Connections of the nurse shark's telencephalon

The extrinsic connections of the telencephalon of the nurse shark are very largely crossed and in this respect differ from those identified in all other vertebrate species so far examined. Studies with Nauta and Fink-Heimer methods have revealed telencephalic projections to the contralateral thalamus and optic tectum as well as to ipsilateral brainstem and rostral spinal cord.     

Pioneer 11 infrared radiometer experiment: the global heat balance of jupiter

Data obtained by the infrared radiometers on the Pioneer 10 and Pioneer 11 spacecraft, over a large range of emission angles, have indicated an effective temperature for Jupiter of 125 degrees +/- 3 degrees K. The implied ratio of planetary thermal emission to solar energy absorbed is 1.9+/-0.2, a value not significantly different from the earth-based estimate of 2.5+/-0.5.

When plasma containing a hepatitis-associated antigen (Au/SH) is fractionated, the antigen is localized in fractions III and IV with none in fraction II and only small amounts in fractions I and V. The amount of antigen found in each of these fractions is probably not predictive of clinical infectivity of Cohn ethanol fractions from normnal pooled plasna.

Operant control of eye movements during human vigilance

Eye movements were used as a criterion of observing responses in a vigilance task. Time on watch and signal rates similarly affected both eye-movement rates and percentage of detections. Observing rate may account for detection data, and may be a more stable measure of vigilance than detection rate is, especially when very few signals occur.     

Amyloid beta protein precursor is possibly a heparan sulfate proteoglycan core protein

The amyloid beta protein peptide is a major constituent of amyloid plaque cores in Alzheimer's disease and is apparently derived from a higher molecular weight precursor. It is now shown that the core protein of a heparan sulfate proteoglycan secreted from a nerve cell line (PC12) has an amino acid sequence and a size very similar to those of the amyloid beta protein precursor and that these molecules are antigenically related. This amyloid beta protein precursor-related protein is not found in the conditioned medium of a variant cell line (F3 PC12) that does not secrete heparan sulfate proteoglycan. The synaptic localization and metabolism of this class of proteoglycans are consistent with its potential involvement in central nervous system dysfunction.
