A shaped, magnetic ceramic was obtained from a metal-containing polymer network, which was synthesized by thermal polymerization of a metal-containing organosilicon monomer. Pyrolysis of a cylinder, shape, or film of the metal-containing polymer precursor produced a low-density magnetic ceramic replica in high yield. The magnetic properties of the shaped ceramic could be tuned between a superparamagnetic and ferromagnetic state by controlling the pyrolysis conditions, with the particular state dependent on the size of iron nanoclusters homogeneously dispersed throughout the carbosilane-graphitic-silicon nitride matrix. These results indicate that cross-linked metal-containing polymers may be useful precursors to ceramic monoliths with tailorable magnetic properties. 相似文献

Nutrition is a critical component of equine health. Horse owners' knowledge of nutrition is likely to affect their feeding practices. The aim of this study was to survey feeding practices, dietary supplement use, and knowledge about equine nutrition in New England by surveying a subpopulation of horse owners (67/337 or 19.8%) who brought their horses to the Large Animal Hospital at the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University between July and September 2008. All owners reported feeding hay, with the majority feeding grass or timothy hay. Most owners (96%) reported feeding a concentrate in addition to hay. Approximately 84% of owners reported including at least one dietary supplement in their horse's daily feeding. The most commonly used supplements were chondroprotectives, electrolytes, and multivitamins. Survey questions designed to assess the owner's knowledge of nutrition suggested that many owners may not have a basic understanding of principles of equine nutrition; less than 50% knew the daily water and hay requirements for a horse, and 69% lacked knowledge about the proper use of concentrates in a diet. Most of the surveyed owners consulted multiple sources of information concerning equine nutrition, including veterinarians (n = 36), trainers (n = 27), feed stores (n = 10), and the internet (n = 7). Although the major source of information was the veterinarian, it appears that the communication between horse owners and their veterinarian about optimal feeding practices could be enhanced. Boron deficiency is a major production constraint of Mango cv Alphonso in western coast, Maharashtra, India. The soils are sandy-loam, light, acidic in reaction and receive high annual precipitation of above 2,500 mm. The leaf and soil B status was low with an average of 23 and 0.25 mg kg−1 respectively. About 60% of the orchards were found to be deficient in B. The B adsorption study using Langmuir adsorption isotherm revealed that the adsorption capacity of B by these soils was low with an average adsorption maxima (b) of 16.62 μg g−1 and bonding energy constant ( K ) of 0.09 mL μg−1 making soil B susceptible to leaching. The Mango leaf N status was in excess range, which aggravated B deficiency through growth dilution. A significant negative correlation was observed between leaf B and leaf N (statistically significant at 1% level (p=0.01)). The free Al status of the soils was found to be fairly high, and its detrimental effect on root growth was observed which led to inefficient absorption of limited soil B by roots. The climatic conditions of Konkan like high humidity, high temperature and long sunshine hours also favored widespread incidence of B deficiency, low yield and poor quality.
