Objective
To report the outcome of partial external mitral annuloplasty in dogs with congestive heart failure (CHF) due to mitral regurgitation caused by myxomatous mitral valve degeneration (MMVD).Animals, materials and methods
Nine client-owned dogs with CHF due to mitral regurgitation caused by MMVD. Surgery consisted of a double row of pledget-butressed continuous suture lines placed into the left ventricle parallel and just ventral to the atrioventricular groove between the subsinuosal branch of the left circumflex coronary artery and the paraconal branch of the left coronary artery.Results
Two dogs died during surgery because of severe hemorrhage. Two dogs died 12 and 36 h after surgery because of acute myocardial infarction. Three dogs were euthanized 2 and 4 weeks after surgery because of progression of CHF, 1 was euthanized 30 days after surgery for non-cardiac disease, and 1 survived for 48 months. In the 5 dogs that survived to discharge there was no significant change in the left atrium to aortic ratio with surgery (3.6 ± 0.56 before surgery; 3.1 ± 0.4 after surgery; p = 0.182), and no significant change in mitral regurgitant fraction in 4 dogs in which this measurement was made (78.7 ± 2.0% before surgery; 68.7 ± 7.5% after surgery; p = 0.09).Conclusions
Partial external mitral annuloplasty in dogs with CHF due to MMVD was associated with high perioperative mortality and most dogs that survived to discharge failed to show clinically relevant palliation from this procedure. Consequently, partial external mitral annuloplasty is not a viable option for dogs with mitral regurgitation due to MMVD that has progressed to the stage of CHF. 相似文献312.

Detomidine (30 mcg/kg), xylazine (1.1 mg/kg) and xylazine/morphine (1.1 mg/kg and 0.75 mg/kg with 300 mg maximum dose) were compared in horses admitted for broncho-alveolar lavage. Horses (n=99) were randomized and clinicians performing the procedure were unaware of the sedation used. Horses were assessed during the procedure and for the next 2 hours. A significant number of xylazine/morphine-sedated horses showed excitement (p<0.05). The frequency of sinus block or arrest and second-degree atrioventricular block was significantly greater with detomidine. Detomidine-sedated horses were significantly more depressed than either xylazine or xylazine/morphine treated animals. Heart rate was significantly greater in horses given xylazine/morphine by 60 min. There was no significant difference between drug treatments related to reactions to the procedure or respiratory rate depression. The study indicated that all three methods are suitable for standing restraint. The more frequent adverse side effects (circling, muscle fasciculations, head pressing) accompanying xylazine/morphine should be considered. 相似文献

A specially designed radio frequency receiver coil was used in a low-field-strength (0.1 T) magnetic resonance imager to improve the image quality of the Beagle brain. The aim was to obtain better distinction of anatomic details with a better signal-to-noise ratio in shorter imaging time. Objective: To evaluate lymphocyte populations in stifle synovium and synovial fluid of dogs with degenerative cranial cruciate ligament rupture (CCLR). Study Design: Prospective clinical study. Animals: Dogs (n=25) with stifle arthritis and CCLR, 7 dogs with arthritis associated with cartilage degeneration (osteoarthritis [OA]), and 12 healthy Beagle dogs with intact CCL. Methods: Arthritis was graded radiographically in CCLR dogs. After collection of joint tissues, mononuclear cells were isolated and subsequently analyzed using flow cytometry for expression of CD3, CD4, CD8, and CD21. Results: The proportions of CD4+ T helper lymphocytes, CD8+ cytotoxic T lymphocytes, and CD3+CD4?CD8? T lymphocytes were increased in synovium from dogs with CCLR compared with synovium from healthy Beagle dogs (P<.05). The proportion of CD3+CD4?CD8? T lymphocytes in synovial fluid was increased in dogs with CCLR compared with dogs with OA (P<.05). In dogs with CCLR, the proportion of CD3+CD4?CD8? T lymphocytes in synovial fluid was inversely correlated with radiographic arthritis (SR=?0.68, P<.005). Conclusion: Lymphocytic inflammation of stifle synovium and synovial fluid is an important feature of the CCLR arthropathy. Lymphocyte populations include T lymphocytes expressing CD4 and CD8, and CD3+CD4?CD8? T lymphocytes. Presence of CD3+CD4?CD8? T lymphocytes was associated with development of stifle synovitis.
