The genus Paspalum L. consists of more than 400 species. Around twenty-five informal groups of species are recognized in Paspalum and the Dilatata group is of special interest because its members are excellent potential forage grasses. Seventy-five germplasm
accessions, representing 15 taxa, were analyzed using randomly amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD). Polymorphisms were observed
with twenty-two primers in the Dilatata group and 16 of those were analyzed. Four hundred and four different RAPD fragments
were generated, resulting in an average of 25.2 bands per primer. Among the 404 markers analyzed, 48 (11.88%) were exclusive
for the P. dilatatum Poir. biotypes, 31 (7.67%) were exclusive to taxa belonging to other groups included in this study, 28 markers (6.93%) were
diagnosed for other species of the Dilatata group and 16 (3.96%), for natural hybrids. Extensive RAPD variation was found
among the species studied. Inter- and intra-taxonomic polymorphisms were detected. A dendrogram based on the RAPD data shows
some clusters corresponding to the same taxa. However, the biotypes of P. dilatatum do not form a cluster. The present work confirms that the RAPD technique can be used to determine genetic relationships between

The antioxidative activity of nonenzymatically browned bovine serum albumin (BSA) produced by reaction with ribose (RI), hydroperoxides of methyl linoleate oxidation (HP), and secondary products of methyl linoleate oxidation (SP), at different pHs (4, 7, and 10) and temperatures (25, 37, 50, 80, and 120 degrees C), was studied to compare the antioxidative effects of carbohydrate- and oxidized lipids-modified proteins. The modified proteins (RIBSA, HPBSA, and SPBSA) were tested for antioxidative activity (at 100 ppm) in soybean oil using the thiobarbituric acid-reactive substances (TBARS) assay. All of them decreased significantly (p < 0.05) the TBARS formation in the oil and exhibited different effectiveness as a function of the temperature and the pH of the medium. In addition, there was a good correlation between the antioxidative activity of the protein and the amino acid losses produced during the nonenzymatic browning. These results are in agreement with an analogous and complimentary contribution of both Maillard and oxidized lipid/protein reactions to the antioxidative activity produced in foods during processing and storage. 相似文献

Improved analytical techniques for bitter limonoids in citrus and citrus juices can expedite the evaluation of freeze-induced citrus damage for citrus growers and juice quality for citrus juice producers. Microbore normal-phase and reverse-phase chromatography coupled to a mass spectrometer operating in a positive ion atmospheric pressure chemical ionization and electrospray ionization modes were found to be rapid, selective, and sensitive methods for the analysis of the bitter limonoids limonin and nomilin in citrus juices. Analysis was performed on a chloroform extract of citrus juice to which an internal standard was added. The methods are capable of detecting citrus limonoids in citrus juice in the 60-200 picogram range and quantifying citrus juice limonoids in concentrations as low as 120 picograms. An accurate "total limonoid bitterness" in citrus juice, as represented by the combined occurrence of limonin and nomilin, is easily determined by these methods. 相似文献

Abstract A possible way to improve phosphate rock (PR) agronomic performance is through the addition of elemental sulfur (S0). We used 32P isotope dilution method to assess the P taken up by crops treated with PR. Two experiments, one with common bean and other with upland rice, were carried out, to evaluate the effect of S0 on the agronomic performance of two contrasting PR, applied in different methods. Gafsa (GPR) and Patos de Minas (PPR) were used as the high and low reactivity PR, respectively. The experiments were arranged in completely randomized design on factorial structure 2?×?2 × 2?+?2; which means 2 PR (GPR and PPR) versus 2?S0 condition (with or without-S0) versus 2 application methods (band and broadcast) plus 2 additional treatments (control and triple superphosphate). In band application the S0 increased the amount of P uptake by plants from fertilizer of GPR from 2.57 to 9.86?mg pot?1 for common bean and of 2.26 to 7.05?mg pot?1 to rice. Regardless the management adopted, less than 2% of P applied as PPR has been taken up by crops. This paper reports on the development and use of a bioeconomic model to simulate dairy enterprises in the Zona da Mata of Minas Gerais State in south-east Brasil.In view of the relatively small size of the units, each animal within the herd is accounted for on an individual basis and the main biological events and processes are treated stochastically. Within the limits of given herdranges for genetic potentials, actual rates of performance are estimated from the levels of feeding and other management factors. An energy balance approach is used to assess the contributions of pasture, cut forage and concentrates in the diet.The model has been used to help in identifying priority areas for applied research, to explore various combinations of herd potential and level of feeding, the behaviour of different herd sizes and the potential returns from specific technical innovations. 相似文献

