6.6 microg g(-)(1). The alcohols 6a-h caused an inhibitory effect (8-100%) on the S. bicolor radicle growth. The three most active compounds were 6e (aryl = p-methylphenyl), 6g (aryl = p-chlorophenyl), and 6h (aryl = p-fluorophenyl) and caused 100% inhibition. The effect of alkenes 7a-h was less pronounced and varied from 15% to 46% inhibition. Another experiment was carried out in a greenhouse to evaluate the effect of alcohols 6e, 6g, and 6h, at a 6.6 microg g(-)(1) dose, against Cucumis sativus, S. bicolor and the weeds Bidens pilosa, Desmodiumtortuosum, and Pennisetum setosum. All three compounds showed an inhibitory effect on the development of the aerial parts (26-73%) and roots (13-79%) of the weeds and crops.  相似文献

Toasting wood to be used in barrels for aging wine produces a great number of volatile and odiferous compounds. Three new volatile odorous compounds in toasted oak were identified. Analysis by high-performance gas chromatography of toasted oak extracts, combined with olfactory detection, enabled various chromatographic peaks with these specific aromas to be isolated. These same odors were simultaneously studied by heating glucose both with and without proline and phenylalanine. Aromatic compounds of interest were identified thanks to a combination of gas chromatography and both mass and infrared spectrometry. An analysis RMN was also used. Hydroxymaltol, 2,5-furanedicarbaldehyde, and furylhydroxymethyl ketone have been detected in extract of toasted oak wood. These molecules may be formed by direct pyrolysis of sugar or Maillard reactions. The acetylformoine was not detected in extract of toasted oak wood, whereas it was detected in heated extracts of various sugars and sugars mixtures with amino acids.  相似文献

The photolytic decomposition of the insecticide imidacloprid (1) in HPLC grade water and of imidacloprid as the formulated product Confidor insecticide in tap water was studied using HPLC methodology. The structures of several degradates have been determined in aquatic medium, and the DT(50) values of imidacloprid and Confidor have been measured. In addition, the influence of TiO(2) on the photodegradation of Confidor was studied. The photoproduct 1-(6-chloro-3-pyridinyl)methyl-2-imidazolidinone (5) has been identified as the main degradate in each of the three series of experiments by several analytical techniques. The photolytic half-lives for imidacloprid under the conditions of this study were 43 min in HPLC grade water, 126 min formulated as Confidor in tap water, and 144 min formulated as Confidor in tap water in the presence of TiO(2).  相似文献

A fast HPLC method for the determination of the oxygen heterocyclic compounds of citrus essential oils was developed. Five different oils were analyzed under identical conditions, by reversed-phase HPLC with photodiode array detector, for a direct comparison of the composition of their oxygen heterocyclic fraction. Analysis time was 7 min. The oils analyzed were lemon, bergamot, mandarin, sweet orange, and bitter orange. The method developed is good for rapid screening or fingerprinting of these essential oils; a slightly slower method is recommended for higher resolution and better quantitative results.  相似文献

The reaction between (+)-catechin and glyoxylic acid was studied in a model solution system. The major (+)-catechin carboxymethine-linked dimer was isolated and shown to proceed to new polyphenolic compounds exhibiting absorption maxima around 440 and 460 nm. Three yellow pigments were obtained by incubation of the 8-8 colorless isomer. One was the previously reported xanthylium compound NJ2 with a maximum at 440 nm. The other two, showing absorption maxima at 460 nm, were obtained separately by incubation of the colorless dimer in hydroethanolic or methanolic medium. Structural elucidation of these two new yellow pigments was achieved by means of MS and 1D and 2D NMR techniques and showed that they were, respectively, ethyl and methyl esters of NJ2. The fact that these compounds were not obtained when NJ2 was incubated in hydromethanolic or ethanolic medium showed that esterification took place before the formation of the xanthylium chromophores. The detection of the esterified colorless compounds and the corresponding xanthene intermediates confirmed the postulated mechanism. New pigments exhibiting a strong absorption at 560 nm were also observed.  相似文献

Amino acids are minor compounds in wines, but they have a profound influence on wine quality, and amino acids composition can be used to differentiate wines according to the vine variety, geographical origin, and year of production. The NMR signals of amino acids in NMR spectra are overlapped by the signals of other compounds present and especially by the signals of dominant compounds such as water, ethanol, and glycerol. In this work we used 1D (1)H and (13)C, 2D homonuclear COSY, TOCSY, and 2D heteronuclear HSQC and HMQC pulse sequences, also with an incorporated WET pulse sequence element that allows the simultaneous suppression of several frequencies. Complete (1)H and (13)C NMR assignments for 17 amino acids commonly present in wine and of gamma-aminobutyric acid at pH 3 have been achieved in wine sample of Sauvignon from the Coastal wine-growing region of Slovenia, vintage 1994.  相似文献

