Common carp Cyprinus carpio occurs in several non‐native areas worldwide, where it is generally regarded as either naturalised or invasive. Anatolia (Turkey) represents a unique region for evaluating common carp growth, due both to its location at the southernmost range of expansion of the species' wild form and to most of its water bodies having been stocked with domesticated strains. Based on a review of length‐at‐age data for common carp stocks from 45 water bodies sampled between 1953 and 2007, regional patterns in growth across climates, water body types, scalation variants and sexes, along with altitudinal gradients in growth performance and mortality, were investigated. Growth rates were lower in cold and arid relative to temperate climates, and also under hot or dry summers; this was true also of the mirror relative to the scale variant, males to females, but not of water body types (i.e., man‐made reservoirs, natural lakes, water courses). Growth performance and mortality decreased with increasing altitude and decreasing temperature, likely due to optimisation of resource allocation between growth and reproduction. Growth rate of common carp from Anatolia was consistently lower compared to its native (Eurasian) and, especially, invasive (North American) counterparts, which reflected an opportunistic life‐history strategy. Lower growth rates in Anatolia were ascribed to lower resilience of the widespread mirror variant together with limited habitat for spawning in man‐made reservoirs. Better knowledge of common carp growth in Anatolia will improve stock management and conservation efforts. Further studies will help clarify the mechanisms responsible for evolutionary genotype–phenotype inter‐relationships.  相似文献

The objective of this study was to assess the effect of environmental variability on the dynamics of the Atlantic mackerel (Scomber scombrus L.) stock in the Gulf of St. Lawrence (GSL). We first described the dominant modes of physical and biological (zooplankton) variability using Principal Components Analyses of 40 variables. Two principal modes of variability were identified, a long‐term mode (15–20 yr) associated with a warming of the GSL and a second mode describing alternating cold and warm periods at a higher frequency (5–10 yr). A strong link between physical forcing and the dynamics of zooplankton species known to be important for mackerel was shown. Second, a set of Generalized Additive Models (GAM) was developed to explore how these environmental variations could influence mackerel condition (Fulton's K) and recruitment success (Rs). Optimal GAMs including variations in abundance, species composition and phenology of key copepods improved model performance by 40–50% relative to those considering only physical environmental conditions. The results are consistent with the match–mismatch hypothesis and illustrate the key role of zooplankton dynamics in modulating variations in mackerel K and Rs. Finally, this study showed that large variations in Rs could be caused by varying environmental conditions independently of the influence of stock biomass. Our results strongly indicate that the effect of environmental variability should be considered in the implementation of an ecosystem‐based approach to Atlantic mackerel stock management.  相似文献

Evaluation of vegetable oils and poultry fat digestibility is the first step to elicit their use in aquafeeds. This work aimed at determining apparent digestibility coefficients (ADCs) of energy, lipids and fatty acids of oil sources for pacu, a widely farmed neotropical Characin. A semipurified, omnivorous fish diet (344.2 g kg?1 crude protein; 18.16 MJ kg?1 gross energy) was used as reference diet. Test diets were obtained by adding 2 g kg?1 chromium III oxide and replacing 15 g kg?1 reference diet with fish, soybean, colza, corn and flaxseed oils and poultry fat. Juvenile pacu (64 ± 10.8 g; 14.6 ± 1.1 cm) were fed to apparent satiety, four times a day, and then transferred to cylindrical–conical aquaria for collection of faeces by sedimentation (n = 3). Apparent digestibility coefficients of energy and lipids were high for all tested oils (> 0.05); ADCs of saturated fatty acid (SFA) were lower than monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFA) and polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA). Essential fatty acids (18:2n‐6 and 18:3n‐3) had high ADC (>93%), colza oil and poultry fat yielding the lowest ADC for 18:2n‐6 (= 0.01) and 18:3n‐3 (< 0.01), respectively. Corn oil, soybean oil and flaxseed oil were interesting sources of 18:2n‐6 and 18:3n‐3 dietary fatty acids for pacu.  相似文献

