The fashion industry has undergone a profound transformation in business practices and production systems over the past several decades. These shifts include the globalisation of production chains and the emergence of a new model of “fast fashion.” This paper investigates the response of independent fashion designers in Toronto, Canada to the growing competition posed by fast fashion. It identifies a number of strategies utilised by designers to compete, arguing that they are increasingly adopting a new model of “slow fashion,” which opens up possibilities for forging locally and ethically based relationships in the fashion sector.  相似文献

ObservationsA 9 year-old, 40 kg, female spayed Bouvier des Flandres was anesthetized for surgical removal of an intra-cardiac mass. Pre-anesthetic work-up included thoracic radiographs, which revealed moderate pleural effusion, and cardiac ultrasound, which identified a mass attached to the wall of the right ventricular outflow tract (RVOT). The mass caused dynamic obstruction of the RVOT during systole. The dog was pre-medicated with intravenous (IV) hydromorphone (0.05 mg kg?1). Following pre-oxygenation, anesthesia was induced with ketamine (3.75 mg kg?1, IV) and diazepam (0.18 mg kg?1, IV). Anesthesia was maintained with isoflurane in oxygen, an intravenous constant rate infusion (CRI) of fentanyl (10–30 μg kg?1 hour?1) and a CRI of lidocaine (50–200 μg kg?1 minute?1). A right lateral thoracotomy was performed. The heart was stopped transiently with a cold cardioplegic solution for 7.83 minutes to allow the removal of the mass through an open-heart procedure. No cardiopulmonary bypass was used. The heart was successfully restarted after cardiopulmonary resuscitation with internal cardiac massage and internal defibrillation. The dog recovered uneventfully from anesthesia without any apparent neurological sequelae. Post-operative analgesia consisted of intercostal nerve blocks with bupivacaine, CRIs of fentanyl (2–5 μg kg?1 hour?1) and lidocaine (40 μg kg?1 minute?1) and with oral meloxicam (0.1 mg kg?1). Five days following surgery, the dog was discharged from the hospital. Histopathology and immunohistochemistry of the mass identified an ectopic thyroid carcinoma.ConclusionsThis case showed the feasibility of whole body hypothermia and using a cold cardioplegic solution to induce cardiac arrest for a short open-heart procedure.  相似文献

The experimental diets containing five levels of creatine supplementation, namely control (N = 0 g/kg creatine), B1 (1.00 g/kg glycine), B2 (0.40 g/kg creatine), B3 (0.80 g/kg creatine) and B4 (1.20 g/kg creatine) were tested to red tilapia up to apparent satiation 3 times a day for 56 days. After the feeding trial, fish were stressed by air exposure for challenge test against stress. The results described that creatine supplementation improved final body weight, feed conversion ratio (FCR) and protein retention. Creatine supplementation decreased blood glucose, cholesterol and triglyceride levels (p < .05), indicating more effective usage of non‐protein energy. Furthermore, creatine supplementation also increased plasma insulin levels and upregulated IGF‐1 and GLUT4 gene expressions in the liver significantly; it also improved robustness against stress, which was shown by higher superoxide dismutase, higher postchallenge survival and plasma cortisol, malondialdehyde and lower glucose levels. In conclusion, creatine supplementation at a dose of 0.289–0.389 g/kg diet escalated fish growth and improved robustness against stress via improving the SOD activity in red tilapia.  相似文献

Group A rotaviruses (GARVs) cause severe acute gastroenteritis in children and young animals. Although zoonotic infections with bovine-like G6 and G8 GARVs have been reported in many countries, there is little evidence for reassortment between bovine GARVs and GARVs from heterologous species. The finding of bovine GARVs with the G6 and G8 genotypes in combination with the typical porcine P[7] prompted us to characterize all 11 genes of 30 bovine GARVs isolated from clinically infected calves. By the comparison of the full-length ORF of VP7 and NSP1-5, and the partial VP1-4 and VP6 nucleotide sequences between the 30 Korean and other known strains, three different genome constellations were found. Twenty seven strains showed the G8-P[7]-I5-R1-C1-M2-A1-N1-T1-E1-H1 genotypes, a single strain possessed the G6-P[7]-I2-R2-C1-M2-A1-N2-T1-E2-H1 genotype constellation and 2 strains the G6-P[7]-I2-R2-C2-M2-A3-N2-T6-E2-H3 genotype constellation. The complete genome of a single reference strains for each of these three genotype constellations (KJ25, KJ9-1 and KJ19-2) was determined and analyzed. A detailed phylogenetic analysis revealed a complicated picture, with several reassortments among bovine-like, porcine-like and human-like GARV strains, resulting in several different reassortant strains successfully infecting cattle.  相似文献

The variation obtained in storage fatty acids induced by the procedures of tissue culture and transformation with Agrobacterium tumefaciens was investigated and compared in rapeseed, Brassica napus, cv. Hanna. An increased variation in the fatty acid profiles was noted after tissue culture and transformation compared with plants derived directly from seeds. In the second generation of rapeseed transformants, T2, the content of oleic acid ranged from 39–72%, 12–31% for linoleic acid and 7–16% for linolenic acid. This could be compared with the oleic acid content in the T2 generation of tissue culture-derived plants which ranged between 47–76% and in seed-derived material where oleic acid ranged between 55–69%.In the T3 generation the ranges in transgenic seeds were decreased but still larger than in the seed derived plants. The range in transgenic plants was 49–64% for oleic acid, 20–28% for linoleic acid and 9–18% for linolenic acid. The most extreme individuals, both highest and lowest in the common fatty acids, were found in the group of transformed plants independent of generation. The total lipid content was also affected by the two treatments and seeds with the lowest and highest lipid content were both found among the transformed plants. In conclusion, care should be taken to use proper controls when performing transformation experiments in order to distinguish variation in the fatty acid profiles induced by the transformation procedure and tissue culture treatments from the changes due to transgenic expression. Tissues were examined from 26 male Holstein veal calves given large amounts of dietary zinc. All calves had been fed 706 micrograms zinc/g of milk replacer for 28 days before the first death occurred. Calves died naturally (14, group A) or were euthanatized (12, group B) after 23 days of feeding a lower concentration of zinc (150 micrograms/g). Average amounts of zinc in liver (wet weight) were 345.72 micrograms/g (group A) and 344.84 micrograms/g (group B). Mean kidney zinc concentrations were 219.0 micrograms/g (group A) and 252.38 micrograms/g (group B). Tissue manganese, copper, and iron levels were normal. Changes at necropsy included pneumonia, fluid digesta, and petechiae and infarcts in liver, kidney, and heart (as a result of bacterial infections). Histological changes that were directly attributed to dietary zinc intake were: marked atrophy and necrosis of pancreatic acinar tissue (group A); multifocal fibrosis of pancreatic acini (group B); multifocal renal cortical fibrosis with necrosis in convoluted tubules and loops of Henle, and with intratubular mineralization (groups A and B). Hepatic midzonal mineralization and fibrosis of the adrenal zona glomerulosa were seen in group B calves.  相似文献

The objective of this article is to convey an understanding of currently used classification schemes and to correlate this classification with modern concepts of hematopoietic system biology. HEMANGIOSARCOMA IN THE MAIN PULMONARY ARTERY OF A DOG   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
The clinical, radiological and necropsy findings in a five-year old dog with a hemangiosarcoma in the main pulmonary artery are described. Hemangiosarcoma in this location has not been previously described in the dog, the typical location in the heart being the right atrium and auricle. The tumor in this dog caused both a perfusion deficit to the right lung and obstruction of right ventricular outflow, which eventually caused right heart failure.  相似文献
