Euplotin C is a sesquiterpene of marine origin endowed with significant anti-microbial and anti-tumor properties. Despite the promising functional profile, its progress as a novel drug candidate has failed so far, due to its scarce solubility and poor stability in aqueous media, such as biological fluids. Therefore, overcoming these limits is an intriguing challenge for the scientific community. In this work, we synthesized β-cyclodextrin-based nanosponges and investigated their use as colloidal carriers for stably complex euplotin C. Results obtained proved the ability of the carrier to include the natural compound, showing remarkable values of both loading efficiency and capacity. Moreover, it also allowed us to preserve the chemical structure of the loaded compound, which was recovered unaltered once extracted from the complex. Therefore, the use of β-cyclodextrin-based nanosponges represents a viable option to vehiculate euplotin C, thus opening up its possible use as pharmacologically active compound.  相似文献

The aim of the present study was to test a constant blood withdrawal method (CBWM) to collect blood samples from horses during treadmill exercise. CBWM was performed in 4 Standardbreds and 5 Haflinger horses. A peristaltic pump was used to control blood aspiration from an i.v. catheter via an extension line. Blood was collected using an automatic fractions collector, with a constant delay time between the drawing of blood and sample collection. Blood withdrawal using CBWM was made during a treadmill standardised exercise test (SET). A blood flow of 12 m/min was used and samples collected every 60 s during the entire period of exercise. The volume of blood collected in each sample tube was 12.1+/-0.2 ml, with a delay time of mean +/- s.d. 25.3+/-0.8 s. Plasma lactate kinetics based on measurement of lactate in each fraction showed an exponential increase during the first 13 min of exercise (10.5 min of SET and 2.5 min recovery). The peak plasma lactate concentration was observed between 2.5 and 5.5 min after the end of SET. CBWM permits the kinetics of lactate and other blood-borne variables to be studied over time. This method could be a valuable aid for use in studying equine exercise physiology.  相似文献

Aim of this study was to determine the content of bioactive phytochemicals in Capparis spinosa subsp. rupestris (syn. C. orientalis), a less investigated species of caper and compare the chemical profile of this species with that of other studied Capparis sp. and especially with the related cultigen C. spinosa subsp. spinosa. Chemical composition of seed oil and glucosinolates, as well as of glucosinolates and flavonoids from the aerial parts of the plant have been determined and data reported here. Oil from the plant seeds is rich in unsaturated and rare lipids such as cis-vaccenic acid; the main glucosinolate is glucocapperin. The aerial parts are characterized by rutin as the dominant flavonoid. The overall phytochemical data obtained from the analysis of C. spinosa subsp. rupestris indicate that this species represents a very rich source of bioactive compounds of nutraceutical relevance although the compositional profile does not differentiate this subspecies from C. spinosa subsp. spinosa.  相似文献

A new methodology based on pulsed lasers has been developed in order to estimate wheat outer layer mechanical properties without sample preparation. Laser experiments were carried out with an Argon Fluoride (λ = 193 nm) excimer laser source delivering pulses of 15 ns duration. Wheat grains from two cultivars were irradiated by single laser pulses with a quasi-uniform irradiation and two fluences (2.5 and 5 J cm−2). The ablation flux was characterized by environmental scanning electron microscopy before measuring the removed material on cross-sections observed by confocal scanning laser microscopy. Specific image treatment was carried out to obtain the ablation flux (amount of removed matter per pulse). Pericarp, seed coat and aleurone layer were gradually ablated under the laser conditions used in this work. Their ablation thresholds were different and could be related to tissue cohesion. Specific behaviour of seed coat layer (8 μm) could be emphasised with this technique. Pulsed laser ablation could be a potential methodology to reveal indirectly wheat grain layer cohesion.  相似文献

Productivity and resource-use efficiency in corn (Zea mays L.) are crucial issues in sustainable agriculture, especially in high-demand resource crops such as corn. The aims of this research were to compare irrigation scheduling and nitrogen fertilization rates in corn, evaluating yield, water (WUE), irrigation water (IRRWUE) and nitrogen use (NUE) efficiencies. A 2-year field experiment was carried out in a Mediterranean coastal area of Central Italy (175 mm of rainfall in the corn-growing period) and corn was subjected to three irrigation levels (rainfed and supply at 50 and 100% of crop evapotranspiration, ETc) in interaction with three nitrogen fertilization levels (not fertilized, 15 and 30 g (N) m−2). The results indicated a large yearly variability, mainly due to a rainfall event at the silking stage in the first year; a significant irrigation effect was observed for all the variables under study, except for plant population. Nitrogen rates affected grain yield plant−1 and ear−1, grain and biomass yield, HI, WUE, IRRWUE and NUE, with significant differences between non-fertilized and the two fertilized treatments (15 and 30 g (N) m−2). Furthermore, deficit irrigation (50% of ETc) was to a large degree equal to 100% of the ETc irrigation regime. A significant interaction “N × I” was observed for grain yield and WUE. The effect of nitrogen availability was amplified at the maximum irrigation water regime. The relationships between grain yield and evapotranspiration showed basal ET, the amount necessary to start producing grain, of about 63 mm in the first and 206 mm in the second year. Rainfed crop depleted most of the water in the 0–0.6 m soil depth range, while irrigated scenarios absorbed soil water within the profile to a depth of 1.0 m. Corn in a Mediterranean area can be cultivated with acceptable yields while saving irrigation water and reducing nitrogen supply and also exploiting the positive interaction between these two factors, so maximizing resource-use efficiency.  相似文献

