Controlling infectious diseases at the wildlife/livestock interface is often difficult because the ecological processes driving transmission between wildlife reservoirs and sympatric livestock populations are poorly understood. Thus, assessing how animals use their environment and how this affects interspecific interactions is an important factor in determining the local risk for disease transmission and maintenance. We used data from concurrently monitored GPS-collared domestic cattle and wild boar (Sus scrofa) to assess spatiotemporal interactions and associated implications for bovine tuberculosis (TB) transmission in a complex ecological and epidemiological system, Doñana National Park (DNP, South Spain). We found that fine-scale spatial overlap of cattle and wild boar was seasonally high in some habitats. In general, spatial interactions between the two species were highest in the marsh-shrub ecotone and at permanent water sources, whereas shrub-woodlands and seasonal grass-marshlands were areas with lower predicted relative interactions. Wild boar and cattle generally used different resources during winter and spring in DNP. Conversely, limited differences in resource selection during summer and autumn, when food and water availability were limiting, resulted in negligible spatial segregation and thus probably high encounter rates. The spatial gradient in potential overlap between the two species across DNP corresponded well with the spatial variation in the observed incidence of TB in cattle and prevalence of TB in wild boar. We suggest that the marsh-shrub ecotone and permanent water sources act as important points of TB transmission in our system, particularly during summer and autumn. Targeted management actions are suggested to reduce potential interactions between cattle and wild boar in order to prevent disease transmission and design effective control strategies.

A simple flow injection potentiometric (FIP) system, which uses a tubular cobalt electrode, has been developed for phosphorus nutritional evaluation of seeds and grains. Inorganic phosphorus, P(i), is determined using a 1 x 10(-2) mol.L(-1) potassium phthalate buffer solution adjusted at pH 4. A sensitivity of 47 mV/decade and an operating range from 10 to 1000 mg.L(-1) (1 x 10(-4)-1 x 10(-2) M) of dihydrogen phosphate are obtained. The inositol phosphates amount, which is referred to the organic phosphorus, P(org), is directly determined from extracts using a 1 x 10(-2) mol.L(-1) Tris-HCl buffer solution adjusted at pH 8. A sensitivity of 127 mV/decade and an operating range of 10-1000 mg.L(-1) (2.5 x 10(-4)-5 x 10(-3) M) of P(org) (expressed as inositol hexakisphosphoric acid monocalcium) are achieved. Some samples of seed and grain are analyzed by an ICP-OES and a spectrophotometric method to compare results to the developed flow system; no significant differences at the 95% confidence level are observed using a paired t test. Other samples such as animal nursing feed, soybean meal, and corn are also analyzed with the proposed FIP system, showing a good correlation to the ICP-OES values.  相似文献

Aflatoxin contamination is one of the main factors affecting peanut seed quality. One of the strategies to decrease the risk of peanut aflatoxin contamination is the use of genotypes with resistance to Aspergillus infection. This laboratory study reports the resistance to Aspergillus infection and aflatoxin contamination of six peanut genotypes inoculated with 21 Aspergillus isolates obtained from the peanut production region of Cordoba, Argentina. The resistance was investigated in the seed coat and cotyledons of three resistant genotypes (J11, PI 337394, and PI 337409) and three breeding lines (Manfredi 68, Colorado Irradiado, and Florman INTA) developed at the Instituto Nacional de Tecnologia Agropecuaria (INTA), Manfredi Experimental Station, Cordoba, Argentina. Resistance to fungal colonization and aflatoxin contamination was found to be associated with seed coat integrity in the PI 337394, PI 337409, and J11 genotypes, whereas the INTA breeding lines such as Colorado Irradiado showed a moderate resistance and the Manfredi 68 and Florman INTA genotypes the least resistance. Furthermore, another type of resistance associated with cotyledons was found only in the PI 337394 genotype.  相似文献

