Sustainable sunflower yield is under threat by a significant rise in global temperatures. Therefore, the development of a heat-resistant sunflower breeding population or hybrid is important for sustainable yield under high temperatures. Although there are a significant number of studies aimed at understanding the mechanism of heat resistance, only few direct approaches were made to improve heat resistance in sunflower. When breeding for heat resistance, the selection criteria are important. A desirable screening criterion should be rapid, highly heritable, and allow for the discrimination of resistant and susceptible ecotypes before reproductive maturity so that undesirable plants can be eliminated. In contrast, destructive selection criteria are not applicable for a segregating population. On the basis of an extensive review of data and experimentation, traits such as leaf and head orientation at the time of anthesis are proposed for practical utilization of sunflower heat-resistant breeding. These traits could be utilized as markers linked with heat avoidance. The traits are simply inherited, non-destructive, non-laborious, and show no impact of the environment and are independent of genotype × environment.  相似文献

Zinc application is generally recommended to enrich wheat grains with Zn; however, its influence on Zn bioavailability to humans has not received appreciable attention from scientists. In this pot experiment, seven Zn rates (from 0 to 18 mg kg?1 soil) were applied to two wheat cultivars (Shafaq-2006 and Auqab-2000). Application of Zn significantly increased grain yield, grain Zn concentration and estimated Zn bioavailability, and significantly decreased grain phytate concentration and [phytate]:[Zn] ratio in wheat grains. The response of grain yield to Zn application was quadratic, whereas maximum grain yield was estimated to be achieved at 10.8 mg Zn kg?1 soil for Shafaq-2006 and 7.4 mg Zn kg?1 soil for Auqab-2000. These estimated Zn rates were suitable for increasing grain Zn concentration and Zn bioavailability (>2.9 mg Zn in 300 g grains) to optimum levels required for better human nutrition. Conclusively, Zn fertilization for Zn biofortification may be practiced on the bases of response curve studies aimed at maximizing grain yield and optimum Zn bioavailability. Moreover, additive Zn application progressively reduced the grain Fe concentration and increased the grain [phytate]:[Fe] ratio. However, a medium Zn application rate increased grain Ca concentration and decreased the grain [phytate]:[Ca] ratio. Hence, rate of Zn application for mineral biofortification needs to be carefully selected.  相似文献

Bovine tuberculosis (BTB), a chronic disease caused by Mycobacterium bovis, has been widely reported in bovines in developing countries, but there is little information on this infection in domestic yaks. Seroprevalence of antibodies to M. bovis in yaks from six and three regions of Tibet and Qinghai plateau, China, respectively, was investigated in 2011 by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay kits. A total of 1,244 (Tibet 938, Qinghai 306) blood samples was collected and the results showed that 24 (2.6 %) of Tibetan samples and 3 (1 %) of Qinghai's samples were positive for BTB. The findings of the present study indicated that M. bovis infection is prevalent in Chinese yaks in Qinghai and Tibet. These observations should raise a serious public health concern considering the extent to which the herdsmen of the study areas are in contact with their animals and the levels at which they use untreated livestock products. This is the first study showing the infection of M. bovis in domestic yaks.  相似文献

Influence of − 11, + 11, + 22 and + 33 mEq/100 g dry matter (DM) of dietary cation anion difference (DCAD) on dry matter intake (DMI), serum concentration of minerals and milk yield and its composition by early lactating Nili Ravi buffaloes was examined in a randomized complete block design during summer. Four iso-energetic and iso-nitrogenous DCAD diets were randomly allotted to four groups, five buffaloes in each group. A linear increase in DMI and water intakes was recorded with increasing the DCAD concentration. Greater nitrogen balance was noticed in buffaloes fed diets containing + 22 and + 33 mEq/100 g DM DCAD than those fed − 11 and + 11 mEq/100 g DM DCAD concentrations. Blood pH and HCO3 concentration increased linearly with increasing DCAD concentrations. Serum chloride concentration was greater with − 11 mEq/100 g DM DCAD concentration, while serum cation anion difference increased linearly with increasing the DCAD concentration. Serum calcium concentration increased significantly with decreasing the DCAD concentration while serum magnesium and phosphorus concentrations remained unaffected. Buffaloes fed − 11 DCAD had higher calcium and chloride balance than those fed + 11, + 22 and + 33 DCAD. Phosphorus, sodium and potassium balance increased in buffaloes fed high (+ 22 and + 33) DCAD. Urine pH was increased significantly with increasing DCAD concentration. Milk yield and milk fat percentage increased linearly with DCAD concentration, whereas milk protein and lactose content were not affected. Increasing DCAD from − 11 to + 33 mEq/100 g DM increased DMI, water intake, milk yield and milk fat content in early lactating buffaloes during summer.  相似文献

