Fowl cholera immunity in broiler breeder chickens determined by the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
An enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was developed to detect antibodies in broiler breeders vaccinated (wing web) with the CU fowl cholera vaccine. Birds were bled weekly from 9 to 26 weeks, every other week from 26 to 40 weeks, and every 4 weeks from 40 to 56 weeks of age. Overall mean ELISA antibody titers (9 to 56 weeks) reported as log10 values and survivability of the vaccinates after virulent challenge were as follows: unvaccinated--5.75, 48%; birds vaccinated once at 8 weeks--5.91, 78%; birds vaccinated twice at 8 and 14 weeks--6.11, 100%; birds vaccinated thrice at 8, 14, and 20 weeks--6.23, 100%; birds vaccinated twice at 8 and 20 weeks--6.12, 100%; and birds vaccinated twice at 8 and 20 weeks (plus fowl pox at 8 weeks)--6.08, 95%. Survivability in the vaccinates after virulent challenge with strain X-73 Pasteurella multocida was 100% in birds with ELISA antibody titers (log10) greater than 6.02. Under the conditions of this experiment, birds vaccinated two or three times between 8 and 20 weeks proved to be sufficiently immune at 56 weeks of age to withstand a virulent fowl cholera challenge. Routine surveillance data, collected on pathology submissions at the Animal Health Laboratory in Guelph between 1992 and 1997, were analyzed to determine demographic, clinical, and pathologic characteristics of cases of proliferative enteropathy and the frequency of this condition relative to other infectious enteric diseases in swine in Ontario. The most commonly reported disease was Escherichia coli enteritis (average cases/year = 70.0). Among infectious enteropathies that occur typically in neonatal pigs, coccidiosis (28.4 cases/year) and rotaviral enteritis (5.6 cases/year) were reported. Among infectious enteropathies generally associated with diarrhea in weaner and grower/finisher pigs, the most frequently reported was proliferative enteropathy (27.6 cases/year), followed by swine dysentery (23.3 cases/year), transmissible gastroenteritis (19.6 cases/year), and salmonellosis (8.4 cases/year). Diarrhea and bloody diarrhea were reported in 29% and 31%, respectively, of herds diagnosed with proliferative enteropathy. Important gross intestinal lesions included mucosal hypertrophy (62% of cases), hemorrhage (47%), and mucosal necrosis (34%). Histologic intestinal lesions included epithelial hyperplasia (90% of cases), mucosal necrosis (59%), and inflammation (49%). Our results suggest that proliferative enteropathy is a major infectious enteric disease in grower/finisher pigs in Ontario. 相似文献

Alfalfa, maize, sorghum and sugarbeet plants were inoculated with zoospores ofPhytophthora andPythium species in order to assess the effects of inoculum density, plant age and temperature on disease severity. Seedlings were
grown axenically in test tubes and inoculated with zoospore suspensions. Disease severity was assessed by measuring the root
growth and discoloration of treated and control seedlings. The incremental root length of all plants decreased and root discoloration
increased as inoculum concentration of the pathogen increased. Changes were more intensive among low levels of zoospore concentrations
and no significant differences in disease severity were found for inoculum densities higher than 104 zoospores ml-1. Disease severity was negatively related to plant age. Disease development on sugarbeet seedlings infected withPythium andPhytophthora species was affected by temperature, but the pattern of response was determined by the pathogen’s temperature preferences.
The incremental root length decreased as temperature increased up to 25°C. The effect ofPythium dissimile andPhytophthora cactorum on root length was significantly lower at 35°C than at 25°C, whereasPythium aphanidermatum andPhytophthora nicotianae caused significant damage to roots even at 35°C.

The efficacy of tilmicosin administered in the feed to control Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae infections in pigs was evaluated through a multisite, multitrial study. For each of 6 trials, 48 pigs (stratified by weight and sex) were randomly assigned to 6 to 8 pens. Medicated feed containing tilmicosin (200 g/t) and unmedicated feed were randomly assigned at the pen level and were provided ad libitum from day −7 to trial termination (day 14). Seeder pigs (inoculated intranasally with A. pleuropneumoniae serotype 1 and showing signs of clinical disease) were introduced to each pen on day 0. Rates of death, gross lesions, and culture of A. pleuropneumoniae at necropsy, clinical scores, average daily gain in weight, and average body temperature were compared between the medicated and unmedicated pigs. Compared with the unmedicated pigs, significantly fewer (P < 0.05) pigs given tilmicosin had lesions typical of A. pleuropneumoniae or had A. pleuropneumoniae isolated from their tissues at necropsy. Together with a significant reduction (P < 0.05) in the average percentage of pneumonic lung involvement (both visually and by weight), there were reductions in the numbers of pigs with moderate and severe pneumonic lung lesions and with A. pleuropneumoniae associated mortality. With tilmicosin treatment, the average daily weight gain, daily temperature, abdominal appearance, attitude, and respiration were also significantly better (P < 0.05). The results of this study demonstrate the in vivo effectiveness of tilmicosin (200 g/t) in controlling pleuropneumonia among swine experimentally infected with A. pleuropneumoniae. 相似文献

The production of knot-free wood is important since the market demands wood without knots for reasons of both appearance and material properties. This work describes a simulation of the removal of knots from star-sawn and square-sawn timber. The efficiency of the two methods is compared in terms of the length of the knot-free components obtained and the volume yield. The simulation was based on data for trees and logs taken from the Swedish Stem Bank. These data were then used to simulate the sawmill process in a computer program called the Virtual Sawmill. Data related to the boards obtained were used in a MATLAB model simulating the cross-cutting of knots. Simulated star-sawing of logs with a top diameter exceeding 230 mm gave a mean knot-free component length of 417±321 mm, while the mean length of knot-free components for simulated square-sawing of the same logs was 298±122 mm. The volume yield of knot-free components from the two sawing patterns was 91% for star-sawing and 87% for square-sawing. For timber with cross-section dimensions of 38×75 mm2, the mean length and yield of knot-free components from simulated star-sawing were 451±349 mm and 90%, respectively. In simulated square-sawing, the corresponding values were 263±197 mm and 82%, respectively. This shows that star-sawing has potential for the production of knot-free timber. 相似文献

The effect of hydration level on processing properties and the effects of hydration level, concentration of buckwheat bran flour and drying temperature on the physical and cooking quality of spaghetti were determined. Specific mechanical energy transferred to the dough during extrusion decreased 69% for semolina and 79% for semolina containing 30%, w/w, buckwheat bran flour, as hydration level increased 29–32% absorption. Little or no postdrier checking occurred in spaghetti made from semolina or spaghetti containing buckwheat bran flour when dried at high (70°C) or ultrahigh temperature (90°C). When dried at low temperature (40°C), tolerance to postdrier checking of spaghetti decreased as buckwheat bran flour increased 0–30% (w/w). Hydration level before extrusion did not affect cooking loss of spaghetti made from semolina. However, cooking loss was greater from spaghetti made with semolinabuckwheat bran flour that was hydrated to 32% compared with 29–31% absorption. Cooked firmness of spaghetti containing buckwheat bran flour decreased from 0.588–0.471 Nm as hydration increased from 29–32% absorption.
