Geographical classification of honey samples by near-infrared spectroscopy: a feasibility study 总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3

The potential of near-infrared (NIR) spectroscopy to determine the geographical origin of honey samples was evaluated. In total, 167 unfiltered honey samples (88 Irish, 54 Mexican, and 25 Spanish) and 125 filtered honey samples (25 Irish, 25 Argentinean, 50 Czech, and 25 Hungarian) were collected. Spectra were recorded in transflectance mode. Following preliminary examination by principal component analysis (PCA), modeling methods applied to the spectral data set were partial least-squares (PLS) regression and soft independent modeling of class analogy (SIMCA); various pretreatments were investigated. For unfiltered honey, best SIMCA models gave correct classification rates of 95.5, 94.4, and 96% for the Irish, Mexican, and Spanish samples, respectively; PLS2 discriminant analysis produced a 100% correct classification for each of these honey classes. In the case of filtered honey, best SIMCA models produced correct classification rates of 91.7, 100, 100, and 96% for the Argentinean, Czech, Hungarian, and Irish samples, respectively, using the standard normal variate (SNV) data pretreatment. PLS2 discriminant analysis produced 96, 100, 100, and 100% correct classifications for the Argentinean, Czech, Hungarian, and Irish honey samples, respectively, using a second-derivative data pretreatment. Reduced trichostrongylid infection on herbage and in calves was obtained when first-season calves, grazing a common area of pasture, received low-dosage phenothiazine (PTZ) in two successive years. The average daily dose of PTZ was 7.0 or 10.3 mg kg-1 in the first year and, in the second, between 5.0 and 7.0 mg kg-1. The effect on herbage infection was attributed mainly to ovicidal action. Treatment increased weight gain by 22 and 50 to 60 per cent in the respective seasons. The results suggested a cumulative effect produced by treating calves of successive years. Two calves developed PTZ-induced photosensitivity (corneal opacity) in the first season, and two calves in the second season but in the latter, severe bronchopneumonia was believed to be a predisposing factor. To avoid photosensitivity and still maintain adequate drug activity, the daily intake of PTZ should probably be restricted to around 6 mg kg-1. 相似文献

The concentrations of the hydrogen radicals OH and HO2 in the middle and upper troposphere were measured simultaneously with those of NO, O3, CO, H2O, CH4, non-methane hydrocarbons, and with the ultraviolet and visible radiation field. The data allow a direct examination of the processes that produce O3 in this region of the atmosphere. Comparison of the measured concentrations of OH and HO2 with calculations based on their production from water vapor, ozone, and methane demonstrate that these sources are insufficient to explain the observed radical concentrations in the upper troposphere. The photolysis of carbonyl and peroxide compounds transported to this region from the lower troposphere may provide the source of HOx required to sustain the measured abundances of these radical species. The mechanism by which NO affects the production of O3 is also illustrated by the measurements. In the upper tropospheric air masses sampled, the production rate for ozone (determined from the measured concentrations of HO2 and NO) is calculated to be about 1 part per billion by volume each day. This production rate is faster than previously thought and implies that anthropogenic activities that add NO to the upper troposphere, such as biomass burning and aviation, will lead to production of more O3 than expected. 相似文献

Copper and gold artifacts in contexts dated to approximately 3120 to 3020 carbon-14 years before the present ( approximately 1410 to 1090 calendar years B.C.) recovered in excavations at Mina Perdida, Lurin Valley, Peru, show that artisans hammered native metals into thin foils, in some cases with intermediate anneals. They gilded copper artifacts by attaching gold foil. The artifacts show that fundamental elements of the Andean metallurgical tradition were developed before the Chavin horizon, and that on the Peruvian coast the working of native copper preceded the production of smelted copper objects. 相似文献

Real-time information on salinity levels and transport of fertilizers are generally missing from soil profile knowledge bases.
A dual-frequency multisensor capacitance probe (MCP) is now commercially available, for sandy soils, to simultaneously monitor
volumetric soil water content (VWC) measured as a percentage and salinity as a unitless volumetric ion content (VIC). The
objectives of this research were to assess the relationship of salinity and water content with these dual-frequency MCPs under
laboratory conditions, and assess its potential for field use in sandy soils of the mid-Atlantic region of the US. Water and
salinity studies were conducted in two sand-filled PVC columns, 1.2 m long by 0.25 m ID. Each column was instrumented with
ten dual-frequency capacitance sensors and two thermocouple temperature sensors. Four salinity levels were studied in the
two columns using 0.5, 1, 2, and 4 dSm−1 NH4NO3 solutions. Water, salinity, and temperature readings were continuously recorded at 1-min intervals. The VIC values were found
to be primarily qualitative, but combined with real-time VWC measures the probe could still be an important fertigation management
tool to provide near-continuous real-time information on fertilizer penetration, spread and subsequent changes during crop
growth.
