A 12-year-old female dog with a 3-month history of poor response to diabetes treatment had an acute worsening of symptoms, including weakness and blindness. The dog had elevated blood glucose, alkaline phosphatase and urea concentration, hyposthenuria, glycosuria, hematuria, and pyuria. Escherichia coli was isolated from the urine. Radiographs and ultrasound examination showed that the dog had unilateral emphysematous pyelitis and concurrent cystitis associated with vesicoureteral reflux. 相似文献

Key Message
This article presents the enhancement in boron fixation as well as the improved biological resistance against fungi and termites for wood samples treated with tannin-caprolactam and tannin-PEG formulations.Context
Although the recently developed tannin-boron wood preservatives have shown high biological protection, they presented also average resistance against weathering. The tannin-caprolactam formulations have shown improved weathering resistances and dimensional stability.Aims
For this reason, more detailed biological tests were performed to evaluate the influence of the caprolactam and PEG on the biological resistance.Methods
In this paper, the boron leaching of the tannin-caprolactam and tannin-PEG impregnated Scots pine specimens was observed and the biocidal effect against fungi (Antrodia spp. and Coniophora puteana) and insects (Reticulitermes flavipes and Hylotrupes bajulus) were determined according to the guidelines of EN 113, EN 117, and EN 47.Results
The advanced formulations containing PEG have shown interesting resistance against fungal decay, but very low penetration and weak resistance against larvae while the tannin-caprolactam preservatives have shown overall improved biological performances and higher boron fixations.Conclusion
The biocidal activity of the caprolactam-added formulations was overall enhanced and therefore these formulations are confirmed to be an interesting alternative for the wood preservation in outdoor environment.166.

"Greek-style" Moroccan black table olives were screened for potent odorants by GC/olfactometry/aroma extract dilution analysis of representative Likens-Nickerson extracts and compared with "Spanish-style" green fruits. ( Z)-3-Hexenal, ( E, E)-2,4-decadienal, ( E, Z)-2,4-decadienal, guaiacol, and methional were found in both green and black olives, but with significant differences in concentration according to the fruit ripening degree (the first was lower and the last two were higher in black fruits). Specific compounds not previously detected in green olives (gamma-deca- and dodecalactones, delta-decalactone, and 2-methyl-3-furanthiol) proved to be, with methional, the strongest odors in black olive extracts. Nidularium minutum Mez is a terrestrial bromeliad with ornamental potential, especially as a species that develops the shade. This, as well as many other bromeliads, is endangered. We studied the growth of nitrogen (N). N. minutum cultured in vitro in different concentrations of nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), potassium (K), or calcium (Ca) to develop an ideal growth environment for this plant to preserve the species. Results favorable to the growth were treatments containing 60 mM N, 0.60 and 1.25 mM P, 10 mM K, and 1.5 mM Ca. Based on these results two new culture media were prepared (T1 and T2) and were compared with the MS medium with dilutions of macronutrients (50%, 20%, 10%, and 5%). The aim of this study was to use preselected quality indicators for Litopenaeus vannamei post-larvae and the stable isotopes technique with δ13C and δ15N to determine the influence of bioflocs in shrimp feeding during the nursery phase, between PL1 and PL30. A control treatment (CT) with water renewal was compared to a biofloc treatment (BT) that received organic carbon fertilizations. Different types of commercial feed (Stresspak and Flake-INVE?, PL40-GUABI?), microalgae (Chaetoceros muelleri) and Artemia sp. nauplii were used as food sources. The physical and chemical parameters of water and ammonia were monitored daily, and nitrite, nitrate and alkalinity were measured weekly. Suspended solids and the microorganisms of bioflocs were characterized. At the end of the experiment, fifteen shrimps of each replicate were collected to evaluate nine larvae quality indicators. Isotopic values of 13C and 15N of food sources and shrimp tissues were collected on days 10, 20 and 30, and a Bayesian model of isotopic mixture measured the contributions of these sources to the shrimp biomass. Salinity, alkalinity and nitrite differed significantly between the treatments but were appropriate for post-larvae production. The larvae quality conditions in the CT treatment were ranked as “good,” whereas the BT conditions were considered “excellent” according to the analysis of larval quality parameters. The stable isotopes analysis showed that the PL40 GUABI? feed was the most important food source throughout the experimental period in the CT. In the BT (10th and 20th days), the bioflocs and commercial feeds (Flake-INVE?, PL40-GUABI?) did not present significant variations in their contribution ratios; however, on the 30th day, the contribution of the PL40-GUABI? feed was higher when compared to bioflocs. In general, the commercial feed played a more important role as a food source for Litopenaeus vannamei larvae during the nursery phase, although the consumption of bioflocs led to a better larvae quality. 相似文献

The present work evaluated the use of probiotics during the nursery rearing of the pink shrimp Farfantepenaeus brasiliensis, in a zero exchange aerobic heterotrophic culture system during 30 days. Three replicate tanks were randomly assigned to the following treatments: (1) Bacillus spp. mixture (Sanolife Pro‐‐W®), (2) Bacillus sp., Enterococcus sp., Lactobacillus spp. mixture (Biomin Start‐grow®), (3) Bacillus cereus var. toyoi and (4) control treatment (without probiotic addition). Bacteriological analysis monitored the abundance of presumptive Vibrio spp. in the water of experimental tanks. For the immunological analysis, shrimp haemolymph was collected to determine the granular haemocyte count and total protein concentration. Results showed that mean final weight and specific growth rate of shrimp in the probiotic treatments were significantly higher. Furthermore, shrimp reared in the probiotic treatments showed higher levels of total protein and granular haemocyte. The bacteriological analysis showed that the concentration of Vibrio spp. measured in probiotic treatment tanks was lower than that recorded in the control tanks. 相似文献
