We established protocols for the analysis of genetic diversity in chayote (Sechium edule) by using isozyme markers, thereby determining the level of genetic diversity present in 42 accessions of chayote from Costa
Rica. We obtained clear and reproducible zymograms for eight enzyme staining systems: PGM, 6-PGD, PGI, IDH, MDH, SOD, SKD,
and EST, and were able to score 14 putative loci. Eight of the 14 loci examined were polymorphic. We found 35 distinct multilocus
genotypes among these accessions. Five of these multilocus genotypes were homozygous for all loci. In addition, our data also
revealed that most of the multilocus genotypes (24) were heterozygous for only one of the eight loci, and the rest were heterozygous
for two or three loci (9 and 4 accessions, respectively). Seven multilocus genotypes were found in two different accessions.
Dice similarity coefficient was used to study the relationship between accessions. This analysis, based on the presence and
absence of alleles, revealed that accessions collected in the same location seldom shared the same multilocus genotype. The
value of isozyme polymorphisms as tools to continue studies on the characterization of chayote is discussed. 相似文献

OBJECTIVES: To determine the prevalences of overweight, obesity, type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM) and hypertension (HT) in the Mexican population and compare them with those of a previous Mexican urban survey and an American survey. DESIGN: A structured, randomised, nationally representative Mexican sample was compared with a 1993 Mexican urban survey and the US Third National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES III) of non-Hispanic Whites. SETTING: The Mexican National Health Survey 2000.Subjects: Subjects were 12,856 men and 28,332 women, aged 20-69 years, who had their body weight, height, waist circumference (WC), blood pressure and fasting capillary blood glucose measured. RESULTS: Mexican adult men and women had a high prevalence of overweight (41.3 and 36.3%, respectively) and obesity (19.4 and 29.0%, respectively), similar to those in the USA in 1988-1992 and exceeding those of the 1993 Mexican survey. The prevalence of HT was 33.3% in men and 25.6% in women, with inferred DM rates of 5.6 and 9.7%, respectively. Abdominal obesity affected 46.3% of men (WC>or=94 cm) and 81.4% of women (WC>or=80 cm). There was a high prevalence of abdominal obesity in normal-weight women, with co-morbidities relating better to WC than to body mass index (BMI) in both sexes. Rates of DM and HT exceeded US rates on a comparable BMI or WC basis in adults aged <50 years. CONCLUSION: The high prevalence of obesity and abdominal obesity in Mexicans is associated with markedly increased prevalences of DM and HT to levels comparable with, or even higher than, those in NHANES III of non-Hispanic Whites. 相似文献

Increased productivity of potatoes can improve the livelihood of smallholder potato farmers in Kenya, Uganda and Ethiopia
and is required to meet the growing demand. This paper investigates the opportunities for potato system improvement that could
result in improved productivity. Through a diagnosis of the potato systems in the three countries on the basis of surveys
and stakeholder workshops, seed potato quality management, bacterial wilt control, late blight control and soil fertility
management were identified as key technical intervention topics. For effective problem solving in these areas, the functioning
of the potato innovation system requires improvement to better deliver the functions of potato marketing as well as knowledge
development and information exchange. With use of a ‘system failure framework’ the shortcomings of the potato innovation system

Fourteen United States (U.S.) seed potato certification agencies surveyed all U.S. seed potato growing areas for presence of the potato spindle tuber viroid (PSTVd). The survey included general surveillance, which involved searching for the occurrence of PSTVd in state seed potato certification records from 1990 through 2000, and a field survey, which involved testing selected crops for PSTVd infection by nucleic acid dot blot hybridization during 1999 through 2001. No PSTVd incident was documented in any of the state certification records, nor was PSTVd detected in the field surveys. All U.S. seed-growing areas were determined to be free of PSTVd. It is concluded that PSTVd has been eradicated and freedom from potato spindle tuber viroid has been successfully maintained in all of the seed potato growing areas in the United States. 相似文献

In this paper, a new method to fuse low resolution multispectral and high resolution RGB images is introduced, in order to detect Gramineae weed in rice fields with plants at 50 days after emergence (DAE).The images are taken from a fixed-wing unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) at 60 and 70 m altitude. The proposed method combines the texture information given by a high resolution red–green–blue (RGB) image and the reflectance information given by a low resolution multispectral (MS) image, to obtain a fused RGB-MS image with better weed discrimination features. After analyzing the normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) and normalized green red difference index (NGRDI) for weed detection, it was found that NGRDI presents better features. The fusion method consists of decomposing the RGB image using the intensity, hue and saturation (IHS) transformation, then, a second order Haar wavelet transformation is applied to the intensity layer (I) and the NGRDI image. From this transformation, the low–low (LL) coefficients of the NGRDI image are replaced by the LL coefficients of the I layer. Finally, the fused image is obtained by transforming the new wavelet coefficients to RGB space. To test the method, a one hectare experimental plot with rice plants at 50 DAE with Gramineae weeds was selected. Additionally, to compare the performance of the method, two indices were used, specifically, the M/MGT index which is the percentage of detected weed area, and the MP index which indicates the precision of weed detection. These indices were evaluated in four validation zones using three Neural Networks (NN) detection systems based on three types of images; namely, RGB, RGB + NGRDI, and fused RGB-NGRDI. The best weed detection performance was obtained by the NN with the fused image, with M/MGT index between 80 and 108% and MP between 70 and 85%. 相似文献

Two infection protocols, individual oral (IO) and waterborne infection (WB), were evaluated to challenge Penaeus (Litopenaeus) vannamei with White Spot Syndrome Virus (WSSV). Five different batches of full and half-sib families were infected experimentally and tested for growth performance under commercial growth conditions. The genetic variance for WSSV resistance was estimated using a linear sire-dam repeatability model that considers test-day survival as the dependent variable. The heritability estimates using the IO protocol ranged from 0.01 ± 0.00 to 0.02 ± 0.01, whereas the heritability estimates using the WB infection protocol were not significantly different from zero. The genetic correlations measured as the product moment correlation between full-sib family breeding values for resistance to WSSV and harvest body weight in ponds were unfavourable in three of the five batches and favourable in one of them. The dosage of WSSV was better controlled with IO oral infection than with other methods, with all animals being exposed to approximately the same risk of infection at the same time. This should improve the accuracy of the genetic parameters and hence improve the accuracy of the breeding values. It should, however, be noted that once the outbreak was established and the mortalities began, the shape and the magnitude of the slope of the mortality curves showed little difference in the infection pattern between batches irrespective of the dosage and infection protocol, and in most of the cases the cumulative mortality was greater than 80%.
