Herbicidal characteristics of the experimental compound LGC-40863 (ISO proposed common name: pyribenzoxim) were investigated in greenhouse and field. In the greenhouse, LGC-40863 had strong post-emergent activity on various grass and broadleaf weeds including Echinochloa crus-galli L. Beauv., Alopecurus myosuroides Huds. and Polygonum hydropiper L., while it was safe in rice (Oryza sativa L.), wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) and zoysiagrass (Zoysia japonica Steud; (a turf species). Among important rice weeds, E. crus-galli was controlled over a wide window from the one-leaf to the six-leaf stages. In the field, LGC-40863 provided excellent control of E. crus-galli (>95%) at 30 to 40 g ha-1 when applied alone, or at 15 to 30 g ha-1 when applied in combination with pendimethalin, while it did not cause injury to rice at up to 60 g ha-1. These results suggest that LGC-40863 has potential as a new selective post-emergent herbicide in rice. © 1997 SCI 相似文献

Seaweeds have been used as a food for centuries in Asia and are increasingly exploited as a source for dietary supplements, animal feed, chemicals, and biofuels. In recent years, there has been an increase in the prevalence of diseases and pests in these aquaculture crops, with a subsequent reduction in their quantity and commercial value. In this article, we review diseases that have been reported in the scientific literature for species of red and brown seaweeds. We have focused on the major seaweed crops grown in Asia, where much of this production is centered. The giant freshwater prawn Macrobrachium rosenbergii larvae have apposition eyes and are positively phototactic, whereas the postlarvae (PL) have superposition eyes and are negatively phototactic. M. rosenbergii has colour vision as early as larval stage. We discovered that M. rosenbergii alters background colour preference after metamorphosis from larvae to PL in association with nature of phototaxis. The test circular glass aquaria covered with a pair of two‐colour papers contained with a group of 100 larvae or 20 Pl, and the number of individuals in each colour background was recorded five times for each colour pair. The background colours tested were light blue, green, yellow, red, white and black. The numbers of larvae or PL in each colour background of different pairs were analysed by the Thurstone's law of comparative judgment. In the larvae, significant bias towards yellow was evident. In the PL, of the four pairings of black with other colours, all biased to black. The mean z‐scores were highest for yellow in the larvae, and for black in the PL. To determine the possible background brightness preference of the larvae and PL, six different colour backgrounds were presented in pairs. The larvae significantly preferred light blue over dark blue, white over yellow and white over black. The PL exhibited reversed preference. The relationship between z‐scores and light reflectance levels of five colour papers was significantly positive in the larvae and negative in the PL. The introduction of novel quality characteristics from wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) landraces can enhance the genetic diversity of current wheat breeding programs. The composition of starch and protein in wheat is important when determining the end‐product quality, particularly for white salted noodles (WSN). Quality characteristics that contribute to the production of improved WSN include high starch pasting peak viscosity, low amylose content, high proportion of A‐type granules, low protein content, soft grain texture, and high protein quality as measured by SDS sedimentation volume. A survey of 133 wheat landraces from Afghanistan, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Iran, Syria, and Turkey was conducted to examine the genetic variability of starch and protein quality characteristics. Two wheat cultivars, Rosella and Meering, were used as the quality controls. The variation in starch pasting peak viscosities observed among the wheat landraces had a range of 175–295 Rapid Visco Analyser units (RVU), where 52 of the landraces were not significantly different from Rosella, a commercial soft grain wheat with high pasting properties. The amylose content of the landrace population was 23.4–30.2%, where 17 landraces had significantly lower values than Rosella. The proportion of A‐type granules was 60.5–73.9%, where 112 landraces had significantly higher values than Rosella. The grain texture hardness score was 28.0–99.3, the total protein content was 8.0–15.1%, and the adjusted SDS sedimentation volume (SDS/protein) was 1.6–7.0 mL/%P. The landrace AUS4635 had high starch pasting peak viscosity, high breakdown, low amylose content, low protein content, soft grain texture, and high protein quality flour. Extruded pellets were prepared from normal corn starch using a corotating twin‐screw extruder (25:1 L/D ratio, 31 mm diameter screw), and then expanded by heating in a conventional microwave oven for 70 sec. The effects of gelatinization level and moisture content of the extruded pellets on the morphology and physical properties of the microwave‐expanded products such as puffing efficiency, expansion bulk volume, and bulk density were investigated. The expanded shape and air cell structure differed according to the degree of gelatinization of the pellets. Maximum puffing efficiency and expansion volume with the pellets containing 11% moisture were achieved at 52% gelatinization. For this level of gelatinization, starch was extruded at 90°C barrel temperature. In addition, the moisture content of the pellets critically affected the expansion behavior. The maximum puffing efficiency and expansion volume were achieved in a moisture range of 10~13%. For optimum product shape and uniform air cell distribution, the pellets should undergo sudden release of the superheated vapor during the microwave‐heating. Weight-average molecular weight (Mw) and chain length of eight amylopectins isolated from one Australian, two United States, and five Korean wheats were measured using multiangle laser light scattering (MALLS) and refractive index (RI) detectors operated in a microbatch mode, and in a high-performance size-exclusion chromatography (HPSEC) mode. The Mw of amylopectins measured in the microbatch mode ranged from 29 × 106 to 349 × 106. Three amylopectins (Geuru, Tapdong and WW) showed significantly high Mw values over 200 × 106. The Mw measured by HPSEC mode with MALLS-RI detectors (42 × 106 to 73 × 106) were significantly less than those obtained in the microbatch mode with exception of dark northern spring hard wheat (DNS) amylopectin, indicating the possible variation of Mw by the analysis mode. Root-mean square of the radius of gyration (Rg) also was greater when the microbatch mode was used (122–340 vs. 95–116 nm). Chain length distributions of debranched amylopectins of different cultivars, measured by the HPSEC-MALLS-RI system, were similar. Weight average degrees of polymerization (DPw) of A, B1, and larger B chains (B≥2) had ranges of 13–22, 26–46, and 58–73, respectively, and mass ratios of A and B chains ranged from 0.7 to 1.1. 相似文献

