Cadmium (Cd) accumulation in the aboveground parts of grain crops, and cultivar variation in uptake are of significant concern in the food supply chain. A glasshouse experiment on an acidic yellow sand was conducted to determine the effect of applied cadmium (0, 0.83, 1.67, 2.5, 3.35 mg Cd kg?1 soil) on the grain yield of Lupinus angustifolius L. (narrow-leafed lupin; cv. Gungurru) and Lupinus luteus L. (yellow lupin) cultivars, and the concentration and uptake (content) of cadmium by stems and grain. The addition of Cd decreased the grain yield of all varieties of yellow lupin, except Teo-105. However, the grain yield of narrow-leafed lupin was not significantly (p = 0.05) reduced by the addition of Cd to the soil. The grain yield of yellow lupin varieties of P283553 and 94017-3 decreased by 50–60% by the addition of Cd compared to other varieties (Wodjil, 94DO19-1) where grain yield decreased by about 10% with Cd application. Cadmium concentration in plant stems and grain and the content of Cd in lupin plants increased markedly with increasing levels of Cd in the soil. The increase in Cd concentration in stems and grain with the addition of Cd was always higher in yellow lupin than for narrow-leafed lupin. The Cd concentration in the grain of narrow-leafed lupin was about 40% of that of yellow lupin. The concentration of Cd in the stem at maturity was always higher than the Cd concentration in the grain for both Lupinus species. Yellow lupin, except 94DO19-1 had higher concentration of Cd in grain where no Cd was applied to the soil. Thirty-eight dogs with orthopedic disorders received etodolac, an NSAID, at 10.0 to 13.3 mg/kg PO once daily for 14 to 19 days. Mean total thyroxine (T4), free thyroxine (fT4), and canine thyrotropin (cTSH) values before and after etodolac administration were compared using paired t-tests. A significant (P <.05) decrease in T4 values occurred after etodolac administration with 21% of these values falling below the reference range. A significant (P <.05) increase in cTSH following etodolac administration, but none of the values was above the reference range. No significant changes occurred in mean fT4 values; however, 10% of the values fell below the reference range. In conclusion, T4 and fT4 test results should be interpreted with caution in dogs receiving etodolac. 相似文献

A case of extramedullary plasmacytoma of the third eyelid gland in a 7-year-old American Cocker Spaniel is reported. An enlargement of the third eyelid gland, abundant mucopurulent discharge, mild hyperemia and corneal pigmentation in the OD was present. Excisional biopsy of the mass revealed the gland was infiltrated and partially destroyed by a uniform population of neoplastic plasma cells. The neoplastic cells were positive for CD138, Ki-67 and λ light chain. CD20, CD3, κ light chain and cytokeratin were negative. Twelve months following surgery, no recurrence was observed. To the authors' knowledge, this is the first extramedullary plasmacytoma of the third eyelid gland reported in dogs. 相似文献

The histamine 4 (H4) receptor was first cloned and characterized in 2000 using the human H3 receptor DNA sequence. The H4 receptor has been shown to participate in various aspects of inflammation, such as chemotaxis, upregulation of adhesion molecule expression and modulation of cytokine secretion. The primary goal of this study was to determine whether H4 receptor mRNA is expressed in normal canine skin by performing an RT‐PCR. An additional goal was to determine the expression of this receptor in the colon, liver, spleen and kidney. Tissues were collected from five healthy, young‐adult pit bull dogs. Samples were immediately placed in RNAlater® solution and stored at ?20°C until processed. The amplified products in all skin samples in addition to the colon, liver, spleen and kidney (variable expression) had the expected size of 400–500 bp. The sequenced amplicons matched the National Center for Biotechnology Information published sequence for the canine H4 receptor. The study results showed that canine normal skin expresses the H4 receptor mRNA. Further studies using immunohistochemistry should be conducted to demonstrate the expression of the H4 receptor at the protein level and to localize the expression of this receptor in the skin. 相似文献

