Fruit pomace, a byproduct of the fruit juice industry, is a rich source of nutrients and bioactive components. The study explored chemical composition and bioactive potential of pomace from selected fruits. Results revealed that fruit pomace was rich in dietary fiber (insoluble fiber: 24.15–31.83%; soluble fiber: 0.43–19.71%). Both orange and sweet lemon pomace were good sources of calcium (303 mg/100 g and 581 mg/100 g). Extract yield was high in blue grapes (45.88 mg/100 g). Free radical scavenging activity was highest in blue grape pomace in methanol and aqueous extracts (78.88% and 85.99% per 4-mg extract), respectively. Experimental investigations have been carried out to modify the surface properties of natural Kanchipuram silk (pattu) fibers using a low temperature DC glow discharge air Plasma. Silk is an externally spun fibrous protein secretion formed into fibers. Plasma treatment is an eco-friendly, dry, and clean process over wet chemical method and does not suffer from any environmental and health concerns. Experiments have been performed considering three parameters such as discharge current, treatment time, and working pressure. The structural, thermal, morphological, optical, and mechanical studies of raw and plasma treated silk fibers have been obtained out using attenuated total reflection-Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (ATR-FTIR) spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction (XRD), thermo gravimetric analyzer (TGA), scanning electron microscope (SEM) with energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), diffuse absorbance spectroscopy, and tensile test. A comparative study has been done for the untreated and different treated fibers. Various characterization analyses reveal that surface roughness of the plasma treated silk fiber is increased and also crystallite size of treated samples is enhanced, plasma treated silk fibers maintain the whiteness effect and it is observed that UV transmittance region (A & B) is more for the treated fiber which signifies enhanced UV protection. 相似文献

An experimental trial was conducted for 90 days to evaluate the growth performance, immunophysiological response of GIFT strain of Tilapia in biofloc‐based rearing system and to assess the relative percentage survival in 3 days after challenging with the virulent strain of Aeromonas hydrophila. Fingerlings with an average body weight 0.98 ± 0.06 g were stocked in triplicate at different stocking densities of 200 (SD1), 250 (SD2), 300 (SD3) and 350 (SD4) m?3 in biofloc‐based treatments and 150 (C) m?3 in control (clear water). Biofloc‐based units (SD1 and SD2) obtained significantly better (P < 0.05) growth performances at the end of the experimental period. Mean body weight of fish in biofloc‐based units showed a decreasing trend with increase in stocking density with 100% survival in all units including control. The stress parameters were significantly lower in biofloc‐based rearing units especially in treatments SD1 and SD2 as compared to the control. The fish from the biofloc‐based units (SD1 and SD2) possessed significantly (P < 0.05) higher immune status as compared to control and other biofloc treatments in terms of respiratory burst, serum lysozyme and myeloperoxidase activity. Relative survival percentages were significantly better in biofloc treatments with highest in SD1 and SD2 (83.33%) after challenge study. GIFT strain of Tilapia at higher stocking densities 200–250 nos m?3 can be taken as optimum stocking density whereas higher stocking densities up to 350 nos m?3 can be reared in the biofloc systems without compromising the growth and immunity. 相似文献

An attempt was undertaken to investigate the efficacy of Ovsynch protocol for timed artificial insemination (TAI) with or without Norprolac (antiprolactin) treatment during non‐breeding season (winter months) in yaks (n = 25). During non‐breeding season, plasma prolactin profile has been reported high due to cold and nutritional stress. The Norprolac dose of i.m. administration was standardized for prolactin suppression. Three different doses viz. 2.5, 5.0 and 7.5 mg were attempted and the dose of 7.5 mg Norprolac i.m. per animal was found to be suitable for suppression of prolactin levels up to 30 h. Ovsynch treatment with Norprolac induced more number of oestrous symptoms per animal (4.8 vs 2.1), higher LH peak concentration (24.01 vs 16.16 ng/ml), longer duration of LH surge (6.8 vs 5.2 h) and higher conception rate (70 vs 30%) in Ovsynch plus Norprolac treated animals compared with animals treated with Ovsynch alone. Therefore, this study clearly indicates the opportunity for practical application of the Ovsynch plus Norprolac protocol for TAI in yaks during non‐breeding seasons. 相似文献

Delayed pubertal development and low fertility of Bos indicus x Bos taurus crossbred male cattle and domestic buffaloes is hardly understood hence, a sensitive enzymeimmunoassay (EIA) was developed
using the second antibody-coating technique and testosterone-3-O-carboxymethyloxime-horseradish peroxidase conjugate as a
label for determination of testosterone in blood plasma. The EIA was validated by standard criteria. Blood samples were collected
by venipuncture from growing male cattle (Karan Fries and Sahiwal) and buffalo (Murrah) and testosterone was estimated using
the EIA procedure. Plasma testosterone concentrations increased significantly (P < 0.05) with advancing age. Testosterone concentrations were significantly (P < 0.01) higher in Sahiwal males in comparison to Karan Fries males. The low testosterone levels in crossbred than Sahiwal
could imply that crossbred males have either not stabilized genetically or not adapted well in Indian climatic conditions
resulting in poor libido and poor semen quality. The low testosterone levels in Murrah buffalo males may be the possible reason
for delayed maturity in this species. The direct, sensitive EIA validated for estimating the plasma testosterone concentration
was reliable for studying the testosterone profile in blood plasma of males. The results suggest that there could be a requirement

The aim of the study was to investigate the effect of feeding different diets on fermentation, enzyme activities and microbial population in the rumen fluid of mithun (Bos frontalis). In a randomized block design, 20 male mithun (6–8 months of age, 152 ± 12.6 kg body weight) were randomly divided into four experimental groups (n = 5/group) and fed experimental diets ad libitum for 180 days. The diet R1 contained tree foliages (TF), R2 comprised of 50% concentrate mixture (CM) and 50% TF, R3 contained 50% CM and 50% rice straw, and R4 contained 50% CM, 25% TF and 25% rice straw. Rumen liquor was collected at 0 and 180 days of the experiment for estimation of different ruminal parameters and a digestion trial was conducted at the end of the experiment. Rumen fluid was analysed for pH, ammonia nitrogen (NH3‐N), total‐N, ruminal enzymes, short chain fatty acid (SCFA) and microbial profile. The relative quantification of ruminal microbes was carried out with real‐time PCR using bacteria as the house keeping gene. The dry matter intake, nutrients digestibility, body weight gain, NH3‐N, total‐N, carboxymethyl cellulase, avicelase, xylanase, amylase, protease and molar proportion of butyrate were (p < 0.05) higher in mithun fed R2, R3 and R4 compared to those fed R1 diet. In contrast, increased (p < 0.05) ruminal pH, molar proportion of acetate and, acetate to propionate ratio was recorded in mithun fed only TF than those fed concentrate supplemented diets. Similarly, an increase (p < 0.05) in the population of Fibrobacter succinogenes, Ruminococcus flavefaciens and total bacteria were evident in mithun fed R2, R3 and R4 compared to those fed R1. Therefore, it is concluded that TF 25% and/or rice straw 25% along with CM 50% may be fed to the growing mithun for improved rumen ecology, nutrient utilization and thus better performance under stall fed system. 相似文献
