Gluten‐free breadmaking quality of 10 sorghum flours was compared using (relative basis) decorticated sorghum flour (70), corn starch (30), water (105), salt (1.75), sugar (1), and dried yeast (2). Batter consistency was standardized by varying water levels to achieve the same force during extrusion. Crumb properties were evaluated by digital image analysis and texture profile analysis (TPA). Significant differences (P < 0.001) in crumb grain were found among the hybrids with mean cell area ranging from 1.3 to 3.3 mm2 and total number of cells ranging from 13.5 to 27.8/cm2. TPA hardness values of the crumb also varied significantly (P < 0.001). Based on significant correlations (P < 0.01), starch damage, influenced by kernel hardness, was identified as a key element for these differences. Breads differed little in volume, height, bake loss, and water activity. Investigation of added ingredients on bread quality was conducted using response surface methodology (RSM) with two sorghum hybrids of opposite quality. Addition of xanthan gum (0.3–1.2% flour weight basis [fwb]) and skim milk powder (1.2–4.8% fwb) and varying water levels (100–115% fwb) were tested using a central composite design. Increasing water levels increased loaf specific volume, while increasing xanthan gum levels decreased the volume. As skim milk powder levels increased, loaf height decreased. Quality differences between the hybrids were maintained throughout the RSM.  相似文献

Electrically conducting textile fibers were produced by wet-spinning under various volume fractions using thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) as a polymer and carbon black (CB), Ag-powder, multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs), which are widely used as electrically conducting nanofillers. After applying the fiber to the heat drawing process at different draw ratios, the filler volume fraction, linear density, breaking to strength, and electrical conductivity according to each draw ratio and volume fraction. In addition, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images were taken. The breaking to strength of the TPU fiber containing the nanofillers increased with increasing draw ratio. At a draw ratio of 2.5, the breaking to strength of the TPU fiber increased by 105 % for neat-TPU, 88 % for CB, 86 % for Ag-powder, and 127 % for MWCNT compared to the undrawn fiber. The breaking to strength of the TPU fiber containing CB decreased gradually with increasing volume fraction, and in case of Ag-powder, it decreased sharply owing to its specific gravity. The electrical conductivity of the TPU fiber containing CB and Ag-powder decreased with increasing draw ratio, but the electrical conductivity of the TPU fiber containing MWCNT increased rapidly after the addition of 1.34 vol. % or over. The moment when the aggregation of MWCNT occurred and its breaking to strength started to decrease was determined to be the percolation threshold of the electrical conductivity. The heat drawing process of the fiber-form material containing the anisotropic electrical conductivity nanofillers make the percolation threshold of the electrical conductivity and the maximum breaking to strength appear at a lower volume fraction. This is effective in the development of a breaking to strength and electrical conductivity.  相似文献

The giant freshwater prawn Macrobrachium rosenbergii larvae have apposition eyes and are positively phototactic, whereas the postlarvae (PL) have superposition eyes and are negatively phototactic. M. rosenbergii has colour vision as early as larval stage. We discovered that M. rosenbergii alters background colour preference after metamorphosis from larvae to PL in association with nature of phototaxis. The test circular glass aquaria covered with a pair of two‐colour papers contained with a group of 100 larvae or 20 Pl, and the number of individuals in each colour background was recorded five times for each colour pair. The background colours tested were light blue, green, yellow, red, white and black. The numbers of larvae or PL in each colour background of different pairs were analysed by the Thurstone's law of comparative judgment. In the larvae, significant bias towards yellow was evident. In the PL, of the four pairings of black with other colours, all biased to black. The mean z‐scores were highest for yellow in the larvae, and for black in the PL. To determine the possible background brightness preference of the larvae and PL, six different colour backgrounds were presented in pairs. The larvae significantly preferred light blue over dark blue, white over yellow and white over black. The PL exhibited reversed preference. The relationship between z‐scores and light reflectance levels of five colour papers was significantly positive in the larvae and negative in the PL. The observed background colour preference was probably due to relative brightness rather than chromaticity difference.  相似文献

The effects of passive integrated transponder (PIT) tagging on the growth and survival of olive flounder, Paralichthys olivaceus (initial average mass ± SD: 502 g ± 14.3), were examined for 8 mo. Tag readability in relation to implant position (eyed‐side muscle, blind‐side muscle, and peritoneal cavity) was also documented. The overall weight gain of fish tagged in the eyed‐side muscle (444 g) was significantly less than control and tagged fish in the blind‐side muscle and peritoneal cavity, which showed 470–488 g of weight gain (KW, P < 0.001, N= 78, df = 3). Specific growth rates (%/d) did not differ significantly (P > 0.05) among control, blind‐side muscle, and peritoneal cavity groups. No significant (P > 0.05) difference in survival rate was found between treatment and control. The readability of PIT tags in all implanted positions was 100%. The average time spent tagging at each position was less than 30 sec. These results show that PIT tagging of olive flounder weighing approximately 500 g in the blind‐side muscle and peritoneal cavity is feasible and reliable with fewer negative effects on growth than observed on the eyed‐side muscle site trial.  相似文献

