Two feeding trials were conducted to investigate the effect of replacing fishmeal with a combination of soy and corn protein concentrate (1:1 ratio) on growth performance of the Pacific white shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei). A basal diet containing 200 g/kg fishmeal was systematically reduced (200, 150, 100, 50 and 0 g/kg) with protein concentrate on an isonitrogenous basis. Additionally, two diets containing 0 or 50 g/kg fishmeal were supplemented with lysine and methionine to evaluate possible limitations in EAAs. Each diet was randomly fed to five replicate tanks (15 shrimp per 75 L aquaria) reared in an indoor clear water system (Trial 1), or four replicate circular tanks (100 shrimp per 800 L) reared in outdoor green water system (Trial 2). In trial 1, results indicated a slight decrease in shrimp performance as fishmeal was replaced at the highest levels. Meanwhile, the supplementation of lysine and methionine to the diets did not result in shifts in survival, growth or FCR. In trial 2, there were no significant differences in growth performance across the tested diets. This study demonstrated that plant‐based protein concentrates can be used to replace fishmeal in practical shrimp diet in clear and green water under high stocking density. 相似文献

Two trials were conducted to evaluate the efficacy of commercial enzyme‐treated soy (ESBM) to replace the use of fish meal (FM) in practical diets for Florida pompano Trachinotus carolinus. The reference diet which has been run in numerous trials for Florida pompano was formulated using 150, 466 and 80 g/kg of FM, soybean meal and corn protein concentrate respectively. In trial 1, test diets were produced by replacing FM with 30.8, 61.4 and 92.1 g/kg of ESBM. In trial 2, test diets were produced by replacing FM with 28.9, 89.8, 120.1 g/kg of ESBM. Triplicate group of fish in trial 1 (mean weight = 13.05 ± 0.34 g) and trial 2 (mean weight = 18.45 ± 0.49 g) was fed these diets to apparent satiety for 8 weeks. Growth performance was affected as the dietary FM was replaced with ESBM. In trial 1, final weight (FW), percentage weight gain and thermal growth coefficient were lower in 6 g/kg of FM compared to 15 g/kg, while feed conversion ratio significantly higher in fish fed the lowest inclusion level of FM (6 g/kg). In trial 2, FW was significantly lower when FM completely replaced by ESBM and no significant differences in other growth parameters. In all trials, no significant differences were observed in terms of crude protein, moisture, fat, crude fibre, dry matter and ash content of the fish. No significant differences in serum levels of total protein, albumin, alkaline phosphatase, alanine transaminase, aspartate transaminase, glucose and bile acids were observed in either trial. However, in trial 1, serum cholesterol level was higher in fish fed 150 g/kg FM compared to other dietary treatments. The histomorphological structure of liver and distal intestine was slightly affected by lower inclusion level of FM. Overall, there was a decreasing trend in pompano growth performance as the inclusion of FM decreased. All parameters indicated that ESBM could be used to reduce the inclusion of FM from 150 to 90 g/kg. 相似文献

Florida pompano perform well on soy‐based, low‐animal protein diets. These diets may be improved through the use of enzymes as a feed supplement or as pretreatment of the soy product prior to inclusion. Novel soy products produced through enzyme treatment or fermentation often have higher protein content and lower levels of indigestible carbohydrates. Two trials were conducted to evaluate the potential of enzyme supplements. The first trial evaluated the effects of carbohydrase supplementation to diets based on two different soybean meals (commodity or selectively bred meal). Pompano fed the selected soybean had significantly improved growth rates and feed efficiency, while enzymatic supplementation had no significant effect on fish performance. However, enzyme supplementation increased phosphorus and energy retention when added to diets based on commodity soybean meal. Carbohydrase supplementation improved dry matter digestibility in commodity soy‐based diets but had no significant effect on selected soybean‐based diets. The second growth trial consisted of an increasing inclusion of an enzymatically treated soybean meal product (NutriVance). Results indicate that NutriVance can replace the totality of commodity soybean without impacting fish performance. Digestibility of the commodity soy, NutriVance, and a fermented soybean meal (Pepsoygen) was also evaluated, with no detectable difference in digestibility values. 相似文献

An enteritic syndrome affecting farmed rainbow trout and occurring predominantly in summer has recently been described and related to the massive accumulation of a segmented filamentous bacterium (SFB), ‘Candidatus Arthromitus’, in the digestive tract of fish. Details of the clinical manifestations, the characteristics of the bacterium and the possible aetiology of the disease are presented in this paper. No other bacterial pathogen than ‘Candidatus Arthromitus’ was characterized in trout undergoing the enteritic syndrome. From clinical and histopathological observations, a toxin or toxic product accumulation was suspected in affected trout, and could account for the massive destruction of the intestinal mucosa. However, the origin and aetiological role of the SFB could not be clearly elucidated, although most of the filaments appeared to beviable and to produce and release strings of endospores in the lumen of the gut. The organism could not be cultured in the conditions tested, shared several morphological and structural characteristics with related bacteria described in the intestinal microflora of different vertebrate species, but no attachment structure was definitively recognized. All attempts to detect similar SFB in the fish diet orin the environment of affected fish farms were unsuccessful. It is unclear whether this organism represents a normal and not previously detected inhabitant of the intestine of trout stressed after environmental perturbation, or whether it results directly from external sources of contamination. 相似文献

