Two concepts for use in the fabrication of three-dimensional (3D) microstructures with complex topologies are described. Both routes begin with a two-dimensional (2D) pattern and transform it into a 3D microstructure. The concepts are illustrated by use of soft lithographic techniques to transfer 2D patterns to cylindrical (pseudo-3D) substrates. Subsequent steps-application of uniaxial strain, connection of patterns on intersecting surfaces-transform these patterns into free-standing, 3D, noncylindrically symmetrical microstructures. Microelectrodeposition provides an additive method that strengthens thin metal designs produced by patterning, welds nonconnected structures, and enables the high-strain deformations required in one method to be carried out successfully.  相似文献

The present experiment utilized Berkshire (n = 76), Duroc (n = 81), and high-lean commercial crossbred (n = 75) barrows and gilts with an initial BW of approximately 85.1 kg. Pigs were fed a standard commercial diet (17.6% CP, 1.02% lysine) supplemented with ractopamine hydrochloride at a level of 0 or 10 ppm for 28 d. The experiment was conducted in a randomized complete block design, with animals blocked within genetic line according to litter, gender, and weight, for a total of four blocks per genetic line for each treatment. Pigs were harvested at a commercial abattoir and chilled for 24 h at 1 to 4 degrees C. At 24 h postmortem, wetness and firmness scores and ultimate muscle pH were measured in the center of the longissimus muscle (LM) at the 10th to 11th rib interface. Visual and instrumental color and marbling score were measured at 48 h postmortem on a fresh cut LM surface. Percentage of chemically extracted intramuscular fat (IMF) was measured, and a trained sensory panel evaluated cooked LM chops for juiciness, tenderness, and chewiness. Cooking loss (%) and instrumental measurement of tenderness also were measured on cooked LM chops. Ractopamine treatment increased ADG (P < 0.01) and LM area (P < 0.05), but had no effect (P > 0.05) on LM quality, sensory attributes, or instrumental measures of palatability. Berkshire LM received higher tenderness and juiciness (P < 0.05) scores and had lower cooking losses (P < 0.05) and instrumental tenderness (P < 0.05) than LM from the Duroc and high-lean lines. Loins from barrows were firmer (P < 0.05), had lower drip loss percentages (P < 0.05), and received greater tenderness scores (P < 0.05) than the LM from gilts. Genetic line x treatment and gender x treatment interactions were detected for IMF. The LM of Berkshire pigs fed ractopamine had lower (P < 0.05) IMF than Berkshires fed the control diet, with no interaction in the other lines. Purebred barrows (Berkshire and Duroc) had greater (P < 0.001 and P < 0.05, respectively) IMF than their respective purebred gilts, with no gender difference in IMF in the high-lean line. Results from the present study indicate that feeding ractopamine does not affect most muscle quality and palatability characteristics. However, the genetic line x treatment interaction for loin IMF suggests that feeding ractopamine might reduce IMF within the loin muscle of genetic lines that have a propensity to produce greater levels of IMF.  相似文献

Flocks of broiler breeder chickens housed on a commercial farm were monitored from 13 w of age for natural infection with endemic lentogenic Newcastle disease virus (NDV). Seroconversion was first detected at 17 w. By 24 w, all 8 flocks had achieved peak log2 mean haemagglutination inhibiting antibody titres of up to 4.8. Antibody titres then declined and rose again over several months, suggesting cyclic reinfection with NDV. A lentogenic NDV indistinguishable from V4 was isolated from the cloaca of one bird at 18 weeks of age. At 54 weeks of age, 6 of 8 flocks were vaccinated en masse with live V4 NDV vaccine, 3 flocks by drinking water and 3 flocks by aerosol. All flocks were serologically monitored for a further 8 w. Drinking water vaccination induced an anamnestic response in 3 flocks, showing that flocks with pre-existing active immunity to NDV may be successfully vaccinated with V4. However, in all aerosol vaccinated flocks, the procedures failed to induce a response different to that observed in unvaccinated flocks. The serological response to vaccination was greater in sires than in dams.  相似文献

Meat chickens on commercial broiler farms were vaccinated once at 1 to 15 days of age with a live V4 Newcastle disease virus (NDV) vaccine administered by drinking water, aerosol or coarse spray. Hatchmates were housed and similarly vaccinated in laboratory isolation pens. Samples of birds were bled at weekly to fortnightly intervals and the serums tested for haemagglutination inhibiting antibody to NDV. Log2 mean titres of up to 6.26, and assumed protection levels (based on the percentage of birds with log2 titres of 4 or greater) of up to 89%, were obtained in field trials within 4 weeks of vaccination. Differences were observed between the results obtained from parallel field and laboratory trials. The presence of maternal NDV antibody reduced the response to vaccination. The results show that this V4 vaccine can produce an adequate serological response following mass administration to Australian meat chickens housed under commercial conditions.  相似文献

SUMMARY The medium frequency (7.5 MHz) ultrasound images of cattle skin, as a model for other domestic animals, are described and compared with the published information for human skin. Although some difficulties are apparent in identifying the skin surface and therefore measuring tissue thicknesses, the papillary and reticular layers of cattle skin, about 2 and 4 mm thick, respectively, can be differentiated using a water standoff with a vegetable oil coupling medium. The difference in echo intensities and patterns between these dermal components supports the concept that ultrasound tissue characterisation using higher frequencies may prove to be a useful non-invasive procedure in livestock production and veterinary science. However, a detailed protocol is required. Care is needed in the choice of ultrasound coupling medium for good resolution of cattle skin. Higher frequency ultrasound equipment would be necessary for imaging the skin of small animals. Potential applications of this new technology are discussed.  相似文献

Periodontal examinations were performed on ten 1- to 22-year-old snow leopards (6 males and 4 females), using dentistry methods for determining the plaque and gingival indices. All tooth surfaces were probed, and alveolar bone attachment loss was determined. After subgingival plaque removal, plaque specimens were examined for differential bacterial morphotypes. The small number of leopards evaluated precluded definitive statistical analysis. However, the progression from gingival health to gingivitis to periodontitis was similar to that seen in man. Therefore, the use of plaque index, gingival index, alveolar bone attachment loss, and differential bacterial morphotypes can be used to determine the dental health of snow leopards.  相似文献
