We investigate the effect of Al on K+ uptake by rice roots. Potassium-38 (38K), a positron emitting nuclide (the half-life: 7.61 min), was used to trace K+ behavior. When a rice root was treated with 10μM Al for 24 h, the uptake of 38K in the root was increased in the range of 1 to 2 cm from the root tip compared with that of the control sample. Because the root continued to grow without showing any damage of plasma membrane during the Al treatment, it was suggested that the 38K uptake was not occurred through diffusion into the cells. The uptake of 38K in both treatments, with/without Al, was decreased by VO43- (inhibitor of H+-ATPase on plasma membrane) and DNP (H+ ionophore) treatment, which suggested that the K+ uptake was performed through an active transport, such as H+:K+ transport or H+ gradient promoted by an Al treatment. 相似文献
The influence of Hg on soybean plants under different pH conditions and Hg concentrations was studied. Growth inhibition by Hg was higher in roots than the upper part of the plant, but was highly dependant on pH condition. Growth inhibition of roots was observed when Hg concentration was higher than 1 mg Hg L−1 for pH 4.0 and 5 mg Hg L−1 for pH 6.0. Using 203Hg as a radioactive tracer, the amount of Hg (1 mg Hg L−1) uptake in root was found to be about 1.5 times higher at pH 4.0 than that at pH 6.0; suggesting that Hg when highly accumulated at the lower pH induced inhibition of root growth. Decreased amounts of Hg due to evaporation during the plant growth were very low, but were higher at pH 6.0 than that at pH 4.0. There was hardly any translocation of Hg from roots to the upper parts through the stem within 24 h. 相似文献
Spatial and temporal variation in copepod community structure, abundance, distribution and biodiversity were examined in the western subarctic North Pacific (40–53°N, 144–173°E) during 2001–2013. Continuous Plankton Recorder (CPR) observational data during the summer season (June and July) were analyzed. The latitudinal distribution of warm‐water species in June shifted northward after 2011 while no apparent latitudinal shift of cold‐water and other species was observed. Species number and the Shannon–Wiener biodiversity index (H′) in June tended to increase in the northern area after 2011. The warm‐water species abundance and center latitude of warm‐water distribution were positively correlated with sea surface temperature (SST) across sampling locations, whereas no significant correlations with SST were observed for cold‐water species or other species. Warm SSTs in June after 2011 appeared to cause the northward shift of warm‐water species distribution, which in turn contributed to the higher biodiversity in the northern area. This study demonstrated the rapid response of warm‐water species to warm SST variation, whereas cold‐water and other species did not exhibit such clear responses. These findings indicate that the response of copepods to environmental changes differs among copepod species, highlighting the importance of investigating lower trophic levels to the species level to evaluate individual species’ responses to climate change. 相似文献
Interspecific hybrids of Alstroemeria ligtu L. hybrid (LH) (2n = 16) and A. pelegrina L. var. rosea (PR) (2n = 16) synthesized by cross-breeding, exhibited a low pollen fertility and failed to produce normal seeds by self-pollination. To produce amphidiploids of LH × PR the ovules of LH × PR were treated with 0.05% aqueous colchicine for 2, 4 or 8 days or the rhizomes of the mature LH × PR were treated with 0.5% aqueous colchicine for 1, 2, 4 or 7 days. A total of 6 mature plants were obtained from the ovules of LH × PR treated with colchicine. Among them 2 plants derived from the ovules treated with colchicine for 4 days were found to be amphidiploids (2n = 32). A total of 17 rhizomes treated with colchicine, sprouted. Among them, 1 and 3 plants developed from the rhizomes treated with colchicine, for 1 and 4 days, respectively, were fertile. The plants developed from seeds obtained by self-pollination were amphidiploids with a chromosome number of 2n = 32. Although each of the amphidiploids induced by colchicine and LH × PR exhibited the characteristics of the parents, the colchicine-induced amphidiploids showed larger flowers than LH × PR and grew more vigorously. Even though the amphidiploids failed to produce normal seeds by self-pollination, pollen fertility was relatively high and their progenies were produced from self-pollinated ovules by ovule culture. The amphidiploids were crossed with LH, PR, A. aurea Graham, A. paupercula Philippi and A. psittacina Lehm., resulting in the production of triploids with a chromosome number of 2n = 24. 相似文献
The effects of environmental temperature (21 vs. 28°C) during rice seed development on the starch characteristics (apparent amylose content, amylopectin chain length distribution, and gelatinization properties) of nonwaxy Taichung 65 (T65), waxy Taichung (T65wx), du2‐2 mutated low‐amylose strain Taichung (76‐3/T65), and Koshihikari were studied. Amylose contents increased with decreasing environmental temperatures. Analysis of the amylopectin chain length distribution showed that the relative amounts of long chains with degree of polymerization (DP) > 25 in all starches decreased if maturation occurred at 21°C. Gelatinization onset, peak, and conclusion temperatures and enthalpies decreased with decreasing environmental temperatures. Of all starches studied, the du2‐2 mutated low‐amylose Taichung (76‐3/T65) was most affected by maturation temperatures. These results indicate that the du2‐2 mutated low‐amylose Taichung (76‐3/T65) may be a useful strain in understanding biochemical and genetic starch biosynthesis response to slight changes in temperature. 相似文献
