The objective was to estimate the potential risk of N leaching into the groundwater under various types of agriculture by using lysimeter experiments on the nitrogen(N)‐cycle of various soil types. Results were obtained with 12 weighable, monolithic lysimeters with a surface area of 1 m2, a total depth of 3 m, and free drainage. Mean annual N‐leaching losses of 5 to 44 kg ha—1 and nitrate concentrations of the seepage water (leachate) between 80 and 200 mg l—1 were measured during the period of intensive agricultural use. On fallow land with a well‐established grass vegetation, some nitrate was removed by the plants. As a result, the nitrate concentrations in the leachate were reduced significantly. Ecological farming measures generally reduced N leaching losses and kept the N‐concentration in the leachate below the German threshold value for drinking water with 50 mg l—1 nitrate. However, ploughing in of clover or leguminous vegetation and the application of farmyard manure in autumn caused the nitrate concentration in the leachate to rise significantly above the mentioned threshold value.<?show $6#> 相似文献

Induced resistance to the apple scab fungus Venturia inaequalis was demonstrated in greenhouse tests with 12-day-old seedlings of the apple cultivar Golden Delicious treated with methyl 2,6-dichloro-isonicotinate or 3,5-dichlorosalicylic acid prior to inoculation with the causal fungus. Studies of the dose-response of flusilazole on induced resistant plants revealed synergistic effects between both crop protection principles. Therefore, the use of such resistance-inducing compounds in the field might allow a reduction in the number of fungicide applications, and possibly a reduction in dose, thus resulting in improved efficacy of fungicides. There was also evidence that induced resistance could prove to be a valid strategy for the treatment of pathogen populations with reduced sensitivity to a given fungicide. © 1998 SCI 相似文献

This article analyses motivations and attitudes of small-scale forest owners in the Czech Republic towards joining associations. The research is a follow-up to a field investigation performed within the National Forest Programme II for 2007–2013 in the Vyso?ina region in 2010. The present research was carried out in the Pilsen region in 2012 and the Central Bohemia region in 2015, applying the same method of investigation as in 2010—a questionnaire survey. The findings are based on the results of all three surveys and supported by the analysis of legal and forestry-related documents concerning financial subsidies for forest owners’ associations. The study has revealed reluctance of small-scale owners to join associations. Their lack of motivation is caused by insufficient funding from the government supporting the administration and management of associations. The reluctance also results from the request for associations to be legal entities, which most applicants do not meet as they are either not registered or are registered under unsuitable legal forms. Between 2011 and 2013, no contributions were paid by the government to associations, and no new small-scale forest owners’ associations were formed. To increase associations, we propose that the government should provide sufficient funding not only for the administration and management of associations but also for the process of establishing associations and initial investments. Sterile insect technique (SIT) and incompatible insect technique (IIT) are current methods for biological control of insect populations. Critical to the successful implementation of these biocontrol programs is quantifying the competitiveness of sterile/incompatible male insects for female mates relative to wildtype males. Traditionally, entomologists measure this mating competitiveness through a quantity known as Fried’s Index. We establish that Fried’s Index is mathematically equivalent to the mating competitiveness coefficient that features in many population models used in SIT/IIT programs. Using this insight, we propose a new approach for estimating Fried’s Index from mating competitiveness experiments. We show that this approach offers greater precision and accuracy than the traditional approach that is currently used in many studies. This is demonstrated using both simulation experiments and by analysing real experimental data. To facilitate uptake of the proposed method, we also provide an R package that can be used to easily analyse data from mating competitiveness experiments. 相似文献

FT-IR microspectroscopy and light microscopy were used to investigate pork muscle musculus semitendinosus samples, taken from three animals, that were subjected to brine salting at different concentrations (0.9, 3, 6, and 9% NaCl). Differences in spectral characteristics and in microstructure were observed in meat from animals differing in initial pH and varying salt concentrations. The FT-IR data displayed changes in the amide I region from 1700 to 1600 cm(-1). This spectral range was analyzed by principal component analysis (PCA) and partial least-squares regression (PLSR). These methods revealed correlations between the spectral data and the different animals, salt content, moisture content, pH value, and myofiber diameter. A shrinking share of alpha-helical components was related to an increase in salt concentration in the muscle. At the same time, a greater share in nonhydrogenated C=O groups (1668 cm(-1)) was related to an increase in salt concentration in the meat. The share of aggregated beta-strands differed with respect to the different animals but was not influenced by salt concentration. The meat at higher pHs (>6) had less aggregated beta-strands than that at lower pHs (5.6-5.7). It could be demonstrated that simultaneous with changes in microstructure, pH value, salt, and moisture content were alterations in the protein amide I region as measured by FT-IR microspectroscopy, revealing a relationship between these biophysical and chemical parameters and secondary protein structure attributes. 相似文献

Two experimental trials were performed to elucidate the role of rodents in the life cycle of Hepatozoon species using snakes as intermediate hosts. In one trial, two ball pythons, Python regius Shaw, 1802 were force fed livers of laboratory mice previously inoculated with sporocysts of Hepatozoon ayorgbor Sloboda, Kamler, Bulantová, Votypka et Modry, 2007. Transmission was successful in these experimentally infected snakes as evidenced by the appearance of intraerythrocytic gamonts, which persisted until the end of trial, 12 months after inoculation. Developmental stages of haemogregarines were not observed in histological sections from mice. In another experimental trial, a presence of haemogregarine DNA in mice inoculated with H. ayorgbor was demonstrated by PCR in the liver, lungs and spleen. 相似文献

Grapevine virus A (GVA) is associated with Kober stem grooving disease which belongs to the Rugose wood complex. The virus is frequently found in grapevine affected by leafroll but is not strictly associated with this disease. Probably the virus has a worldwide distribution – but very little information is available about the occurrence of GVA in Rhineland-Palatinate. The detection of GVA was conducted with indexing procedures using Kober 5BB as indicator and serological methods (ELISA). Indexing trials with infected material did not show any symptoms of Kober stem grooving two years after wooden grafting and five years after green grafting. The most suitable tissue to detect GVA serologically was petioles from mature leaves or cortical scrapings from dormant canes. In all experiments the tests with petioles resulted in much higher extinction values compared to the blades. About 46.9% of the 209 samples tested had an infection of GVA, 87.8% in mixed infections together with GLRaV-1 and 5.1% together with GLRaV-3. Only 7.1% of the tested plants were exclusively infected by GVA, none of the other ampelo- and closteroviruses could be detected. None of the GVA positively tested plants showed any symptoms of Rugose wood. The results indicated that the importance of a GVA infection on vines in Germany seems to be extremely low. 相似文献