To investigate the extent of genetic differentiation among wild populations of the Pacific cod Gadus macrocephalus, we have examined genetic polymorphism at five locations within Korean waters [Boryeong in the West Sea (WC-BR); Jinhae Bay in the South Sea (SC-JH); Jumunjin (EC-JM), Jukbyeon (EC-JB), and Bangeojin (EC-BJ) off the eastern coast of Korea] using mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) control region and microsatellite DNA (msDNA) markers. Nucleotide sequence analysis of 584 bp in the variable portion of the 5′ end of the mtDNA control region revealed 27 variable nucleotide sites among 184 individuals, which defined eight, three, and 11 haplotypes in the western, southern, and eastern coast populations, respectively. The mtDNA analysis revealed a low variability but significant local differentiation among populations from these three areas within Korean waters. msDNA analysis also revealed moderate polymorphism in the wild populations, with a mean of 13.8–22.6 alleles per locus for the five msDNA markers and observed (and expected) heterozygosities of 0.755 (0.825) for the WC-BR, 0.793 (0.810) for the SC-JH, 0.920 (0.905) for the EC-BJ, 0.783 (0.865) for the EC-JB, and 0.804 (0.812) for the EC-JM populations. Analysis of msDNA loci indicated that Pacific cod sampled at the WC-BR, SC-JH, and EC-JB sites belong to genetically distinct populations. However, no significant difference was found between the Pacific cod population from SC-JH and that from EC-BJ. Consequently, three genetically distinct populations, namely, WC-BR, SC-JH and EC-BJ, and EC-JB, were identified using msDNA analysis. These results indicate that genetically distinct populations of Pacific cod are present in Korean coastal waters where spawning aggregations occur.  相似文献

The addition of artificial shelters of various materials has been used in Macrobrachium rosenbergii tanks and ponds as a means of increasing productivity. The present study investigated the shelter colour preference of M. rosenbergii postlarvae (age 15–18 days after metamorphosis) in the laboratory. Shelter occupancy tests were performed on four groups of 200 postlarvae in four 57-l aquaria, into which were placed shelters made of rigid coloured netting sewn into four-layered cubes open on two sides. The shelters were presented in six colour pairs: black vs dark green, black vs light green, black vs blue, dark green vs light green, dark green vs blue, and light green vs blue. Colour preference was tested six times for each colour pair. The data obtained were analyzed using Thurstone’s law of comparative judgment. The mean z-score was significantly highest (i.e., highest preference) for the black shelter. Vision was involved in the detection of and approach to the shelter. When released in aquaria, intact-eyed individual postlarvae directly approached the shelter straight away, whereas blind postlarvae (paint over the eyes) swam around randomly and occupied the shelter only after accidental contact much later. Postlarvae in open water out of the shelter exhibited frequent aggressive contact, while those in the shelter were quiescent. The use of black shelters in rearing tanks is thus recommended for reducing stress and aggression among M. rosenbergii postlarvae in the hatchery.  相似文献

The freshwater African catfish Clarias gariepinus is carnivorous and cannibalistic even during the larval and juvenile stages and this behavior causes economic losses in aquaculture. This study examined for the first time the effect of salinity on cannibalism, survival, and growth of African catfish larvae in the hatchery. Larvae (4 days old, median 7.8 mm TL, 2.8 mg BW) of the African catfish were reared for 21 days at nominal salinity 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7 ppt. After 21 days, they grew to 10–39 mm (median 22 mm) and 10–490 mg (median 90 mg), with no significant difference by salinity treatments. Survival ratios were similarly low (24–31%) at 0, 1, 3, and 7 ppt and significantly higher (49–55%) at 2, 4, 5, and 6 ppt. Cannibalism was significantly lower, 15–30% at 4–6 ppt, than the 40–50% at 0–3 and 7 ppt. Size variation was lower at 4–6 ppt and higher at 0–3 and 7 ppt. We recommend hatchery rearing of African catfish at the optimum low salinity of 4–6 ppt rather than in full fresh water at least up to 21 days. This rearing method fosters larval welfare and improves hatchery production.  相似文献

Poly(1-hexyne) was prepared by the polymerization of 1-hexyne by using transition metal catalyst. The instrumental analysis data on the polymer structure revealed that the poly(1-hexyne) have the conjugated polyene backbone structure with n-butyl substituents. Poly(1-hexyne) showed UV-visible absorption band at 276 nm and PL spectrum at 415 nm, indicating relatively blue-shifted PL maximum value. From the relationship plot of the oxidation current density (log i p,a) as a function of the scan rate (log v), it was found that the oxidation current of poly(1-hexyne) versus the scan rate is approximately linear relationship in the range of 30∼150 mV/sec and the exponent of scan rate, x value is found to be 0.424. It is explained by that the kinetics of the redox process are close to the diffusion-control process. The band gap energy of poly(1-hexyne) was estimated to be 2.98 eV and HOMO and LUMO level values of poly(1-hexyne) were 5.35 and 2.37 eV, respectively.  相似文献
