The brown marmorated stinkbug, Halyomorpha halys is a highly polyphagous invasive insect, which has more than 300 reported hosts, including important horticultural crops. It has spread to every Northern Hemisphere continent, most recently to Europe. Whilst there have been no reports of incursions into Southern Hemisphere countries, there have been many interceptions associated with trade and postal goods. We modelled the potential distribution of H. halys using CLIMEX, a process-oriented bioclimatic niche model. The model was validated with independent widespread distribution data in the USA, and more limited data from Europe. The model agreed with all credible distribution data. The few exceptions in the distribution dataset appeared to be transient observations of hitchhikers, or were found at the edge of the range, in regions with topographic relief that was not captured in the climatic datasets used to fit and project the model. There appears to be potential for further spread in North America, particularly in central and southern states of the USA. In Europe, there is substantial potential for further spread, though under historical climate the UK, Ireland, Scandinavia and the Baltic states of Estonia, Lithuania and Latvia appear not to be at risk of establishment of H. halys. In the Southern Hemisphere, regions with moist tropical, sub-tropical, Mediterranean and warm-temperate climates appear to be at substantial risk on each continent. The threats are greatest in prime horticultural production areas.  相似文献

Cylindrocladium parasiticum is an important pathogen of peanut (Arachis hypogaea) causing the disease Cylindrocladium black rot. The genetic structure of this haploid pathogen was determined for populations associated with peanut in Georgia, USA. Ten polymorphic microsatellite markers were used to determine genetic and genotypic diversity among three sub-populations representing the geographic distribution of peanut production in Georgia. Among 200 isolates collected, only 10 unique multilocus haplotypes were identified, with one multilocus haplotype occurring 176 times. Although no evidence for random mating was observed, the existence of loops in a constructed haplotype network hint at the possibility of recombination events. The absence of random mating might therefore be attributed to the homothallic nature of C. parasiticum as well as the clonality of the population, without excluding the possible occurrence of recombination. Cylindrocladium parasiticum thus appears to consist of a genetically homogeneous population throughout Georgia with mainly clonal reproduction or inbreeding contributing to the observed population genetic structure.  相似文献

A formerly unknown nucleotide pyrophosphatase/phosphodiesterase (NPP) of wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) (TaNPP) was recombinantly produced in Pichia pastoris (TaNPPr) following assembly of the sequence out of wheat ESTs using sequences of known NPPs. Simultaneously, a phosphodiesterase was purified to homogeneity from wheat germs, characterised and identified as TaNPP. TaNPP contains the highly conserved catalytic substrate and metal binding residues and displays properties [high pH optimum, glycosylation, high thermostability and inhibition by EDTA and adenosine 5′-monophosphate (AMP)] similar to those of mammalian enzymes characterised earlier. The sequence of TaNPP includes that of a putative transmembrane domain, a characteristic of most NPPs. Both recombinant and native TaNPP partially occur as oligomeric proteins on SDS PAGE. Upon addition of DTT, both migrate as monomeric proteins. Part of the native wheat protein even occurs in its truncated form, thus lacking the transmembrane region. Out of a range of tested natural substrates, TaNPP had the highest affinity towards adenine containing nucleotides. While Michaelis-Menten kinetics were valid in the low substrate concentration range, at higher concentrations, they were no longer applicable. TaNPP shows no similarity to the recently characterised rice and barley enzymes and, is hence, one of the first characterised plant NPPs resembling mammalian NPPs.  相似文献

The death of over 300 sows in 2 months on a 3000 sow farrow-to-isowean operation in Manitoba was attributed to infection with Actinobacillus equuli. This pathogen commonly infects foals, and is rarely reported in swine. Our report is the second recently published case of this pathogen in North American swine.  相似文献

Staphylococcus pseudintermedius is part of the normal canine flora but frequently causes pyoderma in canine atopic dermatitis (AD). This study aimed to determine whether particular S. pseudintermedius strains were associated with AD and/or pyoderma. Ninety‐six S. pseudintermedius isolates from the ear, nares, perineum and lesions of 21 atopic and 16 healthy dogs were lysed with proteinase K and digested with 40 U SmaI. Restriction products were separated using pulsed‐field gel electrophoresis (PFGE) with an Oxford S. aureus control and lambda‐ladder DNA concatomer markers. A dendrogram was constructed by the unweighted pair group method. All isolates showed a ≥56% similarity coefficient. Nine distinct PFGE clusters were identified, as follows: five from both atopic and healthy dogs; three from atopic dogs only; and one from healthy dogs only. Nine clusters were isolated from the nares, eight from the perineum, five from the ears and six from pyoderma lesions. There were no significant differences in the frequency of isolation from atopic or healthy skin, body sites or infected lesions for any of the clusters. Two of six healthy dogs and 18 of 20 atopic dogs with multiple isolates had closely related isolates (less than three band differences) at more than one sampling site. Isolates from pyoderma lesions were closely related to at least one mucosal isolate in 11 of 16 dogs. Staphylococcus pseudintermedius isolates appear to be heterogeneous, and colonization or infection of atopic skin was not associated with any particular strain or cluster of strains.  相似文献
