The importance of the soil humus content is indisputable. Soil humus plays an important role in preserving soil fertility and exerts great influence on plant production and yield potential. However, proofing that management‐related changes in the stock of soil organic matter (SOM) have taken place against the background of spatial and temporal variation is a difficult task. In most cases, sampling over a long period of time is needed to verify these changes. Alternatively, potential changes in the SOM stock can be estimated using humus balancing models, which help to identify the need for humus reproduction on a farm. In general, a humus balance is the difference between the humus demand of cultivated crops and humus supply through crops and organic fertilizers. In this study, the ‘Dynamic Humus Unit Method' within the modelling program REPRO was applied to calculate the humus balance for 29 model‐farms that are representative of most of the agricultural production in Austria. Each model‐farm represents a specific production type (PT) and farming system in a defined region or main production area (MPA). This approach gives an overview of the humus balances at a large scale and allows a general trend in Austria to be estimated. Besides differing between conventional and organic farming systems, specific site conditions can also be selected in the model. The constructed model‐farms belong to different PTs such as “forage production”, “cash crops”, “refinement”, and “permanent crops”. The PT “permanent crops” refers to the cultivation of wine. The cropping system of each PT was analyzed in detail, while livestock keeping was considered only when applicable. Positive humus balances were found for all PTs except for permanent crops. The results ranged from –122 to 890 kg C ha?1 y?1. Regions and farm structure, e.g., forage production compared to cash crop, were found to have a greater influence than the kind of farming system (i.e., organic vs. conventional farming). Comparing the different PTs, forage production had the highest positive humus balances (219 to 890 kg C ha?1 y?1), followed by cash crop (24 to 239 kg C ha?1 y?1), refinement (–64 to 402 kg C ha?1 y?1) and permanent crops (–122 to –38 kg C ha?1 y?1). Regarding the farming system, organic farming led to more humus accumulation than conventional farming due to a higher share of fodder legumes and catch crops and more diverse crop rotations. The results were within the range of available empirical data on SOM change, and it was therefore concluded that the results are reasonable. A balsam poplar clone (Populus trichocarpa cv. Weser 6) was inoculated by two ectomycorrhizal strains (Laccaria bicolor MW 158 and Paxillus involutus 1444) in Kick‐Brauckmann‐pots. The substrates were two arable sandy soils (Cambisols) with different organic matter content and nutrient supply. One soil (WIL) was rich in organic matter (Corg = 1.6%) and total nitrogen (Nt = 0.14%), whereas the other soil (RIE) had low contents of Corg (0.8%) and Nt (0.08%). Leaf nutrient concentrations, shoot lengths, root and shoot biomass production and nitrogen accumulation in the biomass were determined to discover possible inoculation effects. Mycorrhization indices (% colonized fine roots) of 36% with Laccaria bicolor and 40% with Paxillus involutus were observed on the Corg rich soil (WIL) in contrast to 16% and 14% on the Corg poor soil (RIE), respectively. Inoculation of poplar on the soil WIL increased shoot length, biomass production, shoot:root ratio and total N uptake of the cuttings, whereas on the soil RIE only the shoot:root ratio increased and the N nutrition was improved. Pony peripheral blood lymphocytes (PBL) were stimulated with a soluble fraction of Trypanosoma (T.) evansi (SF). As determined by 3H-thymidine incorporation, the cells underwent a proliferative response and were able to: a) produce a factor having the biological activities of interleukin 2 (IL-2) since their supernatants could support the in vitro growth of pony PBL stimulated with concanavalin A (Con A-blasts); b) undergo a further proliferative response when incubated in short term cultures with SF, human recombinant IL-2 (hrIL-2), or both c) bind specifically radiolabelled hrIL-2 (125I-hrIL-2). Twenty‐two dogs with a history of at least 4 weeks pruritus were studied to determine the effect of whirlpool use on the efficacy of topical therapy with an antipruritic shampoo (Allermyl®, Virbac; Bad Oldesloe, Germany). Dogs in group 1 received initially topical therapy with conventional shampooing (2 mL shampoo per kilogram bodyweight) once weekly for 4 weeks. Dogs in group 2 received the same therapy using a whirlpool (Sanwhirl, Peter Aschauer GmbH; Gräfelfing, Germany). The treatments were crossed between the groups resulting in each dog in groups 1 and 2 receiving both therapies. Group 3 was the control group and was treated once weekly in the whirlpool without any shampoo during the 8 weeks of study. Prior to each therapy, dogs were evaluated by a clinician not aware of the type of treatment using a clinical scoring system (Canine Atopic Dermatitis Extent and Severity Index – CADESI). Owners evaluated the pruritus daily on a visual analogue scale. There was a significant difference in pruritus scores but not CADESI scores after therapy between the control treatment and the conventional shampoo therapy or shampoo treatment in the whirlpool. In an effort to identify the signal compound that mediates systemic acquired resistance (SAR), changes in the content of phloem sap were monitored in cucumber plants inoculated with either tobacco necrosis virus or the fungal pathogen Colletotrichum lagenarium. The concentration of a fluorescent metabolite was observed to increase transiently after inoculation, with a peak reached before SAR was detected. The compound was purified and identified by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry as salicylic acid, a known exogenous inducer of resistance. The data suggest that salicylic acid could function as the endogenous signal in the transmission of SAR in cucumber. 相似文献

The influence of the fungal toxin fusicoccin or the quasi‐ionophore gramicidin‐D on Rb+ transport in intact barley seedlings (Hordeum vulgare cv Morex) was studied. Fusicoccin (1 μM) or gramlcidin‐D (3.2 μM) were added to absorption solutions which contained 0.1 mM RbCl and 0.5 mM CaSO4, and the Rb+ content of roots and shoots determined over a 24 hour period. Roots of fusicoccin‐treated seedlings contained greater amounts of Rb+ throughout the entire course of the experiment, and roots of gramlcidin‐D treated seedlings contained greater amounts of Rb+ for the first 10 hours but contained smaller amounts of Rb+ for the rest of the experiment when compared with control seedlings. However, shoots of seedlings treated with fusicoccin or gramicidin‐D contained smaller amounts of Rb+ than the control seedlings throughout the entire course of the experiment. These results are discussed in terms of the interrelationships of the ion transport mechanisms which mediate the vectorial movement of ions from the absorption solution to the stelar apoplasm of the root. 相似文献