The study was conducted to examine the influence of diets containing − 110, + 110, + 220 and + 330 mEq/kg dry matter (DM) of dietary cation anion difference (DCAD) on serum minerals, minerals balance (Na, K, Cl, S, Ca, Mg and P) and hypocalcemia in prepartum Nili Ravi buffaloes in a randomized complete block design during summer. Four DCAD diets were randomly allotted to four groups, five buffaloes in each group. A linear increase in nutrients intake was recorded with increasing the DCAD level. Buffaloes fed − 110 DCAD diet had higher nutrients digestibilities than those fed + 110, + 220 and + 330 DCAD. Blood pH and serum HCO3 also increased linearly with increasing DCAD level. Serum Cl was high in buffaloes fed the − 110 DCAD diet, while serum cation anion difference increased linearly with increasing the DCAD level. Serum Ca increased with decreasing the DCAD level while serum Mg, P and S remained unaffected. Urine pH increased with increasing DCAD level. A constant increase in urinary excretion of Ca, Mg, P and Cl was observed with decreasing the DCAD level. Buffaloes fed − 110 DCAD diet had increased Ca and Cl balance while Mg, P and S balance remained unaltered due to DCAD alteration. Not a single case of hypocalcemia was observed in buffaloes fed − 110 and + 110 DCAD diets. However, one buffalo from each group fed + 220 and + 330 DCAD diets had hypocalcemia. This study indicated that − 110 and + 110 DCAD diets not only increased calcium balance but also prevented hypocalcemia in Nili ravi buffaloes.  相似文献

