The genetic parameters for Brahman cattle under the tropical conditions of Mexico are scarce. Therefore, heritabilities, additive direct and maternal correlations, and genetic correlations for birth weight (BW) and 205 days adjusted weaning weight (WW205) were estimated in four Brahman cattle herds in Yucatan, Mexico. Parameters were estimated fitting a bivariate animal model, with 4,531 animals in the relationship matrix, of which 2,905 had BW and 2,264 had WW205. The number of sires and dams identified for both traits were 122 and 962, respectively. Direct heritability estimates for BW and WW205 were 0.41?±?0.09 and 0.43?±?0.09, and maternal heritabilities were 0.15?±?0.07 and 0.38?±?0.08, respectively. Genetic correlations between direct additive and maternal genetic effects for BW and WW205 were ?0.41?±?0.22 and ?0.50?±?0.15, respectively. The direct genetic, maternal, and phenotypic correlations between BW and WW205 were 0.77?±?0.09, 0.61?±?0.18, and 0.35, respectively. The moderate to high genetic parameter estimates suggest that genetic improvement by selection is possible for those traits. The maternal effects and their correlation with direct effects should be taken into account to reduce bias in genetic evaluations. 相似文献
A simultaneous treatment of BOD, phosphorous and ammonia in artificial wastewater was carried out in biofilm reactors with Luffa cylíndrica as organic support and compared with PVC's support under variations of dissolved oxygen of 1.5 a 3.0 mg l?1 in the same reactor. During semicontinous treatment, the removal of BOD (92.5%) with Luffa cilíndrica was higher than PVC support (80%). Nitrification only existed at levels of oxygen of 3 mg l?1, showed in the effluent a final concentration of ammonium of 17 and 19 mg l?1 for Luffa cilíndrica and PVC support, respectively. In reactors with Luffa cilíndrica a higher percentage of P removal (40%) was reached, while no elimination in reactors with PVC was observed. The formation of anaerobic-aerobic zones inside the natural support probably allowed the increase in the efficiency of removal of phosphorous. Oxidation of organic matter, P removal and nitrification can be achieved with the variation of oxygen inside of the same biofilm reactor using L. cylindrical as support material. 相似文献
Triticum–Thinopyrum amphiploids arose from the need to obtain forage grasses highly resistant to pest, drought, soil salinity and frost and they
can be used as efficient bridges to transfer desired genes from wheatgrass species to wheat. One of them is trigopiro SH16
INTA, it was introduced in Argentina in 1947 but its genomic composition was unknown. The aim of this work was to determine
the chromosome number and genomic and chromosome composition of trigopiro SH16 INTA in order to use it in breeding programs.
The simultaneous use of the in situ hybridization technique with different probes (genomic DNA of Th. ponticum (Podp.) Barkworth et D.R. Dewey, pSc119.2 and pAs1) allowed us to conclude that the chromosome number of trigopiro SH16 is
2n = 42 and the genome composition would be: 14 chromosomes of the B genome, the 2D and 4D chromosome pairs of wheat, 14 chromosomes
of the J genome of Thinopyrum and the remaining chromosomes probably belong to the A genome of wheat. 相似文献
Green leafy vegetables (Spinacea oleracea, Cnidoscolus aconitifolius, and Solanum americanum) contain a high amount of beta-carotene (27-52 mg/100 g of dry sample) and lutein (140-193 mg/100 g of dry sample). The amount of beta-carotene and lutein released from the food matrix by the action of digestive enzymes ranged from 22 to 67% and from 27 to 77%, respectively. There was a significant correlation between the enzymatic release of carotenoids (lutein + beta-carotene) and the content of Klason lignin, nonstarch polysaccharides, and resistant protein. The carotenoids released by the in vitro colonic fermentation ranged from 2 to 11%, and part of them (0.251-4.03 mg/100 g of original dry sample) remained intact in the fermentation media and could be potentially absorbed in the colon. A significant part of carotenoids seems to be unavailable in the intestinal tract (16% in S. oleracea to 58% in C. aconitifolius). 相似文献
The vegetation of the Campinaranas occurs in humid areas with hydromorphic sandy soils at the Amazon region. Thus, the determination and in situ monitoring of moisture content in Campinarana soils, besides the detection of subsurface layers are key measures for studying these soil–vegetation systems. Also, the application of ground penetrating radar (GPR) in deep sandy sedimentary sequence of Amazonia is a promising tool to enhance the knowledge on depositional and soil formation features.
Materials and methods
We studied representative soils of the Campinaranas at the National Park of Viruá, state of Roraima (Brazilian Amazonia), through the use of geophysical methods (soil moisture sensors and GPR). The study was applied in four sandy soils. Besides chemical and physical analysis of soils, soil moisture sensors were installed for monitoring during an entire hydrological year (2010/2011), and performed the calibration of sensors , coupled with imaging of the soil along transects with GPR.