Summary Over 7,600 durum wheat accessions belonging to 22 country gene pools were evaluated in Syria, during the seasons 1985–86 through 1987–88 under semi-arid Mediterranean climatic conditions. Data on seven agronomic traits are presented to assess the distinctiveness and the phenotypic diversity of these pools. Univariate statistical analysis revealed differences among materials of diverse origins for all traits. Mean phenotypic diversity within countries was highest in the germplasm from India, lowest in that from Bulgaria. In a canonical variate analysis, the first three canonical variables explained 77.7% of the total variance. A cluster analysis was performed to supplement the generated information by the canonical analysis. The multivariate analyses evidenced the distinctiveness of the Ethiopian germplasm. The gene pools from Syria and Jordan, closely resembling each other, appeared separate from all others. A certain peculiarity was also shown by the germplasms from Greece, Morocco and France, while the remaining countries clustered into four groups. The results of the present evaluation could provide useful information for breeding activities, germplasm collection, and establishment of core collections. Evidence is presented that environment played a major role in creating the overall variation for the considered traits, although germplasm exchange seemed also an important factor.  相似文献

Two hydrogen ordered phases of ice were prepared by cooling the hydrogen disordered ices V and XII under pressure. Previous attempts to unlock the geometrical frustration in hydrogen-bonded structures have focused on doping with potassium hydroxide and have had success in partially increasing the hydrogen ordering in hexagonal ice I (ice Ih). By doping ices V and XII with hydrochloric acid, we have prepared ice XIII and ice XIV, and we analyzed their structures by powder neutron diffraction. The use of hydrogen chloride to release geometrical frustration opens up the possibility of completing the phase diagram of ice.  相似文献

A study was conducted to evaluate a non-destructive method able to predict Magness–Taylor (MT) penetrometric firmness of blood oranges, potentially applicable for on-line selection. The method consisted of multivariate modelling of non-destructive penetrometric measurements performed on intact oranges with a 11.3 mm diameter probe by digital dynamometric equipment. The tests were carried out on 366 blood oranges (Citrus sinensis (L.) Osbeck cv. Tarocco); 60 were used as a control group to verify the non-destructive nature of the tests. Four test factors were used on the fruit: two different levels of non-destructive deformation (1 and 3 mm), at two different deformation speeds (5 and 30 mm s?1). In order to obtain the reference parameter (MT firmness), a destructive penetrometric test followed each non-destructive deformation on the same fruit (deformation of 20 mm at 1 mm s?1). The force–deformation curves of the non-destructive tests were elaborated to calculate different texture parameters (max force, elasticity, work). These parameters with raw curve data (force values for constant deformation steps) were used, after autoscaling pre-processing, as X-block datasets in supervised multivariate modelling (partial least squares) to predict MT firmness values. Among the test factors used, the 30 mm s?1 speed and 3 mm deformation provided the best overall prediction of MT firmness. This comprised an r value of 0.76 and standard error of prevision (SEP) of 2.99 N for a MT firmness mean value of 35.65 N (8.4%). The time needed to apply the selected deformation may lead to a sorting speed of about 10 fruit per second, representing an acceptable value for commercial application.  相似文献

The goals of the present studies were: (1) to obtain smoking material from tobacco with reduced toxicity; (2) to use the tobacco leaf, as an alternative to other plants, as a source of food protein. On the grounds of technological, nutritional and agronomical results, the following observations can be made: (1) It is feasible to lower the toxicity of the tobacco smoke by extracting protein from the green leaves before curing. (2) The cured deproteinized tobacco can easily be utilized for the production of smoking material without any important alteration of its taste. (3) The composition of the tobacco protein concentrate is very interesting and is superior to other protein concentrates. (4) Itsin vivo andin vitro digestibility is one of the highest among the vegetable protein sources which have been studied. (5) Use of high planting densities and high levels of nitrogen fertilization per hectare results in high yields of total protein from tobacco (1794 Kg/ha).  相似文献

Composition, solubility, bound sugar content and quality, subunit composition and structure of the storage proteins of seeds ofLupinus albus are discussed. Aminoacid composition is also given for each protein, the various protein classes and the whole flour. These data allow for the characterization of the molecules of the various storage proteins and their contributions to the nutritional properties of the seed.In vitro digestibility (by mammalian endopeptidases) is reported and is less than for animal proteins. Possible causes, at the molecular level, for this behaviour and possible means to overcome these effects are examined. The relationships between the above data are considered in view of the nutritional performance of the proteins and of the genetical, agronomic and technological approaches most suited to improve the nutritional quality of lupine seeds as a protein source.  相似文献
