Blood total antioxidant capacity (TAC) has become a key bio‐marker for animal health. Forest‐grazing cattle are known to forage various native plants that have high TAC. This study evaluated differences of plasma TAC between forest‐grazing (FG) and pasture‐grazing cattle (PG). Experiment 1 monitored the plasma TAC levels of 32 Japanese Black cattle. The level in PG did not change throughout the grazing period. However, that in FG, which increased from summer, was significantly higher than that in PG through fall (P < 0.05). In experiment 2, we used nine Japanese Black heifers and investigated their blood antioxidant parameters and the TAC in plants that the cattle consumed in late June and September. The plasma TAC levels in FG were significantly higher than those in PG in both periods (P < 0.05). Plasma levels of lipid peroxidation in FG tended to be lower than that in PG (P = 0.098). Furthermore, the TAC levels in various species of shrubs and trees consumed by FG were higher than those in pasture grasses. Results of this study show that plasma TAC of grazing Japanese Black cattle in forestland increase from summer through fall. 相似文献

In this study, the quinolone resistance-determining region (QRDR) in gyrA and gyrB of in vitro fluoroquinolone-resistant Rhodococcus equi mutants was sequenced. These mutants were selected from four R. equi strains on blood agar plates containing ciprofloxacin or enrofloxacin. Each mutant became 8- to 64 or greater-fold resistant to fluoroquinolones compared with their parent strains. From the results of sequence analysis of QRDR in gyrA and gyrB, a nucleotide mutation of codon GAC for GGC in gyrA was detected in all mutants, but no mutation was observed in gyrB. This mutation leads to amino acid substitution of Asp for Gly in putative GyrA in R. equi. The position of this substitution corresponds to position 87 of GyrA in Escherichia coli. Our results suggest that the mutation of QRDR in gyrA, which was observed in in vitro fluoroquinolone-resistant R. equi mutants in this study, is closely associated with fluoroquinolone resistance. 相似文献

The objective of this study was to examine the health and meat production of cloned sows
and their progenies in order to demonstrate the application of somatic cell cloning to the
pig industry. This study compared the growth, reproductive performance, carcass
characteristics and meat quality of Landrace cloned sows, F1 progenies and F2 progenies.
We measured their body weight, growth rate and feed conversion and performed a
pathological analysis of their anatomy to detect abnormalities. Three of the five cloned
pigs were used for a growth test. Cloned pigs grew normally and had characteristics
similar to those of the control purebred Landrace pigs. Two cloned gilts were bred with a
Landrace boar and used for a progeny test. F1 progenies had characteristics similar to
those of the controls. Two of the F1 progeny gilts were bred with a Duroc or Large White
boar and used for the progeny test. F2 progenies grew normally. There were no biological
differences in growth, carcass characteristics and amino acid composition among cloned
sows, F1 progenies, F2 progenies and conventional pigs. The cloned sows and F1 progenies
showed normal reproductive performance. No specific abnormalities were observed by
pathological analysis, with the exception of periarteritis in the F1 progenies. All pigs
had a normal karyotype. These results demonstrate that cloned female pigs and their
progenies have similar growth, reproductive performance and carcass quality
characteristics and that somatic cell cloning could be a useful technique for conserving

In order to evaluate the physiological roles of the testicular endothelin (Edn) signaling via Edn receptor subtype-A (Ednra) in mammals, the localization of Ednra was investigated by in situ hybridization and immunohistochemistry in the testis of rats, dogs, and monkeys. For in situ hybridization, a rat Ednra RNA probe which is highly homologous to the subcloned canine and monkey Ednra (88.7% and 87.9% identical, respectively) was used. Both Ednra mRNA and protein were detected in interstitial cells and cells in the basal compartment of the seminiferous tubules, mainly Sertoli cells, as well as spermatogonia and some early spermatocytes, but not spermatids. The localization pattern of Ednra was exhibited in a same manner among species, indicating that the physiological role of Edn signaling throughout Ednra was maintained in the mammalian testis. 相似文献

