The western flower thrips Frankliniella occidentalis (Pergande) is a very significant pest of a number of different agricultural crops in the south-east of Spain. The importance of thrips as a pest is not due mainly to the direct damage inflicted on the plant, but to the loss in commercial value which occurs as a consequence of the development of dark spots caused by the tomato spotted wilt virus (TSWV) which they transmit. The economic threshold is therefore almost zero, which enhances the problems of resistance management. The present work is part of a global project that attempts to evaluate the status of insecticide resistance in field populations of thrips obtained from several agricultural crops. We have studied, in either individual or pooled insects, some enzyme systems classically related to detoxification of insecticides: esterase and glutathione-S-transferase (GST). The activity of these enzymes from laboratory populations selected with various classes of insecticides has also been measured using several appropriate substrates. An increase in GST mean activity was found in two field-collected strains. Differences in frequency distributions of esterase and GST activities were found for both field-collected strains and for a laboratory strain selected with acrinathrin. These activities were compared with those of a wild-type reference strain.  相似文献

The influence of hormonal superovulatory preparations Folistiman (450 IU FSH, Spofa, Prague) and serum gonadotropin (1500 IU PMSG, Spofa, Prague) on monoamine oxidase (MAO), the degradative enzyme of catecholamines, was investigated in some areas of the brain regulating reproductive functions (area preoptica of the hypothalamus, pituitary gland, and pineal gland) in ewes with synchronized oestrus (20 mg chlorsuperlutin) during the oestrous period using a radiochemical method. After intramuscular administration of 1500 IU PMSG, marked increase of MAO activity was found in the area preoptica (p < 0.05) and in the pituitary gland (p < 0.01) in comparison with the control group. No change occurred in MAO activity after ovarian stimulation with FSH. Administration of the above superovulatory preparations failed to induce MAO activity in the pineal gland of sheep.  相似文献

We examined exogenous and endogenous development of Eimeria procera in experimentally infected grey partridges (Perdix perdix). Our examination included data on morphology, localization, duration of schizogony and gametogony and morphology of sporulated oocysts. The endogenous stages of E. procera developed in large numbers within the epithelial cells of caecal crypts. The asexual development comprised three generations of schizonts. The first fully developed macrogametes and microgamonts were observed on Day 5 post-infection (p.i.) in histologic section. The patent period began on Day 6 p.i. and ended on Day 11 p.i. with peak production of oocysts on Days 7 and 8. Long oval oocysts of E. procera measured 25.78–28.13 μm in length and 14.06–15.24 μm in width, sporulation time ranged from 18 to 24 h at 25°C and from 36 to 48 h at 20°C.  相似文献

A semi-nested polymerase chain reaction (snPCR) for detecting proviral DNA of ovine lentivirus (OvLV) in peripheral blood mononuclear cells was developed. Primers for snPCR were situated within the gag gene of the Maedi-Visna virus (MVV) genome. A comparison between the snPCR and serological tests (agar gel immunodiffusion test, immunoblot) were performed using 98 ovine blood samples. Thirty (30.6%) of the 98 sheep examined had antibodies specific for the MVV. PCR showed 21 of them to be positive and nine seropositive animals to be PCR negative. Six of the 68 serologically negative sheep were found to be PCR positive, probably due to delayed seroconversion. The PCR amplification products of these six sheep were sequenced and subjected to phylogenetic analysis. The resulting phylogenetic tree of partial gag gene sequences confirmed that the ovine lentivirus genotype in the Czech Republic is more closely related to the prototype MVV isolates than to the caprine arthritis encephalitis viruses.  相似文献

Feline renal transplantation can offer long-term survival with a normal quality of life for cats with renal failure. However, it is important to remember that renal transplantation is a treatment option and not a cure. Renal transplantation is never performed on an emergency basis or prophylactically. Feline renal transplantation requires special microvascular instruments and an operating microscope. Careful patient selection and perioperative monitoring have improved the success rate. The new microemulsified form of cyclosporine is recommended for immunosuppression. As survival times have steadily improved, long-term complications, such as diabetes and neoplasia, are now being recognized.  相似文献

