The rheological properties of 17 pure European wheat cultivars were analyzed and evaluated in relation to the bread volume. Rheological testing included two empirical rheological methods, farinograph and alveograph, and more fundamental creep‐recovery experiments at shear stresses of 100 and 250 Pa. Principal component analysis on the farinograph and alveograph results showed that a wide range of rheological properties was present among the wheat cultivars. Correlation analysis pointed out that creep‐recovery parameters showed significant correlations with protein content, Zeleny sedimentation value, farinograph water absorption, alveograph extensibility, and bread volume. Among the rheological parameters, maximum recovery strain at a shear stress of 250 Pa showed the highest significant correlation with the bread volume (r = 0.790**). Variables were combined to predict the bread volume by multiple linear regression. A combination of protein content, farinograph water absorption, and alveograph P/L showed the best prediction (r2 = 0.80). When taking into account the creep‐recovery parameters, the best prediction of the bread volume (r2 = 0.74) was obtained for a combination of the maximum recovery strain at a shear stress of 250 Pa with one other quality parameter (Zeleny sedimentation value, farinograph water absorption, or alveograph W). 相似文献

Direct interspecies transmissions of group A rotaviruses (RVA) have been reported under natural conditions. However, the pathogenicity of RVA has never been directly compared in homologous and heterologous hosts. The bovine RVA/Cow-tc/KOR/K5/2004/G5P[7] strain, which was shown to possess a typical porcine-like genotype constellation similar to that of the G5P[7] prototype RVA/Pig-tc/USA/OSU/1977/G5P9[7] strain, was examined for its pathogenicity and compared with the porcine G5P[7] RVA/Pig-tc/KOR/K71/2006/G5P[7] strain possessing the same genotype constellation. The bovine K5 strain induced diarrhea and histopathological changes in the small intestine of piglets and calves, whereas the porcine K71 strain caused diarrhea and histopathological changes in the small intestine of piglets, but not in calves. Furthermore, the bovine K5 strain showed extra-intestinal tropisms in both piglets and calves, whereas the porcine K71 strain had extra-intestinal tropisms in piglets, but not in calves. Therefore, we performed comparative genomic analysis of the K71 and K5 RVA strains to determine whether specific mutations could be associated with these distinct clinical and pathological phenotypes. Full-length sequencing analyses for the 11 genomic segments for K71 and K5 revealed that these strains were genetically nearly identical to each other. Two nucleotide mutations were found in the 5′ untranslated region (UTR) of NSP5 and the 3′ UTR of NSP3, and eight amino acid mutations in VP1-VP4 and NSP2. Water from troughs used by weaned dairy calves was sampled on California, USA dairies to determine the prevalence and associated risk factors for Salmonella contamination. Salmonella were found on 4 of 48 dairies (4/82 water samples) in fall 1998 and on 8 of the same 37 dairies (8/83 water samples) in summer, 1999. Serotypes isolated from the water were Salmonella meleagridis and Salmonella typhimurium. Primary risk factors associated with the increased prevalence of Salmonella in water offered to weaned dairy calves were a continuous water tank-filling method compared to a valve (an "on-demand" procedure) and a water pH>8. 相似文献

The performance of a micro ELISA test for detection of feline leukemia virus (FeLV) infection was evaluated. The test was found specific for FeLV and feline sarcoma virus (FeSV) group-specific antigens in blood, plasma or serum of infected cats. Other common feline pathogens were negative to the test.Quantities as little as 7.8 ng of p-27 (the major group specific antigen of FeLV) per ml of sample gave positive results. The correlation between the micro ELISA test and the indirect immunofluorescent test commonly used for diagnosis of FeLV infection was 98% in 116 clinical cases and 184 samples from cats inoculated with FeLV and 100% in 100 specific pathogen-free cats. 相似文献

In the conservation agricultural systems practised in Australia, cultivation is not commonly utilised for the purpose of weed control. However, occasional use of tillage (strategic tillage) is implemented every few years for soil amelioration, to address constraints such as acidity, water repellence or soil compaction. Depending on the tillage method, the soil amelioration process buries or disturbs the topsoil. The act of amelioration also changes the soil physical and chemical properties and affects crop growth. While these strategic tillage practices are not usually applied for weed control, they are likely to have an impact on weed seedbank burial, which will in turn affect seed dormancy and seedbank depletion. Strategic tillage impacts on seed burial and soil characteristics will also affect weed emergence, plant survival, competitive ability of weeds against the crop and efficiency of soil applied pre-emergent herbicides. If growers understand the impacts of soil amelioration on weed demography, they can more effectively plan management strategies to apply following the strategic tillage practice. Weed seed burial resulting from a full soil inversion is understood, but for many soil tillage implements, more data is needed on the extent of soil mixing, burial of topsoil and the weed seedbank, physical control of existing weeds and stimulation of emergence following the tillage event. Within the agronomic system, there is no research on optimal timing for a tillage event within the year. There are multiple studies to indicate that strategic tillage can reduce weed density, but in most studies, the weed density increases in subsequent years. This indicates that more research is required on the interaction of amelioration and weed ecology, and optimal weed management strategies following a strategic tillage event to maintain weeds at low densities. However, this review also highlights that, where the impacts of soil amelioration are understood, existing data on weed ecology can be applied to potentially determine impacts of amelioration on weed growth. 相似文献

The objective of the study was to evaluate the utilization of biofloc meal as a feed ingredient in enhancing the growth and health status of African catfish (Clarias gariepinus) juvenile. The study consisted of two experiments, that is digestibility and growth experiments. The digestibility of two biofloc meals produced with two different carbon sources, that is tapioca and molasses, were assessed in the digestibility experiment. Whereas the effect of four dietary treatments with different levels of biofloc meal, that is 0%, 5%, 10% and 20%, on the fish growth performance, feed utilization, immuno‐haematological response, antioxidant status and robustness against environmental stress were evaluated in the growth experiment. The results showed that the digestibility of dry matter, protein, lipid and phosphorus of biofloc grown using molasses as the carbon source were remarkably higher than that grown using tapioca (p < 0.05). The inclusion of biofloc meal in the diets at 10% and 20% resulted in higher feed intake, fish growth and final biomass and protein efficiency ratio, and lower feed conversion ratio (p < 0.05). Furthermore, the red blood cells counts, phagocytic, lysozyme activities and antioxidative capacity were significantly enhanced in the fish provided with diet containing 20% biofloc meal (p < 0.05).The fish survival following salinity stress test was higher in the treatments with biofloc meal at 10% and 20% inclusion levels. In conclusion, dietary inclusion of biofloc meal could improve the growth performance and health status of African catfish juvenile and an inclusion level of 20% could be recommended. 相似文献
