Wood-based materials are fabricated with adhesives composed of various materials derived from fossil fuels. It is difficult to identify replacements for these chemical adhesives. This study explored nanofiber technologies as an alternative to these adhesives. In this study, we focused on reinforcement effects of lingo-cellulose nanofiber (LCNF) on fiberboards made from softwood and hardwood fiber. We discuss the density effects of reinforcement with LCNF because the density of medium-density fiberboard (MDF), which is widely used for construction, is standardized at about 0.60–0.80 g/cm3. Fiberboards were manufactured with three densities (0.60, 0.75, and 1.00 g/cm3). For softwood fiberboards, the bending properties for LCNF-mixed boards were higher than those for the control fiberboards at all densities. In this paper, control fiberboard means fiberboard with fiber only. For hardwood fiberboards, the bending properties for LCNF-mixed fiberboard for 1.00 g/cm3-density board were higher than those for the control fiberboard. For internal bond strength (IB), the IB for LCNF-mixed fiberboard was higher than that for the control fiberboard. The thickness swelling (TS) and weight change (WC) with water absorption for fiberboards containing LCNF were lower than those for control fiberboards. As a conclusion, physical and mechanical properties of the resulting fiberboards were significantly improved with the addition of LCNF, especially for softwood fiberboards, due to close binding between LCNF and wood fibers. 相似文献

Peripheral B-lymphocyte clonality of 274 bovine leukemia virus-infected cattle with lymphocytosis was analyzed using clonality PCR based on sequences of the variable region of the bovine immunoglobulin H chain. None of the cattle showed monoclonal proliferation, while 10, 31, and 233 showed minor-clonal, oligoclonal, and polyclonal proliferation, respectively. A total of 163 cattle were analyzable the following year, and lymphocytosis was maintained in 157, indicating persistent lymphocytosis (PL). B-lymphocyte clonality of the 157 PL cattle was minor-clonal in 6 (3.8%), oligoclonal in 8 (5.1%), and polyclonal in 143 (91.1%). A higher rate of enzootic bovine leukosis (EBL) onset within a year was observed in PL cattle with minor-clonal (50.0% (3/6)) and oligoclonal (25.0% (2/8)) proliferation compared to those with polyclonal (5.6% (8/143)) proliferation. Minor-clonal and oligoclonal proliferation in PL cattle may be a prognosis factor for developing EBL. 相似文献

To determine the optimal temperature for juvenile (0 year old) marbled flounder Pseudopleuronectes yokohamae, juveniles of 40–54 mm standard length were reared at six temperature conditions in the range of 8–26 °C, using group- and individual-based methods. Growth of juveniles increased from 8 to 20 °C but decreased from 20 to 26 °C, irrespective of the rearing method used. Food intake was greatest at 20 and 24 °C compared with other temperatures, while feed conversion efficiency was greater at 20 °C than 24 °C in individual rearing. Individual rearing provided more information such as individual variations in growth and food consumption, suggesting the importance of individual-based experiments for exploring the optimal temperature for fish. 相似文献

Information on the distributions of demersal and benthic fishes is fundamental for stock assessment and management. Spatiotemporal
changes in the distribution patterns of five pleuronectid species (flathead flounder Hippoglossoides dubius, Kamchatka flounder Atheresthes evermanni, roughscale sole Clidoderma asperrimum, slime flounder Microstomus achne, and Korean flounder Glyptocephalus stelleri) off the Pacific coast of northern Honshu, Japan, at depths of 150–900 m, were examined using a generalized linear mixed
model (GLMM). Densities of flathead and Korean flounder were highest in the southernmost area, where the fish were small.
The body lengths of both of these species increased from 2003 to 2008, suggesting that an abundant year class was recruited
in 2003. The density of Kamchatka flounder was highest in the northern area. In roughscale sole and slime flounder, there
were no distinctive annual and latitudinal trends in the density distributions. The density distribution of Korean flounder
was bimodal; the peaks were at depths of 210 and 410 m. The body length increased as the depth increased from 150 to 410 m,

ABSTRACT: Glycerol galactoside (GG; floridoside + isofloridoside) and porphyra-334 (P-334) are contained in nori (Susabinori Porphyra yezoensis and Asakusanori Porphyra tenera ). Glycerol galactoside has been found to have bifidogenic growth stimulator activity and P-334 is known to have ultraviolet-absorbing activity in the UVA region of sunlight. These substances have, respectively, potential for application to pre-biotic foods and in cosmetics as a sunscreen. In the present study, to investigate the relationships between GG and P-334 contents and the quality of nori, we measured the GG and P-334 contents with other components (total protein, chlorophyll-a, β-carotene and phycobillins) that are related to the quality of nori samples produced from different production areas and with different qualities. We found that the GG content was closely negatively correlated with the contents of other components, whereas P-334 was positively correlated with the other components. From these results, it is suggested that low-quality nori is a potential source of GG, and as a source for P-334, scraps of nori produced during nori processing should be suitable. 相似文献