Companion planting of Cleome gynandra, of Kenyan origin, in beds of cut-flower roses reduces significantly red spider mite (Tetranychus urticae Koch) infestation without any detrimental effect on productivity or flower quality. The level of reduction is dependent upon the density of the C. gynandra plants with 15 plants in a 1.8 m2 bed (8.3 plants m2) being the most effective, planted either around the bed perimeter or within the rows of roses. The relatively high density of C. gynandra plants required may limit the direct application of this technology in export-focused, greenhouse rose production yet may be of significant value as a supplement to other mite-control strategies. The potential benefits of such companion planting for growers of field roses and those involved in some domestic markets are also evident. Research into the nature and extraction of the active, volatile mite-repellant components of C. gynandra is indicated.  相似文献

Midazolam HCl (1.0 or 2.0 mg/kg of body weight) was administered IM to 6 Canada geese to determine a sedative dose that would allow positioning for radiologic examination. The effects of both test doses on cardiopulmonary function were evaluated at 5, 10, 15, 20, 30, and 40 minutes after drug administration and were compared with 2 end-tidal isoflurane concentrations (1.5 and 2.5%). The 2.0 mg/kg dosage induced moderate sedation at 15 and 20 minutes; sedation was adequate for positioning the geese. Sedation induced by the 1.0 mg/kg dosage was inadequate. The effects of both test doses on blood pressure, heart rate, and temperature were not significantly different from each other and from baseline data. Respiratory rate increased significantly (P less than 0.05) at 10, 15, 20, and 30 minutes with the 2.0 mg/kg dosage, and at 15 and 20 minutes with the 1.0 mg/kg dosage. Blood pressure and respiratory rate were significantly (P less than 0.05) decreased with isoflurane when compared with baseline data and the midazolam test doses. The results of this study indicate that midazolam at a dosage of 2.0 mg/kg induces adequate sedation with minimal cardiopulmonary changes, and, as an alternative to general anesthesia with isoflurane, provides a satisfactory level of restraint for radiography.  相似文献

Stimulation of early flowering is required to shorten breeding cycles of eastern cottonwood (Populus deltoides Bartr. ex Marsh. var. deltoides), a commercially important and fast-growing hardwood species. A series of experiments was conducted to evaluate the influence of various treatments on flowering in rooted cuttings from mature and juvenile trees. A combined treatment of water stress, root pruning and paclobutrazol was applied to 3-month-old rooted cuttings from mature trees. These cuttings had been subjected to root restriction and long days. All treated plants flowered, whereas no untreated plants formed flower buds. One-year-old rooted cuttings from juvenile trees did not flower when treated with either paclobutrazol, paclobutrazol plus water stress, paclobutrazol plus root pruning, or paclobutrazol plus girdling. This was true both under continuous or periodic growth. Assessment of the lack of flowering in juvenile trees may require an integrated approach that investigates environmental or physiological stimuli, assimilate shift, gibberellic acid type and concentration, and flowering-time gene activity in the new shoots of mature and juvenile cottonwood trees.  相似文献

Human commercial activities must be compatible with sustainable management to achieve species conservation in the natural environment. After harvesting, diversity and abundance of understory species differ substantially from the pre-harvest situation. Have knowledge of the changes that logging produces in all components of the system allows us to develop management alternatives with reduced impacts. The objective of this work was to evaluate changes in density, biomass and diversity of understory species along a forest shelterwood cut system management cycle in aNothofagus pumilio forest. Six forest management situations (postharvesting stands and different phases of forest development) were sampled in a pureN. pumilio forest of Tierra del Fuego (Argentina) of middle-high site class (fromclass I toIII). Species number, density and biomass were modified substantially after a shelterwood cut. These were being greatest after cutting and falling substantially when the forest canopy closes during theinitial growth phase, returning to values similar to this virgin forest when themature phase was reached. The impact of the forest management on understory species diversity is analyzed and discussed. The silvicultural practices applied toN. pumilio forest in Tierra del Fuego permit the introduction of alien flora to the system, and produce great changes during the forest management cycle.
