Effect of Infusing Lactoferrin Hydrolysate into Bovine Mammary Glands with Subclinical Mastitis 总被引:4,自引:0,他引:4
The therapeutic effect of administering lactoferrin hydrolysate (LFH) into the mammary glands of cows with subclinical mastitis was evaluated. Seven millilitres of a preparation of LFH (7% protein) was infused into 35 quarters of 25 cows with subclinical mastitis. The numbers of bacteria in the milk from infected quarters decreased, and bacteria disappeared by the 14th day after the administration of LFH. The mean somatic cell counts (SCC) peaked one day after administration of LFH and the counts were significantly (p<0.01) decreased on days 7, 14 and 21 compared to those before the administration of LFH. The mean lactoferrin concentration in the milk peaked on days 2 or 3 and then gradually decreased to day 14, returning to the level before the administration of LFH. It appears that administration of LFH may have a therapeutic effect when infused into the quarters of cows with subclinical mastitis. 相似文献

Canine parvovirus type-2a (CPV-2a) and type-2b (CPV-2b) have recently been isolated from domestic cats. The pathogenicity of CPV-2b in domestic cats is still unclear. In this study, we performed infection tests to examine the pathogenicity of CPV-2b, FP84 strain, isolated from a domestic cat. The results demonstrated that the CPV strain FP84 is able to infect and replicate well in domestic cats. Two of the 3 cats used in the test died. They showed loss of appetite, diarrhea, leukopenia and dehydration. Since FP84 was found to be virulent to domestic cats, it is necessary to examine the efficacy of inactivated feline panleukopenia virus vaccines against CPV infection in domestic cats. 相似文献

Antibacterial activity of bovine lactoferrin hydrolysates (LFH) on microorganisms isolated from bovine mastitis, and superoxide (O(2)(-)) production of bovine neutrophils were evaluated. Antibacterial effects of LFH were measured in vitro against Staphylococcus aureus, coagulase-negative staphylococci, Streptococci, Enterococci, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, yeast-like fungi and Prototheca zopfii isolated from clinical cases of bovine mastitis. To compare susceptibilities against LFH, minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) values were determined by a micro-plate assay method. Most organisms were sensitive to LFH. Prototheca zopfii was highly sensitive to LFH; the growth of the microorganism was inhibited completely even at 1 mug/ml. Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli were resistant to LFH. The production of O(2)(-) by bovine neutrophils was used to evaluate the effect of LFH administration on functional activity. Increase in O(2)(-) production by bovine neutrophils occurred upon addition of LFH to neutrophils. These results demonstrate that LFH possesses antibacterial activity against pathogens that cause mastitis and activates neutrophil superoxide production. 相似文献

Porcine edema disease (ED) is a life-threatening toxemia caused by enteric infection with Shiga toxin 2e (Stx2e)-producing Escherichia coli (STEC) in weaned piglets. We previously reported that the stx2eB-transgenic lettuce 2BH strain shows potential for use as an oral vaccine candidate against ED. However, the 2BH strain expressed a hemagglutinin (HA)-tag together with Stx2eB and contained non-canonical N-glycosylation. Therefore, we developed two Stx2eB-lettuce strains, the 3 (G+) strain in which the HA-tag was removed from 2BH, and the 3 (G-) lettuce strain, in which the 73rd Asn was replaced with Ser to prevent non-canonical N-glycosylation of Stx2eB from the 3 (G+) strain. We examined the protective effect of these newly developed two strains compared with the previous 2BH strain against ED using a colostrum-deprived piglet STEC infection model. We found that the N-glycosylated 2BH and 3 (G+) strains relieved the pathogenic symptoms of ED in STEC-challenged piglets, whereas the non-glycosylated 3 (G-) strain did not. N-Glycosylation of the Stx2eB product in lettuce may be involved in the immune response in piglets.

A 5-month-old male Abyssinian presented with right hemiplegia. Cervical radiographs, haematology and serum biochemistry were normal. A foreign body was identified on computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Removal of the foreign body was carried out via a dorsal approach between the occipital bone and the C1 vertebral body using intra-operative CT. No complications were encountered. Thirty days after surgery, the cat was ambulatory. 相似文献

Trypanosoma brucei, the causative agent of sleeping sickness in humans, requires transferrin (TF) for growth. Therefore, T. brucei has a TF receptor that allows it to obtain iron from TF. Lactoferrin (LF), a member of the TF family protein, is an iron-binding protein that is found in most biological fluids of mammals. LF has been shown to interact with some bacteria species by specific receptor-ligand binding. We examined the ability of T. brucei to bind bovine LF (bLF) by using a fluorescence test, streptavidin-biotin (SAB) microplate analysis, and far Western blotting using a biotin-streptavidin system. We found that bLF bound to components of T. brucei, and that bLF hydrolysate disrupted the sites responsible for binding to parasite proteins. Furthermore, bLF, human LF, bovine TF, and ovotransferrin bound same proteins of T. brucei, which exhibited molecular masses of 40 and 43 kDa. The N-terminal amino acid sequence of the 40 kDa bLF binding protein was identified as glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (GAPDH). 相似文献