A lot of research is done to monitor yield during harvesting. Combined with a positioning system, this information can be used to produce yield maps. Based on the yields of successive years, site-specific field management can be done, aiming for higher local economic and ecological yield efficiencies. In this research, a curved plate mass flow sensor for sugar beet is designed with the aid of a mathematical model. The principle is based on measuring the impulse flow colliding with the plate. For granular materials, an accuracy of 2% is achieved.The mass flow sensor for sugar beet is integrated as a curved side rack in the cleaning channel of the harvester. The side rack is mechanically isolated from the frame. A theoretical model of the beet flow over the turbines of the cleaning unit is calculated and incorporates all physical parameters that influence the mass flow measurement by the momentum sensor. The flow density and friction coefficients with the rack and the turbine characterise the mass flow. From the model, the influence of the different parameters (slope, beet velocity, friction, length of the plate) on the momentum is investigated. The force exerted on the rack of the cleaning unit is measured, from which the momentum can be indirectly calculated. A measurement device is constructed, minimising the influence of the harvesting conditions and the material properties. After calibration, measurements are carried out on the cleaning unit of a Dewulf R6000T (two-phase system) and an Agrifac ZA 215 EH (one-phase system).Research is done to construct the sensor independent on friction properties between beets and the rack. Major influence comes from the velocity of the transported material. Variations in beet speed have to be registered continuously with a Doppler radar meter. Influences of a varying slope can also be corrected regarding the instantaneous beet velocities. More accurate measurements are done when the sensor is installed on bigger spinning wheels because of higher momentum due to a higher centrifugal force and hence a higher signal to noise ratio. To evaluate the model, only average mass flows and flow speeds could be used to predict the executed moments. When comparing the integrated measured momentum and the scale weight of the harvester bin, the error never exceeds 3% when using the derived equation.  相似文献

The objective of the study was to analyze the reproductive longevity of 2 selected lines of rabbits. The first one was the Prat line, a line selected in Spain on litter size at weaning, and raised in overlapping generations. The second one was a French line, the A1077 line, selected on litter size at birth and individual weight at 63 d of age, managed in batches, and artificially inseminated with discrete generations. Reproductive longevity was measured beginning at the first successful mating, assessed by a pregnancy diagnosis in the Prat line, and at the first kindling in the A1077 line. In the A1077 line, culling for infertility occurred after 3 unsuccessful artificial inseminations. The trait analyzed, defined as the doe length of productive life (LPL), was the time in days between date of the first positive pregnancy diagnosis and date of culling or death in the Prat line. In the A1077 line, the trait was the number of AI after the first kindling. Effects included in the model were year-season, litter size at birth, reproductive cycle or physiological status x cycle interaction, age at first mating, batch (only for the A1077 line), and additive genetic value of the animal as a random effect. Survival analyses were carried out with a Cox model for the Prat line and a discrete model for the A1077 line. The estimated heritability values for LPL were around 0.16 in the Prat and A1077 lines with a model including physiological status x cycle interaction effect. Removing this effect from the model led to an increase in estimated genetic variance with h2 = 0.24 and 0.19 in the Prat and A1077 lines, respectively. Including the traits LPL and number of AI from first fertile mating or AI in selection programs could increase reproductive longevity and decrease the replacement rate.  相似文献

A complete diallel cross involving 3 maternal lines of rabbit was performed to estimate cross-breeding parameters for functional longevity. This trait was defined as the ability to delay involuntary culling. The lines considered, A, V, and Prat, had all been selected by litter size at weaning for a long period. Data were related to a total of 653 does belonging to the 9 genetic types from the diallel cross; does were reared and bred on the same commercial farm. Survival analysis was performed using a Cox proportional hazard model. The model incorporated time-dependent factors, such as year-season, litter size, and the interaction between cycle and physiological status of the female; time-independent factors, such as the genetic type of the doe; and sire and dam random factors. Crossbreeding parameters were estimated from the solutions obtained for the type of doe and its estimated variance-covariance matrix, using a generalized least squares procedure. The estimated parameters were the differences between lines in direct genetic effects and maternal genetic effects and individual heterosis. Relevant differences were observed in direct genetic effects between lines A and Prat but not in any maternal effects. Heterosis was found to be significant and favorable between lines A and Prat, and between the lines V and Prat. The magnitude of this effect was variable but important, especially in the first cross. Results stress the importance of using crosses between specialized lines to produce does for intensive meat rabbit production.  相似文献

The stability of the cyclopropane ring and the fatty acid composition of microbial cells were determined using chlorotrimethylsilane as reagent with three different conditions 80 degrees C for 1 h, 60 degrees C for 1 h, and 60 degrees C for 2 h. Chlorotrimethylsilane permits a simultaneous extraction and derivatization of fatty acids. A basic method was used as reference. The bacteria, Escherichia coli, Burkholderia cepacia, and Lactobacillus brevis, and fungi Aspergillus niger and Gibberella fujikuroi were used. The stability of the cyclopropane ring on acidic conditions was tested using the cyclopropanecarboxylic acid and a commercial mixture of bacteria fatty acid methyl esters (BAME). Fisher's least significant difference test showed significant differences among the methods. The method using chlorotrimethylsilane and 1-pentanol for 1 h at 80 degrees C gave the best results in cyclopropane, hydroxyl, and total fatty acid recoveries. This procedure allows the fast and easy one-step direct extraction derivatization.  相似文献
