Praemachiloides iberica n. sp. is described and compared with the other four known species of the genus: P. janetschecki, P. insularis, P.tarsispina and P. autumnalis. The main difference of P. iberica n. sp. from the other known congenerics is the presence, in the male, of a field of plaited setae on the ventral surface of the maxillary palp.  相似文献

Peripheral pain pathways are activated by a range of stimuli. We used diphtheria toxin to kill all mouse postmitotic sensory neurons expressing the sodium channel Nav1.8. Mice showed normal motor activity and low-threshold mechanical and acute noxious heat responses but did not respond to noxious mechanical pressure or cold. They also showed a loss of enhanced pain responses and spontaneous pain behavior upon treatment with inflammatory insults. In contrast, nerve injury led to heightened pain sensitivity to thermal and mechanical stimuli indistinguishable from that seen with normal littermates. Pain behavior correlates well with central input from sensory neurons measured electrophysiologically in vivo. These data demonstrate that Na(v)1.8-expressing neurons are essential for mechanical, cold, and inflammatory pain but not for neuropathic pain or heat sensing.  相似文献

A comparison of three family indices to increase number of pupas from 3-d lay in Drosophila melanogaster is reported. The three indices were Id, based exclusively on dam's information; Ihd, based additionally on dam's full-sibs' and half-sibs' information; and Ihs, which also included the sire's full-sibs' and half-sibs' records. Three lines, D, HD, and HS, were selected, each according to one of the three indices: Id, Ihd, or Ihs. Each line consisted of 10 sires and 60 dams. Each dam contributed one male offspring and three female offspring. Seven generations of selection were performed in a two-replicate experiment. The expected advance of Ihs and Ihd over Id in the seventh generation was .38 and .15 phenotypic standard deviations, respectively. The experiment was analyzed in terms of both classical ordinary least squares (OLS) and mixed-model methodology (MMM). The phenotypic trends in the first replicate were 4.06 +/- 1.74, 1.42 +/- 1.76, and .26 +/- 1.94 pupas per generation for Lines D, HD, and HS, respectively, and in the second replicate 8.52 +/- 2.40, 6.16 +/- 3.21, and 4.21 +/- 2.60, respectively. The genetic trends in the first replicate were 2.18 +/- .61, 1.08 +/- .67, and .24 +/- .68 pupas per generation and, in the second replicate, 2.51 +/- .60, .16 +/- .61, and .05 +/- .64 for Lines D, HD, and HS, respectively. Despite theoretical expectations, the Id index was consistently better than the more complex indices. Several explanations for these results are possible: 1) smaller than expected selection differential, 2) inbreeding depression, and 3) incorrect heritability used to construct the indices.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)  相似文献

A critical review of the evolutionary biology of Iberian and North African lizard members of the genus Podarcis (Lacertidae) based on phylogeny, phylogeography, morphometrics, behavior, ecology and physiology is presented. The Iberomaghrebian region is inhabited by at least 12 different evolutionary lineages that group into a monophyletic clade (except Podarcis muralis). In contrast to the current taxonomy, the saxicolous ‘Podarcis hispanica’ is paraphyletic with respect to Podarcis bocagei and Podarcis carbonelli, two currently recognized species. Nodes in the phylogenetic tree are deep, resulting from old divergences, clearly preceding the Pleistocene. Nevertheless, more recent range changes as a result of glaciations are also evident. The most plausible evolutionary scenario for this group indicates both vicariant and dispersal events. Although parapatry between lineages is the rule, sympatry and even syntopy are frequent, but usually between ground‐dwelling and saxicolous forms. Contacts between forms with similar habitat use are rare and local. Morphological distinctiveness between lineages has been demonstrated, indicating historical constraints. However, other characters have repeatedly evolved under similar environmental pressures independently of the evolutionary lineage. Strong sexual dimorphism derives from sexual selection and is attained before sexual maturity, although developmental restrictions exist. Variation between populations is also important and derives from local variation in both natural (habitat, climate) and sexual (density) selective pressures. Evidence for short‐term changes has already been found, particularly in insular populations. Reproductive isolation between syntopic forms and partner recognition are based on male—male competition and on visual and chemical recognition of females by conspecific males. Despite this ancient diversification, most forms maintain a degree of reproductive compatibility. Hybridisation may occur, but is limited, and there is evidence of selection against hybrids. The ecological analysis presented here does not support exploitative competition, but rather behavioral interference between forms. Ecomorph classification of lineages suggests character displacement between those with extensive range overlap. Finally, a critical assessment of the specific status of all lineages is provided and directions for further research are suggested.  相似文献

