The present study investigates the promoting effects of leaf extract of Withania somnifera L plant on growth, biomass, and yield of Pisum sativum L plants. The growth and biomass of pea plants increased significantly over control due to leaf extract (LE-WS) treatment. Pea plants treated with LE-WS and ascorbic acid (L-AA) showed higher number as well as total dry weight of nodules over the control. The economic yield of pea plants due to LE-WS and L-AA treatments increased by 84 and 114%, respectively over control. The economic yield was significantly correlated with number of nodules (R2 = 0.75, P <0.001). The study suggests that LE-WS may be used to promote the growth and increase the production of pea plants in areas having multiple stresses. Detailed study on the use of extracts of medicinal plants as a tool to reduce the adverse effects of single stress is further required.  相似文献

Several new substituted oxazaphosphorinyl urea derivatives of the type RR'P(O)NHC(O)NHR' were synthesized from alpha-(3-chloro-4-fluoroanilino)-o-cresol by reaction with chlorides of aryl/alkyl/cyclohexyl carbamidophosphoric acids in the presence of triethylamine at 0-50 degrees C. Their significant insecticidal and antimicrobial activity and promotion of Rhizobium bacteria growth in the soil without effect on the host tissue suggests their possible commercial application as ecofriendly pesticides and antimicrobial agents.  相似文献

In Experiment 1, a total of 100 growing pigs (Duroc × [Landrace × Yorkshire]) with an average initial body weight (BW) of 24.88 ± 1.57 kg were randomly allotted to 2 × 2 factorial arrangement with two concentrations of palm kernel expellers (PKE) in diets at 0% or 10%, and two concentrations of supplemental probiotics at 0 or 6.0 × 107 colony‐forming units/kg. There were five replicate pens per treatment with five pigs per pen. In Experiment 2, eight barrows with average initial BW of 25.78 ± 0.19 kg were allotted to a replicated 4 × 4 Latin square design with four diets and four periods per square. Four experimental diets were the same as Experiment 1. In Experiment 1, dietary probiotic supplementation improved (P < 0.05) the average daily gain (ADG), nutrient digestibility and the fecal Lactobacillus counts. Furthermore, interactive effects (P < 0.05) between PKE and probiotics were observed on ADG and growth‐to‐feed ratio. In Experiment 2, an interactive effect (P < 0.05) of PKE and probiotics was observed in apparent ileal digestibility of nitrogen and some amino acids. In conclusion, dietary probiotics did not improve PKE utilization and the use of probiotics in non‐PKE‐containing diet was more favorable than in PKE‐containing diet.  相似文献

AIM: To explore the role of endoplasmic reticulum stress (ERS) in brain injury following chronic intermittent hypoxia in growing rats and the protective effect of treatment with salubrinal. METHODS: Healthy male SD rats (3~4-week-old, 100~120 g, n=64) were randomly assigned to 8 groups (8 rats in each group):the groups of intermittent hypoxia for 2 and 4 weeks (2IH and 4IH), the groups of control (C) for 2 and 4 weeks (2C and 4C), the groups of dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO) for 2 and 4 weeks (2DMSO and 4DMSO) and the groups of salubrinal for 2 and 4 weeks (2SAL and 4SAL). The 8-arm radial maze was used to assess the working memory error (WME), reference memory error (RME) and total error (TE) of the rats. The changes of neuronal apoptosis in the hippocampus were observed by terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase dUTP nick end labeling (TUNEL) staining. The activity of superoxide dismutase (SOD), and the protein levels of endoplasmic reticulum stress marker compounds, C/EBP homologous protein (CHOP), phosphorylated eukaryotic translation initiation factor 2 alpha (p-eIF2α) and phosphorylated protein kinase R-like endoplasmic reticulum kinase (p-PERK), were analyzed. RESULTS: Chronic intermittent hypoxia (CIH) significantly increased RME, WME, TE and neuronal apoptotic index (AI) (P<0.01), and decreased the activity of SOD in the hippocampus and serum (P<0.01). The protein levels of p-PERK and CHOP progressively increased in hippocampus in IH groups (P<0.01), and p-eIF2α was downregulated (P<0.05). Treatment with salubrinal significantly decreased RME (P<0.05), WME (P<0.05), TE (P<0.01) and AI (P<0.01), and increased the activity of SOD (P<0.01). Salubrinal induced the phosphorylation of eIF2α significantly after CIH in hippocampus and downregulated the level of CHOP (P<0.01). CONCLUSION: Chronic intermittent hypoxia upregulates the protein levels of p-PERK and CHOP in the hippocampus, and decreases p-eIF2α protein and the activity of SOD. Salubrinal, a selective inhibitor of eIF-2α dephosphorylation, increases the activity of SOD and prevents CHOP protein activation throughout CIH exposure. Our findings suggest ERS-mediated cell apoptosis is one of the underlying mechanisms of cognitive dysfunction in OSAHS children. Further, a specific ERS inhibitor salubrinal should be tested for neuroprotection against CIH-induced brain injury.  相似文献

