Changes in growth, leaf contents of proline, oxidative stress-related parameters, and phenolic compounds, and antioxidant activities were investigated in the halophyte species Sesuvium portulacastrum L. under saline conditions. Rooted cuttings were individually cultivated in sandy soil. After five weeks of pre-treatment, seedlings were submitted during one month to different salt concentrations ranging from 0 to 800?mM NaCl. The plant growth was significantly improved by salt at 200–600?mM concentration. This trend was associated with (i) the stimulation of photosynthetic activity, (ii) the protection of membrane integrity (leaf MDA content 50% lower than the control), and (iii) higher total antioxidant activity, especially at 400?mM NaCl. At this salt concentration plants accumulated high contents of proline, polyphenols, antocyanins, and carotenoids. These compounds could be implied in the protection of the photosynthetic system and in the improvement of growth. Exposure to 800?mM NaCl impaired significantly photosynthesis, proline, polyphenol, antocyanin, and carotenoid accumulation. Yet, the strong antiradical activity (DPPH) observed at this extreme salinity might partly explain the plant survival. S. portulacastrum could be used in the rehabilitation and the stabilisation of saline or saline arid land. Additionally, under saline conditions, S. portulacastrum accumulate a large amount of proline and exhibits important antioxidant potentialities.  相似文献

The field of semiconductor spintronics explores spin-related quantum relativistic phenomena in solid-state systems. Spin transistors and spin Hall effects have been two separate leading directions of research in this field. We have combined the two directions by realizing an all-semiconductor spin Hall effect transistor. The device uses diffusive transport and operates without electrical current in the active part of the transistor. We demonstrate a spin AND logic function in a semiconductor channel with two gates. Our study shows the utility of the spin Hall effect in a microelectronic device geometry, realizes the spin transistor with electrical detection directly along the gated semiconductor channel, and provides an experimental tool for exploring spin Hall and spin precession phenomena in an electrically tunable semiconductor layer.  相似文献

Worldwide forests fragmentation has lead to a massive increase of habitat edges, creating both negative and positive impacts on birds. While busy highways dissecting forested areas create edges which are known to reduce bird densities due to the disturbing effect of noise, the impacts of logging forest roads with low traffic volumes have rarely been studied. In this study, we compared species richness and similarity of canopy, cavity and shrub guilds of birds along low-traffic forest roads, in forest interior, and at forest edges in secondary forests in central Europe, where the forests have passed through extensive changes toward uniformly compact growths dominated by production conifers. Although we found tree diversity as positively affecting bird richness across all habitats, the bird richness along forest roads was higher than in forest interior but lower than along forest edges. The shrub guild of birds along forest roads resembled this guild along forest edges while canopy and cavity guilds at the roads were more similar to these guilds in forest interior. Forest interior had the highest probability for some guild to be absent. We conclude that low-traffic roads lead to increase of habitat heterogeneity in structurally poor forests and attract birds due to additional habitat attributes—including better light conditions—that are scarce in forest interior. Therefore, broader support for higher structural diversification of uniform plantations in central European production forests would benefit bird communities inhabiting these areas.  相似文献

An online accumulation/mobilization preconcentration technique based on a dynamic pH junction technique and electrokinetic injection was employed for analysis of phenolic acids (sinapic, ferulic, coumarinic, caffeic, syringic, vanillic, and 4-hydroxybenzoic acid) in extracts from Majorana hortensis leaves. Samples were extracted by pressurized solvent extraction with acetone at 150 degrees C and 15 MPa. The capillary electrophoretic method employed 50 mmol.L (-1) sodium borate, pH 9.5, as the sample electrolyte, 50 mmol.L (-1) sodium phosphate, pH 2.5, as the background electrolyte, and 50 mmol.L (-1) sodium phosphate, pH 2.5, with 60 mmol.L (-1) sodium dodecyl sulfate as the mobilization electrolyte. The method allowed 720-fold to 5560-fold preconcentration of the phenolic acids during 30 min of electrokinetic accumulation with detection limits from 0.38 to 4.22 ng.mL (-1).  相似文献

