This work evaluates the reduction kinetics of the antiradical probe 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH (*)) in methanol and acetonitrile by the antiradical activity of protocatechuic acid (3,4-dihydroxybenzoic acid, 1) and protocatechuic acid methyl ester ( 2). The reduction kinetics of DPPH (*) in both solvents by the antiradical activity of the p-catechol group in 2 is regular, that is, coincide with the proposed standard kinetic model for the reduction kinetics of DPPH (*) by the antiradical activity of an isolated p-catechol group. Therefore, the antiradical activity of 2 experimentally exhibits two rate-two stoichiometric constants in acetonitrile and three rate--three stoichiometric constants in methanol. In contrast, the reduction kinetics of DPPH (*) in both solvents by the antiradical activity of the p-catechol group in 1 is perturbed, that is, deviate from the proposed standard kinetic model. The deviations arise from the presence of the reactive carboxylic acid function which, in methanol, induces an additional reversible side reaction and, in acetonitrile, turns an irreversible reaction reversible, thus modifying the otherwise regular reduction kinetics of DPPH (*) by the antiradical activity of the p-catechol group in 1. On the other hand, the approximated theoretical kinetic equation that applies for those p-catechol groups whose reduction kinetics is regular and that experimentally exhibit three rate--three stoichiometric constants has been derived and used for fitting.  相似文献

Changes in land cover have a direct impact on forest ecosystem goods and services. In this study, changes in land cover in Sierra de Juarez–Oaxaca ecosystems were estimated using a consistent processing of Landsat images and OBIA methodology. Additionally, landscape analyses using FRAGSTAT were conducted. In 2014, Sierra de Juarez–Oaxaca was covered by approximately 84% of forests, mainly pine-oak and cloud forests. After extensive deforestation until 2001, this trend was reversed and the forest cover surface area in 2014 was slightly higher than in 1979. The comparison of the landscape structure of the forested and agricultural lands suggests an increase in habitat heterogeneity. However, interspersion and juxtaposition indices, showing the patch shape by patch area and perimeter, were similar throughout the study period(1979–2014). Social and economic drivers can explain this situation: namely, community organization, forest enterprises, payment for ecosystem services programs, and changes of agricultural activity. Communities in the Sierra of Oaxaca have reforested degraded lands, created community forest enterprises, and preserved the forest under conservation schemes like those proposed by the Mexican payment for ecosystem services programs. However, their sustainable management faces internal challenges and has become highly dependent on political and institutional decisions beyond their control.  相似文献

Phytophthora ramorum, cause of sudden oak death, has been distributed widely across the United States in horticultural situations, but is not established in forests outside of California and Oregon. Here, it has triggered widespread concern and, especially in Oregon, an intensive disease management programme. Now, we provide the first systematic evaluation of the efficacy of that effort. This paper evaluates four measures of the efficacy of Sudden Oak Death (SOD) local eradication treatments: inoculum availability; inoculum from tree species other than tanoak; disease spread from treated areas; and cumulative infested area with and without treatment. We conclude that local treatments demonstrably reduce local inoculum levels. Eradication of SOD from infested sites is difficult but not impossible. The disease usually does not persist after cutting infected trees but spread on the landscape continues because the pathogen may be present on undetected new infections for a year or two before whole tree symptoms are visible. This limits early detection and coupled with delays in completing eradication treatments, prolongs the chances for long‐distance aerial dispersal.  相似文献

Knitted wool and wool/nylon blend dyed fabrics were treated with low temperature plasma (LTP) to achieve optimum shrink-resistance without impairing surface topography, colour or fastness to washing of the fabrics. As LTP tends to impair handle of the fabrics, both wool and wool/nylon blend fabrics were submitted to industrial softening and/or biopolymer treatments after LTP treatment, leading to hydrophilic wool and wool/nylon blend fabrics with improved shrink-resistance without any colour changes and good fastness to washing. The results obtained were compared with those obtained by an industrial shrink-resist treatment.  相似文献