Results and discussion
As a result of calibration of the soil moisture sensors we obtained a general equation with an R2 greater than 0.9. There is an influence of soil moisture content and soil temperature in the distribution of vegetation types in Campinaranas. The use of GPR identified some determinants characteristics in these soils for the differentiating the Campinaranas, represented by spodic and C horizons.
Conclusions
The spodic horizons in soils under Forest Campinarana provided potential errors in the determination of soil moisture, requiring calibration data for the precise use of this device. The investigation of the soil through the GPR showed interesting results, which allowed continuous visualization of the main soil horizons along transects in the phytophysiognomies of Campinaranas. 相似文献
In order to combine the ability of legumes to fix atmospheric nitrogen and the cruciferous capacities to mobilize soil nutrients and herbicide action, the aim of this work was to evaluate an alternative winter intercrop (faba bean-rapeseed) as a replacement of Italian ryegrass culture in a rotational system with maize as summer crop. For this purpose, two adjacent plots were used during three agronomic years (2011–2012, 2012–2013 and 2013–2014) to evaluate the agronomic performance through the forage production, nutritional composition of forage and silage, and the effects on soil fertility. The Italian ryegrass was cultivated under conventional management: using chemical fertilization and recommended dosages of herbicides. The faba bean-rapeseed intercrop was cultivated under an alternative management: organic fertilization and less herbicide supply. The intercrop provides higher forage yield per hectare than Italian ryegrass, with greater protein (kg ha?1) and similar energy (GJ ha?1) yields. The intercrop allows reducing the inputs of chemical fertilization and herbicides, and it has a positive effect on the balance of soil nutrients, especially increasing the potassium, calcium and magnesium contents. The results show that faba bean-rapeseed intercrop could be an alternative to the Italian ryegrass as winter crop. 相似文献
Soil pollution with heavy metals is a worldwide environmental problem. Phytoremediation through phytoextraction and phytostabilization appears to be a promising technology for the remediation of polluted soils. It is important to strongly emphasize that the ultimate goal of a heavy metal remediation process must be not only to remove the heavy metals from the soil (or instead to reduce their bioavailability and mobility) but also to restore soil quality. Soil quality is defined as the capacity of a given soil to perform its functions. Soil microbial properties are increasingly being used as biological indicators of soil quality due to their quick response, high sensitivity, and, above all, capacity to provide information that integrates many environmental factors. Indeed, microbial properties are among the most ecologically relevant indicators of soil quality. Consequently, microbial monitoring of the recovery of soil quality is often carried out during heavy metal phytoremediation processes. However, soil microbial properties are highly context dependent and difficult to interpret. For a better interpretation of microbial properties as indicators of soil quality, they may be grouped within categories of higher ecological relevance, such as soil functions, ecosystem health attributes, and ecosystem services.
The aim of the present study was to establish the degree of diversity of porcine reproductive and respiratory virus (PRRSV) isolates that circulate in the same geographical area in different years. Nucleotide sequences of open reading frame (ORF) 5 were determined for 28 Spanish field PRRSV isolates from different years and three European-type modified live virus vaccines. Sequences were aligned using Clustal W software and a phylogenetic tree constructed using the neighbour joining method. The results of pairwise homology comparisons of nucleotide and deduced amino acid sequences of these PRRSV isolates indicate a tendency for heterogeneity to increase with time. The study of the phylogenetic tree revealed that Spanish PRRSV isolates constitute two well-defined clades and a group of unrelated sequences. The observed heterogeneity does not appear to be due to temporal evolution exclusively. Early and recent isolates group themselves into different clusters independently of the time of isolation, indicating the co-circulation of different variants and the maintenance of variants of the original isolates in the field. 相似文献
An analytical method for the simultaneous determination of 51 pesticides in commercial honeys was developed. Honey (10 g) was dissolved in water/methanol (70:30; 10 mL) and transferred to a C(18) column (1 g) preconditioned with acetonitrile and water. Pesticides were subsequently eluted with a hexane/ethyl acetate mixture (50:50) and determined by gas chromatography with electron impact mass spectrometric detection in the selected ion monitoring mode (GC-MS-SIM). Spiked blank samples were used as standards to counteract the matrix effect observed in the chromatographic determination. Pesticides were confirmed by their retention times, their qualifier and target ions, and their qualifier/target abundance ratios. Recovery studies were performed at 0.1, 0.05, and 0.025 microg/g fortification levels for each pesticide, and the recoveries obtained were >86% with relative standard deviations of <10%. Good resolution of the pesticide mixture was achieved in approximately 41 min. The detection limits of the method ranged from 0.1 to 6.1 microg/kg for the different pesticides studied. The developed method is linear over the range assayed, 25-200 microg/L, with determination coefficients of >0.996. The proposed method was applied to the analysis of pesticides in honey samples, and low levels of a few pesticides (dichlofluanid, ethalfluralin, and triallate) were detected in some samples. 相似文献