Immature fruit of cultivated species of eggplant (Solanum melongena L.) are commonly used as a summer vegetable in India. Rich morphological variation exists among the cultivated species of eggplant in different growing regions of the country. We have characterised 24 breeding lines of Solanum spp., including 20 eggplant cultivars and four wild species of eggplant, based on 13 morphological characters using Mahalonabis D2 statistics. All 24 breeding lines of Solanum spp., including the 20 eggplant cultivars and four wild species, were grouped into four clusters by agglomerative clustering. Cluster II and Cluster IV contained the most accessions (eight each), while Cluster I and Cluster III had four accessions each. The highest inter-cluster (D2) distance (158.33) was observed between Cluster I and Cluster II, followed by Cluster I and Cluster III (108.48), and Cluster II and Cluster IV (102.96), which indicated that accessions in Cluster I and Cluster II were more divergent than those in the other clusters. The highest intra-cluster distance (5.80) was observed in Cluster IV, with eight genotypes, and the lowest intra-cluster distance (2.21) was observed in Cluster II, also with eight genotypes. The intra-cluster distances in all four clusters were lower than the inter-cluster distances, which indicated that genotypes within the same cluster were closely related. Genotypes in Cluster IV had the maximum number of flowers per cluster (3.63), the highest number of fruit per cluster (3.25), and number of fruit per plant (208.63), which revealed that genotypes could be selected from Cluster IV for these characters. The first three principal components (PC1, PC2, and PC3) accounted 73.99% of the total variation among the 24 genotypes. These phenotypic data increase the feasibility of prioritising breeding lines in a crossing programme based on the uniqueness of their desirable morphological traits.  相似文献

The duration of immunity after a single dose of a cold-adapted strain of Avian pneumovirus (APV) was studied. Turkeys were vaccinated at 1 wk of age and challenged with virulent virus 3, 7, 10, and 14 wk later. Nonvaccinated groups were also challenged at the same times. No clinical signs were observed in the vaccinated birds after vaccination or after any challenge. No viral RNA was shed by the vaccinated birds after any challenge. The nonvaccinated birds shed viral RNA after all challenges. Avian pneumovirus-specific humoral antibodies were detected in the vaccinated birds until 14 wk after vaccination. The results of this preliminary study indicate that inoculation with a single dose of a cold-adapted strain of APV at 1 wk of age provides protection until 15 wk of age.  相似文献

Lipoxygenase (LOX) activity was measured in germinating pigeonpea Cajanus cajan seedlings, resistant (ICP-8863) and susceptible (ICP-2376) to wilt fungus, before and after infection with Fusarium udum. LOX activity was significantly higher in the resistant than in the susceptible cultivars of pigeonpea and was enhanced further in response to infection with Fusarium udum. This increase in LOX activity in the resistant cultivars of pigeonpea appears to be due to the induction of lipoxygenase isozymes in response to infection. Analysis of the endogenous LOX metabolites in pigeonpea seedlings revealed the predominant formation of 13-hydroperoxyoctadecadienoic acid (13-HPODE) in healthy seedlings and 13-hydroperoxyoctadecatrienoic acid (13-HPOTrE) in infected seedlings. Further studies on the effects of LOX metabolites on the growth and multiplication of Fusarium udum showed that HPOTrEs, LOX metabolites of -linolenic acid, are more anti-fungal compared to HPODEs, LOX metabolites of linoleic acid.  相似文献