The influence of a deficit-irrigation (DI) strategy on soil–plant water relations and gas exchange activity was analysed during a 3-year period in mature ‘Lane late’ (Citrus sinensis (L.) Osb.) citrus trees grafted on two different rootstocks, ‘Cleopatra’ mandarin (Citrus reshni Hort. ex Tanaka ) and ‘Carrizo’ citrange (C. sinensis L., Osbeck × Poncirus trifoliata L.). Two treatments were applied for each rootstock: a control treatment, irrigated at 100% ETc (crop evapotranspiration) during the entire season, and a DI treatment, irrigated at 100% ETc, except during Phase I (cell division) and Phase III (ripening and harvest) of fruit growth, when complete irrigation cut-off was applied. Under soil water deficit, the seasonal variations of soil water content suggested that ‘Cleopatra’ mandarin had a better root efficiency for soil water extraction than ‘Carrizo’ citrange. Moreover, in all years, trees on ‘Cleopatra’ reached a lower water-stress level (midday xylem water potential values (Ψmd) > −2 MPa), maintaining a better plant water status during the water-stress periods than trees on ‘Carrizo’ (Ψmd < −2 MPa). Similarly, net CO2 assimilation rate (A) was higher in trees on ‘Cleopatra’ during the water-stress periods. In addition, the better plant water status in trees on ‘Cleopatra’ under DI conditions stimulated a greater vegetative growth compared to trees on ‘Carrizo’. From a physiological point of view, ‘Cleopatra’ mandarin was more tolerant of severe water stress (applied in Phases I and III of fruit growth) than ‘Carrizo’ citrange.  相似文献

Plasma amino acid (AA) levels were analysed at various intervals during fasting and after feeding in juvenile brown trout, Salmo trutta. After 3 days of food deprivation, total plasma AAs decreased significantly (–26% vs. control) due to a fall in the most abundant essential AAs (EAA): branched-chain amino acid (BCAA) and Thr, and there was also a decrease in non-essential AA (NEAA) levels, especially Ala and Asn. After 15 days of fasting, BCAA increased, possibly related to muscle protein mobilization. After 50 days of food deprivation, a significant increase in Gln levels (40% vs. 15 days of fasting) and a decrease in BCAA (–25% vs. 15 days of fasting) was noted. Feeding a commercial trout pellet caused a clear and progressive increase in plasma AA levels. Both EAA and NEAA concentrations peaked at 11 h post-feeding (4068 ± 160 and 4261 ± 239 µM NEAA, respectively) with a greater increase in EAA (+62%) than NEAA (40%) with respect to control values. These data show that changes in the plasma AA pool clearly reflect the nutritional state of fish and help us to understand the complex AA metabolism.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: The chemosterilisation technique has been demonstrated to reduce the population and fruit damage of the Mediterranean fruit fly, Ceratitis capitata (Wiedemann), in citrus orchards. Field trials showed efficacy by reducing the fruit fly population, which was progressively achieved by continuous application of lufenuron to several generations. Different authors have suggested that field trials should be carried out in isolated or wide areas in order to reduce fruit fly intrusion and obtain best results. To this end, a wide‐area trial over 3600 hectares has been under investigation in Valencia (Spain) since 2002 to validate the chemosterilisation technique against the fruit fly. The whole area was treated with 24 traps ha?1, using more than 86 000 traps in the field trial. RESULTS: A continuous decrease in fruit fly population was observed over the 4 years under trial. Moreover, results showed a significant reduction in persimmon damage in the chemosterilant treatment area compared with a malathion aerial treatment area. In the case of citrus damage, no significant differences were obtained between malathion and chemosterilant treatments. CONCLUSION: The chemosterilant method reduces Mediterranean fruit fly populations, and therefore it is a candidate treatment to replace aerial treatments with insecticides in order to suppress this pest. In addition, the efficacy of chemosterilant treatment is increasing year after year. The possibility of using this technique combined with other control methods is discussed.