Effects of different crating periods on selected biochemical indices were monitored in a group of unsexed ROSS 308 broiler chickens aged 42 days. 120 randomly selected chickens were weighted and placed in 15 heavy duty plastic crates with reduction in floor space approx. 160 cm2/kg of body weight of broilers (average body weight was 2.75 kg). Five crates were kept for 4 hours (Group 4h), another five crates for 8 hours (Group 8 h) and another five crates for 12 hours (Group 12h). After tested periods of crating the broilers were released and blood samples were withdrawn from Vena bosilico in 24 randomly selected birds from each group (Groups 4 h, 8 h, 12 h respectively) and also in other 24 randomly selected non-crated control birds. The results of our experiment proved that duration of crating significantly influenced the stress response in broiler chickens. The duration of crating period was positively correlated with the plasma corticosterone level and negatively correlated with the lactate dehydrogenase, cholesterol, triglycerides, glucose and lactate levels in the blood of broiler chickens.  相似文献

The feeding success of sand flies (Diptera: Phlebotominae) is linked to the vast array of pharmacological substances in their saliva, which interferes with the host haemostasis and immune response. Modification of feeding site plays also an important role in Leishmania transmission. In naive hosts, co-inoculation of saliva and Leishmania parasites increases the chance of successful transmission. Disease exacerbation seems to be associated with enhanced production of type 2 cytokines and selective inhibition of some macrophage functions including the production of NO and H202. On the other hand, hosts repeatedly exposed to sand fly bites develop anti-saliva immune response that results in a protection against Leishmania infection. This led to a new interesting approach to anti-Leishmania vaccine--using salivary components to block parasite transmission. The review is therefore focused on the interactions that run between immunomodulatory molecules in sand fly saliva and host immune response, with the impact on Leishmania infection development. Recent studies revealed that saliva-based vaccine for leishmaniasis might be effective and feasible, however, several questions still require to be solved. The knowledge based on experimental mouse model cannot be fully extrapolated to dogs or humans and due to differences in salivary antigens between sand fly species the protective effect is species-specific. On the other hand, the specificity of salivary antigens enables the use of anti-saliva antibodies for monitoring the exposure of hosts to sand fly bites and might be used as a marker of risks for Leishmania transmission in endemic areas.  相似文献

In the perspective of animal protection and welfare, the most common and potentially the most frightening events encountered by the domestic fowl are procedures connected with transport. This study provides an evidence that reduction in floor space during crating, which is approximately 10% above requirements given to EEC Directives (accompanied with mixed social and heat stress due to high animal density), induces markedly elevated stress in broilers which is manifested by changes in haematological indices. The experiment was performed on ROSS 308 broilers (total number 70, mean body weight 3.05 kg). At 42 days of age, the broilers were crated for 2-hours either with reduction in floor space to 115 cm2/kg (S115) or 105 cm2/kg (S105) of body weight. The total erythrocyte and leukocyte count, haematocrit, haemoglobin, MCV (mean cell value), MCH (mean cell haemoglobin) and MCHC (mean cell haemoglobin concentration) values were monitored and differential leukocyte count was assessed 20 h following crating. When compared with uncrated control, S105 broilers exhibited highly significant increase in haemoglobin level, MCH and MCHC values, significant increase in MCV values and significant decrease in total erythrocyte count. S115 broilers did not manifest any significant changes in haematological parameters compared with control. When compared with S115 broilers, S105 broilers manifested significantly elevated haemoglobin level and MCV values, highly significantly elevated MCH and MCHC values and depressed erythrocyte count. It follows from results that the reduction in floor space to 115 cm2/kg for 2 hours did not induce any significant changes in both total and differential leukocyte counts in blood of broilers when compared with control chickens. However, reduction in floor space to 105 cm2/kg resulted in highly significant increase in heterophil counts and subsequently also HLR (heterophil/lymphocyte ratio) was significantly elevated. When compared S105 and S115 broilers, mean values of heterophil counts and HLR ratio were higher due to reduction in floor space to 105 cm2/kg. The differences, however, were not statistically significant.  相似文献