To facilitate the control of progressive atrophic rhinitis (PAR) of swine caused by toxigenic Pasteurella multocida, an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and a serum neutralization test (NT) have recently been developed to detect antibodies against the P. multocida dermonecrotic toxin (PmDNT). However, the NT is a cumbersome and time-consuming technique. To overcome these drawbacks, we developed an indirect ELISA, using recombinant PmDNT expressed in Escherichia coli, for the detection of antibodies to PmDNT in serum samples from pigs. The practical usefulness of this ELISA was compared with the NT using serum samples obtained from experimentally infected and naturally infected pigs. In the pigs experimentally inoculated with vaccine including PmDNT toxoid, the ELISA and neutralization antibodies were detected at almost the same time, and a good correlation was demonstrated between both tests (P<0.01, R(2)=0.807). Therefore, the ELISA can be used to evaluate the immune reaction of pigs after vaccination with P. multocida toxoid. In a survey conducted on a field herd with a history of clinical AR, the seropositivity by ELISA in pigs of age 4.5-6 months was increased even though the NT was negative, and the correlation was low between the results obtained with the two tests (P<0.01, R(2)=0.38). Therefore, the results indicated that this ELISA might be a useful alternative to the NT currently used to detect the antibody to PmDNT after vaccination or infection with P. multocida. 相似文献

To obtain basic knowledge about selecting horses for therapeutic riding, the influence of
equine conformation on rider oscillation and relationships between these factors and the
evaluation on horses as the therapeutic riding were studied. Thirty-five riding horses
were used. Equine conformation was estimated by 24 indices. Rider oscillation was measured
by an accelerometer fixed at the rider’s waist. The spatial position of the oscillation
was estimated by a double integration of the acceleration. Horses were evaluated for
therapeutic riding by a Riding for the Disabled Association instructor as a rider.
Evaluations were on a scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being the highest score for 27 items. Horses
were classified into 4 groups: the short and narrow (SN), short and wide (SW), tall and
narrow (TN), and tall and wide (TW). The frequencies of rider oscillation both at walk and
trot were higher (P<0.01), and the vertical (P<0.01) and longitudinal (P<0.05)
amplitudes at trot were smaller, on short horses than on tall horses. The vertical
amplitude at walk was smaller (P<0.05) and the lateral amplitude at trot was larger
(P<0.01) on wide horses than on narrow horses. Short horses could be used for the rider
who requires side walkers. Wide horses could be used for relieving muscular tension and
for the rider who could not maintain good balance on the horse. Short and wide horses

The correlation between the serum hydroxyproline concentration and serum activity levels of TRAP and BALP was examined in 41 cows. The correlated coefficient (r) was 0.6391 for TRAP and 0.3147 for BALP, respectively. Judging from the significant correlation to the serum hydroxyproline concentration, serum TRAP activity is an index for bone metabolism in cows. Serum TRAP activity was therefore measured in 205 healthy cows (2-9 years old) in order to observe the changes in bone resorption with aging and milk production. TRAP levels differed slightly between group A (< or =4 yrs) and B (5 yrs< or =) at the same stage of lactation. The present study was conducted to clarify the difference in the color of the cytoplasm in immature follicular oocytes from prepubertal and adult minke whales. The four lipid contents (triglyceride, total cholesterol, phospholipids and non-esterified fatty acids) in vitrified immature oocytes from prepubertal and adult minke whales, and also in fresh and vitrified immature porcine oocytes, were measured. The lipid contents in vitrified-warmed minke whale oocytes were similarly high compared with those in vitrified-warmed porcine oocytes. In particular, the total cholesterol and phospholipid contents in the vitrified immature oocytes from prepubertal and adult minke whales were significantly (P<0.05) higher than those from prepubertal pigs. Furthermore, the distribution of lipid droplets in fresh and vitrified immature oocytes was observed in transmission electron microscopy. Lipid droplets in the prepubertal minke whale oocytes were distributed throughout the cytoplasm. In contrast, adult minke whales had larger lipid droplets which were distributed mainly in the central portion of the cytoplasm. The lipid droplets of immature oocytes from prepubertal pigs were larger than those in minke whale oocytes. These results indicated that the difference in the distribution of the cytoplasmic lipid droplets may result in the difference in the color tone of both prepubertal and adult whale oocyte cytoplasm. 相似文献