A canopy height‐to‐row spacing ratio (CHRSR) of 1.0 is expected to be a simple and practical onsite index for soybean growers to determine when further weed control is no longer necessary. This is decided when relative photosynthetic photon flux density (PPFD) reaches 50% under the soybean canopy. To evaluate the validity of this index, a 2‐year field experiment was conducted to compare days after sowing (DAS) to reach a relative PPFD of 50% (defined as PPFD50) and DAS to reach a CHRSR of 1.0 (defined as CHRSR1.0) in 190 accessions with different canopy architectures from a soybean core collection. A total of 104 accessions, for which final relative PPFD reached <10% in 2014, were examined for the differences between CHRSR1.0 and PPFD50. The mean and median values of the difference in 2014 were 0.02 and 2.2, respectively. Similarly, the mean and median values in 2015 were 2.8 and 2.6, respectively. Thus, CHRSR1.0 tended to be achieved slightly later than PPFD50, so a consideration was made that there would be a negligible risk of failure if growers used CHRSR1.0 to determine the termination time for weed control in the most of accessions. Although there were some accessions with a standing type of morphological characteristics or with a smaller or narrower leaf, showing negative differences between CHRSR1.0 and PPFD50 larger than 1 week, a CHRSR of 1.0 could be used to estimate PPFD50 in most of accessions without risk of failure to control weeds. 相似文献
Apple is a fruit crop of significant economic importance, and breeders world wide continue to develop novel cultivars with improved characteristics. The lengthy juvenile period and the large field space required to grow apple populations have imposed major limitations on breeding. Various molecular biological techniques have been employed to make apple breeding easier. Transgenic technology has facilitated the development of apples with resistance to fungal or bacterial diseases, improved fruit quality, or root stocks with better rooting or dwarfing ability. DNA markers for disease resistance (scab, powdery mildew, fire-blight, Alternaria blotch) and fruit skin color have also been developed, and marker-assisted selection (MAS) has been employed in breeding programs. In the last decade, genomic sequences and chromosome maps of various cultivars have become available, allowing the development of large SNP arrays, enabling efficient QTL mapping and genomic selection (GS). In recent years, new technologies for genetic improvement, such as trans-grafting, virus vectors, and genome-editing, have emerged. Feline upper respiratory tract infection due to Aspergillus spp. is
considered an emerging disease, with the number of reported cases continuing to rise. In
this study, we report the first case of feline sinonasal aspergillosis caused by
Aspergillus fischeri in Japan. The patient presented after 2 months of
progressive facial deformity around the nose and nasal discharge. The isolate from this
case was susceptible to itraconazole (ITZ), voriconazole and micafungin, but was resistant
to amphotericine B. However, the infected cat died approximately 1 month after referral,
despite treatment for 12 days ITZ administered orally at 10 mg/kg. 相似文献
An experimental ischemia (EI)-induced mouse model was used to
analyze pathological and biochemical alterations in testes. Initial
morphological changes were observed in Sertoli cells of EI testes at
the light microscopic level. Examination of the ultrastructure using
transmission electron microscopy confirmed that Sertoli cells were
partially detached from the basement membrane of the seminiferous
epithelium and that the cell membranes of adjacent Sertoli cells were
not joined. The functional integrity of the blood-testis barrier (BTB)
was assessed using the lanthanum tracer technique. Lanthanum had
penetrated into the spaces between adjacent Sertoli cells in the
adluminal compartment up to the lumen of the seminiferous epithelium
in EI testes. Proteome analysis showed that the expression of heat
shock protein (HSP) 70 was significantly upregulated in EI testes.
Western blot analysis confirmed that the expression of HSP70 increased
in a time-dependent manner after the EI procedure. HSP70
immunostaining was observed in spermatocytes and in round and
elongated spermatids in EI testes. Our results suggest that a change
in the junctions between adjacent Sertoli cells on the basal
compartment is involved in the BTB disruption in EI testes. Therefore,
male infertility caused by the BTB disruption could be associated with
heat stress induced by ischemia. 相似文献
We quantified structural features and the aboveground biomass of the deciduous conifer, Metasequoia glyptostroboides (Hu and Cheng) in six plantations in central Japan. In order to derive biomass estimates we dissected 14 M. glyptostroboides trees into three structural components (stem wood, branch wood and foliage) to develop allometric equations relating the mass of these components and of the whole tree to diameter at breast height (DBH). We found robust relationships at the branch and whole tree level that allow accurate prediction of component and whole tree biomass. Dominant tree height was similar within five older (>40 years) plantations (27–33 m) and shorter in a 20-year-old plantation (18 m). Average stem diameter varied from 12.8 cm in the youngest stand to greater than 35 cm in the oldest stand.
Metasequoia have relatively compact crowns distributed over the top 30% of the tree although the youngest stand had the deepest crown relative to tree height (up to 38%). At the individual tree level in older stands, 87% of the aboveground biomass was allocated to the stem, 9% to branch wood and 4% to foliage. We found little difference in the relative distribution of above ground biomass among the stands with the exception of lower foliage biomass in larger diameter trees. Total aboveground biomass of the older stands varied twofold, ranging from a maximum of 450 Mg ha−1 in a 42-year-old stand to a minimum of 196 Mg ha−1 in a 48-year-old stand.