The objectives of the experiment were to determine the effect of two doses of equine chorionic gonadotropin (eCG) in a standard synchronization protocol based on a short-term progesterone (P4) priming on ovarian structures and haemodynamics, concentrations of steroid hormones and prolificacy rate when oestrus was induced during low-breeding season (LBS) in Beetal dairy goats. We hypothesized that inclusion of eCG in a short-term P4 priming-based synchronization protocol would increase the blood perfusion to ovarian structures leading to enhance oestrous and ovulatory responses and prolificacy rate in goats. Forty-two multiparous acyclic goats were blocked by body condition and, within block, assigned randomly to receive saline as control (CON), low eCG (L-eCG; 300 IU) or high eCG (H-eCG; 600 IU) dose. Initially, a controlled internal drug release (CIDR) device was placed in the anterior vagina on d −8, followed by removal of CIDR on d −3, concurrent with the administration of PGF and eCG according to their respective treatments. Goats were monitored for oestrous response. B-mode and Doppler ultrasonography was performed with 12-h interval, starting from day −3 until natural breeding (day 0), and then on days 5, 10, 15 and 20 post-breeding to monitor follicular and luteal dynamics and blood flow, respectively. Blood was sampled at 0, 12, 24, 36 and 60 h after CIDR removal to quantify plasma concentrations of estradiol-17β (E2), whereas plasma concentrations of P4 were assayed at days 5, 10, 15 and 20 after breeding. Pregnancy and prolificacy rates were determined at day 30 and 150 after breeding, respectively. Data were analysed with mixed-effects models, and orthogonal contrasts were used to evaluate the effect of treatment [Con vs. (½ L-eCG + ½ H-eCG)] and dose of eCG (L-eCG vs. H-eCG). Data are presented in sequence as CON, L-eCG, H-eCG (LSM ± SEM). The oestrous intensity score (152.9 vs. 182.7 vs. 186.5 ± 15.1; p = .02) was greater in eCG-treated goats as compared to CON. Administration of eCG reduced the intervals to standing oestrus (66.2 vs. 41.8 vs. 48.9 h ± 5.5; p = .05), breeding (70.2 vs. 44.4 vs. 45.4 h ± 4.5; p = .03) and ovulation (84.5 vs. 61.2 vs. 63.4 h ± 6.2; p = .05) compared with CON goats. The mean growth rate of pre-ovulatory follicle was greater (1.11 vs. 1.49 vs. 1.45 mm ± 0.08; p = .01) in eCG-treated goats resulting in an increased diameter of pre-ovulatory follicle (6.27 vs. 7.20 vs. 7.31 mm ± 0.07; p < .01) and corpora lutea (6.75 vs. 8.26 vs. 8.07 mm ± 0.42; p = .04) than CON. The mean follicular blood flow did not differ among treatments; however, the mean luteal blood flow was greater in L-eCG-treated goats (0.81 vs. 1.61 vs. 1.07 cm2 ± 0.12; p = .001). The mean concentrations of E2 (4.03 vs. 5.21 vs. 4.78 pg/ml ± 0.42; p = .04) and P4 (4.85 vs. 6.39 vs. 6.22 ng/ml ± 0.34; p = .04) were greater in eCG-treated goats. The twinning rate did not differ between treatments; nevertheless, prolificacy rate was greater (p = .04) in L-eCG-treated goats. Collectively, our data suggest that the administration of eCG improves the induction of oestrous and ovarian dynamics. Administration of L-eCG enhances prolificacy rate, therefore, a low dose of eCG might be practically beneficial to improve reproduction during LBS in acyclic Beetal dairy goats.  相似文献

Soybean is known to be intolerant of waterlogged conditions. Flooding stress usually affects the crop via poor and retorted root development. The current study aimed to isolate indole acetic acid (IAA)-producing bacteria with potential to induce adventitious root growth and counteract flooding stress. The isolate AY-13 was identified as Klebsiella variicola using 16S DNA sequencing and phylogenetic analysis. A pure culture of AY-13 Klebsiella variicola was subjected to chromatography and mass spectrometry selected-ion monitoring (GC-MS/SIM) for IAA quantification. The results revealed the presence of (84.27±3.55 μg/mL) IAA in the AY-13 culture. The strain AY-13 was able to induce adventitious root initiation. Therefore, soybean seedlings were inoculated with AY-13 to examine its potential for promoting growth and reprograming after flooding stress. AY-13 application not only mitigated the flooding stress, but also significantly improved the plants’ growth, enhanced chlorophyll contents, and improved the quantum efficiency of chlorophyll fluorescence during and after flooding stress. Our findings were that AY-13 possesses great potential for mitigating flooding stress and improving soybean plant growth.  相似文献

Large-scale crop monocultures facilitate the proliferation and increasing prevalence of diseases and pest insects. Many studies highlight the impacts of plant diversification upon pathogens, and the population dynamics of insects and beneficial organism in agricultural ecosystems. These studies provide evidence that habitat manipulation techniques such as intercropping, relay, and rotation can significantly improve disease and pest management. This review introduces the concept of crop diversity, considers recent insights and mechanisms underlying crop diversity, and discusses its potential for improving sustainable agricultural practices. Recently, the phytobiomes resulting from increased crop diversity are increasingly recognized for their contribution to disease and pest control. Further, understanding the interactions between pathogens or pests with their host phytobiome may lead to novel options for the prevention of pests. Recent advances in the agricultural systems include:(i) a better understanding of the mechanisms of interactions between crop species and genotypes;(ii) ecological progress including a better understanding of the context-dependency of those interactions; and(iii) the role of microtopographic variation in agricultural systems for priming basal resistance to multiple pests and pathogens by intercropped crops. We also highlight recent progress in China and the potential options for habitat management and design that enhance the ecological role of biodiversity in agroecosystems.  相似文献