Thirty ewes naturally infected with Sarcoptes scabiei var. ovis, were allocated into three groups of 10 animals each. Animals in groups B and C were treated on day 0 and on days 0 and +10, respectively, with moxidectin 1% injectable at a dose of 0.2mg moxidectin/kg body weight (BW). Group A remained untreated. Seven days before treatment, the geometric mean of Sarcoptes scabiei var. ovis per square centimeter of skin in groups A, B and C were not significantly different. From the day of treatment to the end of the trial, the average number of mites/cm(2) increased in untreated animals and decreased in groups B and C, but these values were higher for group C. Active lesions produced by S. scabiei var. ovis consistently increased during the trial in the untreated animals; in group B the minimum count occurred on day +56 this reduction being more evident in group C (no lesions on days +49 and +56). Also in this group, the number of cured animals was 100%, therefore, the application of two treatments with moxidectin (group C) showed higher efficacy than a single treatment (group B). Body condition score decreased in the three experimental groups along the trial. All animals were individually weighed on days -1, +28 and at the end of the trial. No adverse reactions were observed in the animals treated with 0.2mg moxidectin/kg BW. 相似文献

Gene frequencies of RBC antigens were determined in Holsteins and Colombian (criollas) cattle living at 3,000 m, and in cattle descended from fighting bulls (Vacas de lidia) living at 2,500 m. These frequencies were compared with those of Holsteins, cattle native to Florida (scrub cattle), longhorns, and native cattle from Brazil (caracu cattle) living at sea level. The criollas, Vacas de lidia, scrub cows, longhorns, and caracu are descendants of original Iberian stock introduced to the Americas. We found that despite common ancestry (scrub cattle, long-horns, criollas, and caracu), genetic differences may have been derived through years of demographic isolation. The most remarkable blood-group differences were found in the high prevalence of the B system phenogroup (heritable group of antigenic factors) BQA'G'34 in the Vacas de lidia, and of the S system phenogroup U1H' in these cattle and in caracu. Furthermore, the gene frequencies differed in the Holsteins maintained at moderately high altitude (descended from Holsteins kept at sea level), and may have been reflective of the need to adapt to moderately high altitude and chronic hypoxemic conditions. Blood group polymorphism was found in all groups of cattle, although it was reduced in the Vacas de lidia, possibly because their breeding has been carefully controlled and they appear to be highly inbred. 相似文献

Over the last few years, several cases of feline leishmaniasis (FL) with cutaneous and visceral forms have been reported around the world. Nonetheless, the real susceptibility of cats to infection with Leishmania spp. and the outcome of leishmaniasis in these animals are poorly understood. Experimental studies on feline models will contribute to the knowledge of natural FL. Thus, in order to determine the susceptibility of domestic cats (Felis catus) to experimental infection with Leishmania braziliensis, 13 stray cats were infected with 10(7) promastigotes by the intradermal route in the ear and nose simultaneously and followed up for 72 weeks. Soon after infection, the earliest indication of a lesion was a papule on the ear at 2 weeks post-infection (w.p.i.). The emergence of satellite papules around the primary lesion was observed about 4 w.p.i. Two weeks later these papules coalesced and formed a huge and irregular nodule. Thereafter, there was lesion dissemination to the external and marginal surface of the ipsilateral ear, and later to the contralateral ear. At 10 w.p.i., some nodules became ulcerated. Nose lesions presented a similar evolution. At both sites, the largest lesion sizes occurred at 10 w.p.i. and started to decrease 15 days later. Ear and nose nodules healed at 32 and 40 w.p.i., respectively. Specific L. braziliensis IgG antibody titers (optical density> or = 0.01 as positive result) were detected as early as 2 w.p.i. (0.09 +/- 0.02) in only three animals (23%), and all cats had positive titers at 20 w.p.i. (0.34 +/- 0.06). Only three animals (38%) continued to show positive serology at 72 w.p.i. (0.08 +/- 0.02). Up to that time, none of the cats had lesion recurrence. In a feline model of cutaneous leishmaniasis, it seems that there is no correlation between active lesions and positive serology. The prevalence of pseudopregnancy over 44 months was investigated in 23 Saanen goats raised in Northeast Brazil during continuous oestrous cycling (cyclic group) or after synchronization of oestrus (synchronized group). The goats were monitored by ultrasonography and their plasma progesterone profile. The overall prevalence of pseudopregnancy was 30.4% (7/23). In the cyclic group, 28.6% (4/14) of goats showed pseudopregnancy, while in the synchronized group the prevalence was 33.3% (3/9). There was no significant difference between the groups (p>0.05). The mean (+/- SD) length of pseudopregnancy, as shown by the progesterone profile, was 121.6 +/- 33.5 days, ranging from 70 to 155 days. The study defined the prevalence of pseudopregnancy in Saanen goats raised in Northeast Brazil for the first time. This finding identified a major problem for this breed, as without treatment such animals remain unproductive until the spontaneous resolution of the condition. More research seems desirable to ascertain the prevalence of this condition in other breeds in this region of Brazil. 相似文献