Sustainability has come to play an important role in agricultural production. A way to combine efficiency with sustainability might be by searching for robust animals that can be selected for the homogeneity of certain traits. Furthermore, the optimization of feed efficiency is one of the challenges to improve livestock genetics programmes, but this might compromise reproductive efficiency. Animals from two divergent mouse lines, regarding variability of birthweight, were used to check whether homogeneity was also related to both feed and reproductive efficiency. The objective of this study was to use these divergent lines of mice to compare them with their feed efficiency and the reproductive capacity. Animal weight, weight gain, feed intake, relative intake and cumulated transformation index were considered as feed efficiency traits. Animals from the low line had both lower weight and feed intake from 21 to 56 days. They had a worse transforming index in the three last weeks when litter size was fitted as an effect of the model, but the lines become similar if the higher litter size of the low line was not included. Reproductively, the low line performed better considering the number of females having parturitions, the number of parturitions, and with higher litter size and survival in both parturitions. Hence, the low variability line was preferred because of reproductive efficiency without seriously affecting its feed efficiency. Homogeneity seemed to be related to robustness with similar feed efficiency but higher reproductive efficiency.  相似文献

Many organisms exhibit compensatory growth (CG), an accelerated growth rate during recovery from periods of low nutrient resources. Despite numerous studies, many aspects of CG, particularly fine‐scale temporal effects early in life, remain poorly understood. We manipulated early‐life feeding regimens in threespine stickleback (Gasterosteus aculeatus) to study compensatory responses in growth rate and lipid storage during the first growing season. Laboratory‐reared stickleback, including ancestral oceanic and derived freshwater populations, were divided into three age‐specific dietary treatment groups – DPR1, DPR2 and DPR3 – which were exposed to a half‐ration nutrient deprivation for 30 days at the onset of 2, 3 and 4 months of age, respectively. We hypothesised that these month‐long periods of nutrient deprivation would result in strong, yet variable CG responses across stickleback populations and dietary treatments following a return to optimal ration levels. The youngest two age classes of fish (DPR1 &and DPR2) exhibited strong CG responses, matching growth rates and lipid generation levels seen in control fish fed an ad libitum diet. The oldest nutrient‐deprived group (DPR3) showed a reduced CG response, with body growth recovering only partially, and lipid levels exhibiting even less recovery. Our results demonstrate that compensatory growth responses in juvenile stickleback depend on the timing of deprivation during the first growing season and further that responses to late‐season deprivation have favoured development of a larger body frame entering the overwintering season over lipid regeneration.  相似文献

Land use change (LUC) alters soil structure and, consequently, the functions and services provided by these soils. Conversion from extensive pasture to sugarcane is one of the largest land transitions in Brazil as a result of the growth of the domestic and global demands of bioenergy. However, the impacts of sugarcane expansion on the soil structure under extensive pasture remains unclear, especially when considering changes at the microscale. We investigated whether LUC for sugarcane cultivation impacted soil microstructure quality. Undisturbed soil samples were taken from two soil layers (0–10 and 10–20 cm) under three contrasting land uses (native vegetation—NV, pasture—PA and sugarcane—SC) in three different locations in the central-southern Brazil. Oriented thin sections (30 μm) were used for micromorphological analysis. The total area of pores decreased following the LUC in the following order: NV > PA > SC in both soil layers. The area of large complex packing pores (>0.01 mm²) also decreased with the LUC sequence: NV>PA>SC. Qualitative and semi-quantitative micromorphological analysis confirmed porosity reduction was driven by the decrease in complex packing pores and that biological features decreased in the same LUC sequence as the quantitative parameters. Therefore, LUC for sugarcane expansion reduced microscale soil porosity, irrespectively of soil type and site-specific conditions, indicating that the adoption of more sustainable management practices is imperative to preserve soil structure and sustain soil functions in Brazilian sugarcane fields.  相似文献

L‐ascorbyl‐2‐monophosphate‐Na/Ca (AMP‐Na/Ca) was used as a vitamin C source to investigate its ascorbic acid (L‐AA) enrichment and retention in boosted Artemia biomass (AB) and squid mantle muscle (SM). Different doses of AMP‐Na/Ca (500, 1000, and 1500 AMP‐Na/Ca mg/kg) were gradually dissolved into the culture tanks at time 0 (T0) and at each hour until Hour 6 (T6). Samples of AB and SM were taken for AMP‐Na/Ca and L‐AA analysis at T0, T1, T2, T3, T4, T5, T6, T12, and T24. There were no significant differences (P > 0.05) among the AB groups at T1. The T6 enrichment analysis for AB resulted in significant differences (P < 0.05) in the AMP‐Na/Ca content for the 1500 mg/kg treatment, in which the initial concentration (0.001 ± 0.002 mg/kg) increased by more than 16‐fold. For all AB enrichment treatments, the AMP‐Na/Ca content demonstrated a decrease (32–11%) for the T6, T12 and T24 analysis. The T1 analysis for SM at the higher AMP‐Na/Ca enrichment concentration registered 30 mg/kg of L‐AA and decreased (27.6%) at T6. This study demonstrated that AB and SM can be boosted with AMP‐Na/Ca.  相似文献