- Scutellastra mexicana is the largest known patellid limpet species and probably is one of the most endangered marine invertebrates.
- The species was once distributed along the American Pacific coast from Mexico to Peru, but their large size (up to 35 cm long) and easy accessibility (shallow sublittoral), made it very vulnerable to human collection and now is extinct on most of the mainland Mexican coast.
- In August 2017, a large population of this species was found on María Cleofas island, off the coast of west‐central Mexico (Marías Archipelago, Pacific Ocean). This constitutes the only report of a population of this species since 1988.
- A total of 808 adult individuals of up to 26 cm in length and 20 cm in width were estimated, together with the presence of juveniles, suggesting that it is a self‐sustaining population. The population was monitored in August 2017 and August 2018.
- Although the species is under the category ‘Special Protection’ in the General Mexican Wild Law, and that María Cleofas island is a Biosphere Reserve, fishermen that operate with impunity in the area decimated the limpet population within a year of its discovery. Abundance in the shallowest area decreased significantly from 120 individuals per transect (65 m long and 2.75 m wide) in August 2017 to 48 individuals in August 2018, and the estimated adult population decreased from 808 to 304 limpets.
- Neither passive national conservation policies nor local practices have reduced current threats to biodiversity and resource depletion in Marías Archipelago. Protected areas like this are ‘paper parks’—parks in name only—because there is no active conservation strategy or protection of marine species.

- The disproportionately low presence of marine species in the list of invasive alien species (IAS) of Union concern of the European Union (EU) Regulation 1143/2014 does not fully acknowledge the threat they pose to the EU marine environment.
- In this study, the first EU‐scale Horizon Scanning (HS) focusing on marine alien species was performed, aiming to deliver a ranked list of species that should be of high priority for risk assessment (Article 5 of the EU IAS Regulation).
- Species absent from or with a limited distribution in EU marine waters were targeted. In total, 363 alien species were initially screened for HS by a panel of experts, including a broad range of taxonomic groups. Species were scored for their likelihood of arrival, establishment, spread, and impact in EU waters.
- A consensus workshop ranked 267 species, including a subset of 26 prioritized species. These species are considered to be mainly introduced by shipping (fouling and ballast water), via the Suez Canal, and aquaculture activities. The 26 priority species were also scrutinized in terms of feasibility of their management; 18 of them were suggested for performing risk assessments on the basis of the EU IAS Regulation.
- Since biological invasions are dynamic and connected with accelerated globalization and diversified human activities, we recommend HS to be repeated periodically to review the species already listed and assess new ones.

Studies pertaining to cholesterol requirement are limited based on the levels evaluated and statistical analysis. Two trials were conducted to refine cholesterol requirement in Pacific white shrimp Litopenaeus vannamei feeds. The basal diet was supplemented with graded levels of cholesterol (ranging from 0.48 to 1.85 g/kg) in trial 1. Since the shrimp (initial weight: 0.24 g) growth response was very linear without reaching a plateau, it was not clear whether the requirement was met. Hence, a second trial was designed using eight diets designed with an increased range of cholesterol levels from 0.45 to 4.57 g/kg of diets. The shrimp (0.38 g initial weight) reached a final weight of (4.31–7.43 g) or per cent weight gain from 1,014%–1,874% (n = 4) after 6 weeks. Saturation kinetic model and broken‐line models with linear or quadratic ascending portions were used to evaluate dose–response relationships of feed efficiency (FE), thermal‐unit growth coefficient (TGC), whole‐body cholesterol (CHOL) and cholesterol deposition (CHOLD) against dietary cholesterol. The cholesterol requirement of shrimp was estimated at 1.9 (1.1–4.3) g/kg, 1.7 (1.1–3.4) g/kg, 2.5 (2.3–2.9) g/kg and 2.7 (2.4–3.1) g/kg of shrimp diet for FE, TGC, CHOL and CHOLD, respectively. To examine the fate of P added to soils as fertilizer and to assess potential P losses to groundwater, different forms of P at increasing depths in soils and P concentration in effluents from tile drains were determined. The estimates of soil P showed that the fertilizer P applied over a number of years accumulated mainly in the plow layer, suggesting that P losses to groundwater from cultivated soils with deep water table are minimum. Analyses of effluents obtained over a 1 yr period from tile drains in four soils in different crops, however, showed that the concentration of P varied from 12 ppb to 124 ppb. The concentration of P in effluent from the soil with the largest amount of P in the plow layer remained the largest throughout the year. Apparently, in cultivated soils with the tile drains, flooding may produce reducing conditions resulting in greater mobility of P. 相似文献

The Vitamin C content of 34 peach varieties, fruits which served to the fabrication of fruits in sirup, has been studied.This content is relatively poor and depends upon the varieties (5 to 17 mg for 100 g of fresh pulp) but it seems stable enough for each variety according to the year.After canning the loss in Vitamin C is about 15 to 45% of the initial quantity and this seems dependent of the variety.
Zusammenfassung Der vitamin C-Gehalt von 34 Pfirsichsorten zur Fabrikation von Pfirsichkonserven wurde untersucht. Der relativ geringe Gehalt (5 bis 17 mg/100 g des frischen Fruchtfleisches) ist sortenabhängig und scheint innerhalb verschiedener Jahre ziemlich gleich zu bleiben.Nach der Konservierung ist ein Vitamin C-Verlust von 15 bis 45% der ursprünglichen Menge zu verzeichnen. In August 2019, visual inspection of intertidal zones of the Gulf of Maine (ME, USA) revealed young and adult wild blue mussels, Mytilus spp., in Alley Bay (Jonesport area) with the distinctive L-shaped shell deformity (LSSD) and green spots (GS) in the mantle and adductor muscle. LSSD is a characteristic sign of current or previous mussel infection by photosynthetic unicellular alga from the group Coccomyxa, while GS are algal colonies. Based on these findings, this study represents the first report of infection signs by pathogenic Coccomyxa-like algae in mussels from the coastal waters of the Northeastern United States, providing a base for future large scale monitoring of the alga in the region. 相似文献