Okara is the residue left after soymilk or tofu production. In North America, okara is used either as animal feed, fertilizer, or landfill. The purpose of this study was to use wet okara to produce and enrich extruded cereal products and to study the effects of extrusion on the dietary fiber and isoflavone contents. Wet okara was combined with soft wheat flour to produce two different formulations (33.3 and 40% okara) and extruded using four combinations of two screw configurations and two temperature profiles. Various physicochemical properties, dietary fiber by enzymatic-gravimetric method, and isoflavone content by HPLC were analyzed. The radial expansion ratio decreased as fiber content increased. On the other hand, both bulk density and breaking strength increased as fiber content increased. Combining okara with soft wheat flour resulted in increased protein, dietary fiber, and isoflavone contents compared with soft wheat flour alone. Extrusion of the formulations resulted in decreased insoluble fiber (≤25.5%) and increased soluble fiber (≤150%) contents of extrudates. Extrusion decreased the total detectable isoflavones (≤20%) and altered the distribution of the six detected isoflavones.  相似文献

This study was undertaken to evaluate the lipidemic response of rice bran and the possible enhancement of its healthful properties by using raw or processed white or brown rice in place of corn starch. All diets contained 10% total dietary fiber, 15% fat, and 0.5% cholesterol. Weanling male golden Syrian hamsters were fed cellulose control (CC), processed corn starch (PCS), cellulose with processed brown rice (CPBR), rice bran (RB), RB with white rice (RBWR), RB with processed white rice (RBPWR), RB with brown rice (RBBR), and RB with processed brown rice (RBPBR) diets. After three weeks, the PCS diet significantly lowered total plasma cholesterol (TC) compared with the CC, CPBR, RBWR, and RBPBR diets. RB and RBBR diets significantly lowered TC and LDL‐C compared with CPBR diet. All the RB‐containing and PCS diets significantly lowered liver cholesterol and liver lipid content. Processing white rice increased TDF content 240% and insoluble dietary fiber (IDF) 360%, whereas soluble dietary fiber (SDF) decreased by 25%. Uncooked brown rice contained 7 times as much TDF as uncooked white rice. Processing brown rice decreased its TDF, IDF and SDF contents by 12, 6, and 42%, respectively. The data suggest that a possible mechanism for cholesterol‐lowering by rice bran, with or without added raw or processed rice (white or brown), is by decreasing lipid digestibility and increasing neutral sterol excretion, whereas cholesterol‐lowering by processed corn starch is mediated through other mechanisms.  相似文献

The need to prioritize species based on their perceived endangerment has led to the development of systems for categorizing and assessing their degree of vulnerability. Systems with divergent biological and geographical scopes can result in conflicting lists of high-priority species, potentially confusing conservationists and hampering the efficient allocation of resources. To assess conservation priorities for North American birds, we compare three priority-setting systems; those of the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN), NatureServe, and Partners in Flight (PIF). We found highest correspondence among the three systems in the highest and lowest categories of the respective systems with lower levels of correspondence in intermediate categories. We suggest that this is because the systems, while using different formulations of criteria, are based on the major factors known to be correlated with extinction risk. The few examples of species listed as a high conservation priority by one group but not one or both of the others appear to be the result of differences in availability or interpretation of data. Better communication and collaboration among those responsible for compiling the priority lists for each system is needed.A primary difference among the systems was the total number of species identified as conservation priorities. IUCN identified the fewest species (47) and PIF the most (157). This difference is the result of differences in geographic and taxonomic scope of each system. However, when considered as the percent of the total number of taxa evaluated by each system, all systems identified approximately 20% of species as of conservation concern. To reconcile disparate lists, we urge that conservationists use a hierarchical approach that first considers species that meet thresholds for endangerment under global systems, followed by species considered most vulnerable relative to all continental biota.  相似文献

The goal of habitat restoration is to provide environmental conditions that promote the maintenance and growth of target populations. But rarely is it considered how the allocation of resources influences the diversity of phenotypes in these populations. Here we present a framework for considering how habitat restoration can shape the development and expression of phenotypes. We call this approach phenotype management as it entails restoring the resources in a habitat to manage phenotypic diversity. Phenotype management is achieved by manipulating the spatial and temporal distribution of resources to alter the degree of competition among individuals. Differences in competition, in turn, lead to changes in phenotypic and life history expression that affect population parameters including demography and effective population size (Ne). To illustrate how phenotype management can be applied, we explore how resource distributions shape variation in phenotypes in two imperiled fishes, Pacific salmon and desert pupfish. In both examples, modulating male reproductive phenotypes changes the allocation of reproductive success among population members to subsequently affect Ne. These examples further demonstrate that whether to increase or decrease phenotypic diversity depends on the primary conservation pressures faced by the species.  相似文献