Substitution of Canola Meal for Soybean Meal in Diets for Channel Catfish Ictalurus punctatus 总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3
Abstract Canola meal was used in channel catfish Ictalurus punctatus diets at levels of 0, 15.4, 30.8, 46.2 and 61.6%, by progressively replacing (on an equal nitrogen basis) 0, 25, 50, 75, or 100% of solvent-extracted soybean meal in the control diet. The feeds were formulated to contain approximately 29% crude protein and 2,650 kcal of digestible energy/kg on an air-dry basis. Each diet was fed to juvenile channel catfish to satiation twice daily for 10 wk. Fish fed the diets containing the two lowest levels of canola meal (15.4 and 30.8%) had similar weight gains, feed intakes, feed utilization efficiencies, and percent survivals relative to the group fed the control diet. Weight gains and feed intakes declined significantly as the dietary levels of canola meal were increased to 46.2% or higher, probably because of reductions in diet palatability and some impairment of feed utilization due to the presence of increased levels of antinutritional factors, particularly glucosinolates. Whole body percentages for moisture and crude protein were unaffected by the dietary treatments. Body ash contents, however, were lowest for fish fed the control diets but were essentially the same for fish fed the other diets. Fish fed the diet containing 30.8% canola meal had lowest body fat content but this effect may not have been diet related. Values for red blood cell concentration, hemoglobin, mean corpuscular volume, mean corpuscular hemoglobin and mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration were not affected by dietary canola meal level, but hematocrit was higher (although not always significant) for fish fed the control diet. The results of this study suggest that canola meal can comprise about 31% of the diet of channel catfish by replacing half of the amount of soybean meal used in the control diet without adversely affecting growth or any other aspect of performance. 相似文献

In the present study, a peptide showing anti-inflammatory activity was isolated from Arctoscopus (A.) japonicus sandfish protein hydrolysate by hydrolysis and analyzed using ultrafiltration (UF), prep-high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), and sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE). Effects of heat, pH, salt, and intestinal proteases on stability of the isolated anti-inflammatory peptide were determined. The nitric oxide (NO) scavenging activities of the peptide from meat and roe hydrolysates were 18.43 ± 3.21% and 52.35 ± 8.85%, respectively, at a concentration of 0.1 mg/mL. The anti-inflammatory peptide maintained a similar level of NO scavenging activity to the control in the presence of salt, whereas it showed no resistance to heat, pH, and intestinal proteases. These results suggest that the anti-inflammatory peptide derived from A. japonicus could be used for producing functional foods, protein supplements, and pharmaceutical agents.