Ulvan is an algal polysaccharide known for its ability to induce resistance to plant diseases such as the Glomerella leaf spot of apple caused by Colletotrichum gloeosporiodes. This study was aimed at investigating microscopically, in tests in vitro and in vivo, whether ulvan interferes in the development of pre-infective structures of C. gloeosporioides. Conidial germination and appressoria formation were monitored hourly on agar and cellophane, and at 48 h on water- and ulvan-treated susceptible as well as resistant apple leaves. Amendment of agar with ulvan (10 mg ml?1) enhanced the germination and resulted in longer germ tubes at 7 h of incubation. On cellophane it significantly delayed appressoria formation up to 8 h, but later after 14 h increased the number of appressoria per conidium. Spraying of susceptible leaves with ulvan 6 days before inoculation decreased disease severity by 50%. This was associated with inhibition of appressoria formation and stimulus in growth of germ tubes, without interfering with conidial germination, when compared with both water-treated control and resistant plants. Appressorium formation occurred preferentially on anticlinal walls of epidermal cells and its location was not influenced by host resistance or by ulvan treatment. This study suggests a new mode of action for ulvan interfering with appressorium formation that could protect apple plants against C. gloeosporioides infection.  相似文献

The effects of Isaria farinosa (Holm.) and Beauveria bassiana (Balsamo) on adult stages of sunn pests Eurygaster integriceps Puton and Eurygaster austriaca (Schrk.) were investigated at 27±1°C, 95% r.h. and 16L:8D in the laboratory. Two concentrations, 1×106 and 1×108 conidia ml-1, were used. Mortality of inoculated and non-inoculated adults was counted at 6, 9 and 12 days after treatment. Beauveria bassiana caused higher mortality of both species than I. farinosa. Neither caused significantly high mortality at 1×106 conidia ml-1. Both were more pathogenic at 1×108 conidia ml-1 and caused more than 85% mortality 12 days post treatment. Both were more pathogenic to E. austriaca.  相似文献

Alternative hosts are an important way of phytopathogenic bacteria survival between crop seasons, constituting a source of inoculum for the following crops. Bacterial wilt, caused by Curtobacterium flaccumfaciens pv. flaccumfaciens (Cff), is one of the most important diseases for common bean, and little information is available about the host range of the bacterium. In this study, we assessed possible alternative hosts for Cff, especially those cultivated during winter, in rotation systems with common bean. Plants of barley, black oat, canola, radish, ryegrass, wheat and white oat, were assessed under field and greenhouse conditions. Cff colonized epiphytically all plant species and endophytically black oat, ryegrass, wheat and white oat plants assessed in the greenhouse assays. Under field conditions, Cff colonized all plant species by except radish. All bacterial strains re-isolated from the plants were pathogenic to common bean and identified as Cff by PCR with specific primers. Based on our results, the cultivation of bean crop in succession with barley, black oat, canola, ryegrass, wheat and white oat should not be recommended, mainly in areas with a history of bacterial wilt occurrence. In these cases, the better option for crop rotation during the winter is radish, a non-alternative host for Cff.  相似文献

1. The aim was to determine the importance of a contaminated diet as a possible cause of Campylobacter jejuni infection in broilers.

2. This study evaluated the viability of C. jejuni in both starter and finisher diets and the interference from other mesophilic bacteria in this viability.

3. Starter and finisher samples of broiler diet were deliberately contaminated with 3 or 5 log CFU·g?1 of C. jejuni (NCTC 11351) and then maintained at two different storage temperatures (25°C or 37°C) for 3 or 5 d.

4. C. jejuni survived during this period and, when inoculated at 103 CFU·g?1, multiplied with greater proliferation at a storage temperature of 37°C. There was no relationship between the amount of mesophilic bacteria and C. jejuni viability.