The oil and protein concentration response of canola (Brassica napus L.) to application of nitrogen (N), applied as urea (46%), was measured in 210 field plots done in 1994 and 1995 in south‐western Australia (WA). The canola was grown on a range of soil types deficient in N for maximum seed production. The sites were sown in late May to early June. The concentration of oil in the canola seed decreased concomitantly with an increase in protein. In all experiments, in both years, there was no relationship between the seed yield and the resultant oil or protein concentration. Fungicide sprays on soybean in Brazil have contributed to the selection of less sensitive isolates of Corynespora cassiicola. We collected 59 isolates of C. cassiicola from three Brazilian states and two isolates from Paraguay. We investigated their EC50 to quinone outside inhibitors (QoI) and methyl benzimidazole carbamate (MBC), any cross-resistance to compounds within QoI and MBC groups, and characterized the polymorphisms in their cytb and β-tubulin genes. Local associations of polymorphisms identified in each gene were statistically correlated with assays results. In total, 79% and 74% of the isolates were classified as resistant to QoI and MBC fungicides, respectively. There was positive cross-resistance to active ingredients within QoI and MBC groups. For QoI, all isolates presented heteroplasmy in G143A of cytb gene; the mutations F129L and G137R were not found. For MBC, 63% of isolates possessed E198A and 21% possessed F200Y mutations, associated with reduced control by MBC fungicides. Heteroplasmy was identified in two and one isolates from Brazil with E198A and F200Y mutations, respectively. The resistance factor for isolates with E198A (10.9) was statistically similar to the isolate with F200Y (8.8) mutation. Genic association analysis of the in vitro assays using discriminatory doses proved them to be accurate. Reduced sensitivity of C. cassiicola to QoI and MBC was also identified in isolates from Paraguay and resistance to QoI and MBC was widely present in C. cassiicola isolates from the main soybean-producing states in Brazil. SummaryThe in-vitro multiplication rates of fourteen black currant (Ribes nigrum) cultivars from a range of geographical origins were compared. Shoot tips and axillary buds were cultured for 21 days in a medium supplemented with 2.2 mg l?1 6-benzylaminopurine. The highest shoot multiplication rate achieved was by cv. Ben Lomond, where the mean rate was 3.53 shoots from a single initial expiant. Mean rates between 1.50 and 3.33 were obtained from other cultivars. Public plant breeders, in seeking the most efficient means of achieving their objectives, face decisions on the appropriate breeding strategy and program structure to use. This paper reports an analysis comparing the changes in costs and benefits from the introduction of recent technology enabling testing for flour and dough properties to be carried out on small samples in the early-generations of a wheat breeding program in Australia. The average costs of a suite of early-generation tests are higher than the equivalent (unreplicated) yield testing. The analysis presented confirms that the introduction of early-generation quality testing leads to a faster rate of expected progress in quality, but a slower rate of progress in yield. The estimated market value of an increase in yield is greater than that for quality, based on current market information. Thus, the result of incorporating early-generation quality testing is higher costs and lower expected returns, so that there is a loss of community welfare from using early-generation quality testing if the resultant cultivar is released from each program. However, the probability of the higher-quality cultivar being released for commercial cultivation is greater, so that recognition of the probability of release means that there may be net gains from the use of early-generation quality testing. 相似文献

Isolate 840905 of Cladosporium cucumerinum, when grown on agar or in liqiud medium, was sensitive to triadimenol, HWG 1608 (tebuconazole), fenpropimorph and pimaricin but relatively resistant to terbinafine. Conversely, isolate 49628 was sensitive to terbinafine but relatively resistant to the other fungicides. Changes in sterol composition following treatment with the fungicides reflected the known modes of action of each fungicide. When individual enantiomers of triadimenol were tested against isolate 840905 the order of activity in reducing mycelial growth was 1 S, 2R > 1R, 2R > 1R, 2S ≈? 1S, 2S, and this was paralleled by the depletion of ergosterol and the appearance of 14α-methyl sterols. Isolate 49628 had a greater saturated:unsaturated fatty acid ratio than did isolate 840905 but no major changes in fatty acid composition of either isolate were induced by fungicide treatment. There appears to be no obvious explanation for the differences in fungicide sensitivity of the isolates in terms of their lipid compositions. 相似文献