While many plants accumulate the majority of their photoassmilates as starch during the daytime, some plants accumulate sucrose. Although the existence of these high-sucrose leaves, called ‘sugar leaves’, has long been known, the physiological characteristics of sugar leaves compared to ‘starch leaves’ remain unclear. In this study, the physiological roles of starch accumulation in rice, which has typical sugar leaves, were investigated using a mutant with suppressed leaf-starch biosynthesis. When grown under controlled conditions with light intensity of 400 μmol m?2 s?1, the initial growth of the mutant was similar to that of the wild-type plant, even with a 6-h-light/18-h-dark photoperiod in which carbon resources for growth are required during the night. This finding indicates that rice does not rely on leaf starch as a carbon resource during the night. By contrast, under field conditions, the grain yields of the mutant were significantly lower than those of the wild type only when the plants were exposed to full sunlight during the ripening period. These results may indicate that starch accumulation in sugar leaves plays an important role in maintaining a high source capacity under sufficient light conditions rather than as a carbon resource for the plant’s growth at night. 相似文献

Wild boars (Sus scrofa) captured or found dead in Nagano Prefecture were surveyed for antibodies to Aujeszky’s disease virus (ADV), Erysipelothrix rhusiopathiae, porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV), and Toxoplasma gondii. While all 168 samples tested were negative for anti-ADV antibodies and all 140 samples tested were negative for anti-PRRSV antibodies, all 190 samples tested were positive for anti-E. rhusiopathiae antibodies and 12 of 180 samples were positive for anti-toxoplasma antibodies. These results suggest that since E. rhusiopathiae and T. gondii cause zoonotic diseases, in addition to wild boars being a potential source of infection for domestic pigs, caution should be taken when handling wild boars or eating wild boar meat because of the possibility of human infection. 相似文献

The effect of oral supplementation with astaxanthin of different Z-isomer ratios on ultraviolet (UV) light-induced skin damage in guinea pigs was investigated. Astaxanthin with a high Z-isomer content was prepared from the all-E-isomer via thermal isomerization. Intact (all-E)-astaxanthin and the prepared Z-isomer-rich astaxanthin were suspended in soybean oil and fed to guinea pigs for three weeks. The UV-light irradiation was applied to the dorsal skin on the seventh day after the start of the test diet supplementation, and skin parameters, such as elasticity, transepidermal water loss (TEWL), and pigmentation (melanin and erythema values), were evaluated. The accumulation of astaxanthin in the dorsal skin was almost the same after consumption of the all-E-isomer-rich astaxanthin diet (E-AST-D; total Z-isomer ratio = 3.2%) and the Z-isomer-rich astaxanthin diet (Z-AST-D; total Z-isomer ratio = 84.4%); however, the total Z-isomer ratio of astaxanthin in the skin was higher in the case of the Z-AST-D supplementation. Both diets inhibited UV light-induced skin-damaging effects, such as the reduction in elasticity and the increase in TEWL level. Between E-AST-D and Z-AST-D, Z-AST-D showed better skin-protective ability against UV-light exposure than E-AST-D, which might be because of the greater UV-light-shielding ability of astaxanthin Z-isomers than the all-E-isomer. Furthermore, supplementation with Z-AST-D resulted in a greater reduction in skin pigmentation caused by astaxanthin accumulation compared to that of E-AST-D. This study indicates that dietary astaxanthin accumulates in the skin and appears to prevent UV light-induced skin damage, and the Z-isomers are more potent oral sunscreen agents than the all-E-isomer. 相似文献

Cigarette smoking is one of the major risk factors of bladder cancer in humans. To date, however, there is no experimental evidence for the effects of inhalation exposure to mainstream cigarette smoke on bladder carcinogenesis. The purpose of the present study was to evaluate the effect of inhalation of mainstream cigarette smoke on mouse bladder carcinogenesis using a cigarette smoke inhalation exposure system. Six-week-old male C57BL mice were administered 0.025% N-butyl-N-(4-hydroxybutyl) nitrosamine (BBN) in their drinking water for 8 weeks and then divided into 2 groups and exposed to 0 or 300 mg/m3 wet total particulate matter mainstream cigarette smoke for 2 h per day, five times per week, for 22 weeks. The incidences of bladder tumors (papilloma and urothelial carcinoma) tended to increase in the cigarette smoke-exposed group (25.0%) compared with the controls (15.8%), albeit without a statistically significant difference. We also evaluated mRNA expression levels of cytochrome P450 (cyp) enzymes and proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA) in the bladder epithelium. Expression of cyp1a1 was significantly increased in the cigarette smoke-exposed group. Cigarette smoke exposure did not have a significant effect on the expression of cyp1a2, cyp 1b1, cyp 2a4, cyp 2b10, cyp 2e1, or PCNA. In conclusion, limited exposure to mainstream cigarette smoke for 22 weeks, caused a significant increase in cyp1a1 expression. This increase coupled with the nonsignificant increase in bladder tumors suggests that a longer period of exposure is required to clarify the effects of cigarette smoke on bladder carcinogenesis. 相似文献
