A racing pigeon (Columba livia var. domestica), a straggler from Taiwan, was sheltered in Nara Prefecture, Japan in 2020. This pigeon showed hemolysis and elevated levels of hepatobiliary and muscle enzymes. Gametocytes of Haemoproteus columbae (Apicomplexa: Haemosporida) were observed within the host erythrocytes in thin blood smears. A partial sequence of the mitochondrial cytochrome b gene amplified from blood DNA was identical to the lineage HAECOL1 previously reported from pigeons worldwide. This is the first record of H. columbae infection in a sheltered bird in Japan. 相似文献

Canine parvovirus (CPV) was detected in faeces from dogs with diarrhoea by a specific slide agglutination test using latex particles coated with anti-CPV monoclonal antibody (LA-anti-CPV). The agglutination of LA-anti-CPV with CPV on a glass slide was evident macroscopically within 2 min. The sensitivity of the latex agglutination (LA) test was similar to that of the hemagglutination test. The LA test is available for the rapid diagnosis of CPV infection at an animal hospital. 相似文献

Swim bladder tumors were detected in three out of 28 wavy medakas aged about 2 years old, all of which displayed abnormal swimming patterns caused by their spinal curvature. The tumors were located in the dorsal abdominal cavity. The swim bladder lumen was not detected in the region where it was originally assumed to be located, and that region was replaced with adipose tissue. The tumors were non-invasive, expansile, and encapsulated solid masses composed of a homogenous population of well-differentiated, densely packed, gas glandular epithelium-like cells. The tumor masses were connected to the rete mirabile, but the tumor cells did not infiltrate into them. Histopathologically, these tumors were diagnosed as adenomas originating from the gas glandular epithelium of the swim bladder. Spontaneous swim bladder tumors are rare in medaka, with an incidence of 0.02%; however, in the present study of wavy medaka, the incidence was much higher (10.7%). The long-term physical effects on the gas gland caused by swim bladder deformation considered to be a secondary effect of the spinal curvature may be an important factor in the proliferation of the gas glandular epithelium in the wavy medaka, resulting in the higher incidence of swim bladder tumors. 相似文献

Effects of intramuscular fat deposition on the chemical composition, tenderness, and free amino acids (FAA) concentration of beef were studied using various classified carcasses of 21 Japanese Black (Wagyu) steers. The Beef Marbling Standard (BMS) No., judged on the market in 1998, and fat content, ranged from 2 to 10 and 4.8 to 39.0% in the M. longissimus thoracis, respectively. Moisture content was negatively correlated with the fat content (r =?0.98, P < 0.01). In contrast, protein content was relatively constant up to approximately 23% fat, corresponding to BMS No.4, and decreased as the fat content increased. Cooking loss was also constant up to approximately 28% fat, corresponding to BMS No.4, and markedly decreased with fat content increase. The beef in these cases were, however, classified into BMS No. around 9 and 11, respectively, according to the BMS model in 1988. A negative correlation was found between the shear‐force value and the fat content (r =?0.83, P < 0.05). Most FAA concentrations on the wet weight of meat were correlated negatively with the fat content, except glutamine, and this negative relationship was still observed when the concentrations were recalculated on the basis of protein. These results indicate that higher marbling Wagyu beef (above approx. 23% fat) would have an extremely lower content of protein, which would partly explain the lower cooking loss and FAA with fat increase. In addition, some other reasons not relating to protein content (e.g. high fat content preventing the breakdown of protein to FAA) seem to explain the negative correlation between fat and FAA. 相似文献

The objective of this study was to develop an in‐straw dilution method suitable for direct transfer of vitrified bovine sexed embryos. Embryo sexing was performed by molecular diagnosis. Several sexed and vitrified‐warmed embryos were transferred after evaluation of morphologically embryonic survival at warming and in‐straw dilution (Evaluation group). The other embryos were immediately directly transferred to recipients without first being expelled from the straws after in‐straw dilution (Non‐evaluation group). The pregnancy rates of vitrified sexed embryos were 38.7% and 34.8% in the Evaluation group and Non‐evaluation group, respectively, which were not significantly different. The viability of lower quality embryos before vitrification tended to be lower (P = 0.087) than that of the higher quality embryos regardless of evaluating embryos after warming and in‐straw dilution. The abortion rates were similar, and there was no difference between the two groups (13.9% and 12.5%, respectively). These results demonstrate that vitrified bovine sexed embryos can be vitrified and diluted by the in‐straw method and that the vitrified and warmed sexed embryos can develop to term. 相似文献

In vitro gas production (GP) method was used to investigate associative effects on ruminal digestion when grains (corn or barley) were supplemented to spring pasture and autumn pasture. Pasture (75%) was incubated with 25% corn or barley and gas production was monitored up to 96 h. After incubation, the residues were used to determine dry matter and organic matter digestibility (DMD and OMD). Gas production parameters were analyzed by applying a single exponential equation. Organic matter effective degradability (OMED) was determined from GP parameters and OMD. The positive associative effects on the rate of GP, DMD, OMD and OMED were observed when spring pasture was incubated with corn. However, similar effects were not observed in a barley mixture. However, for autumn pasture, both corn and barley mixtures showed positive associative effects on rate of GP, OMD and OMED. The results of this study indicated that supplementation of corn would be better than barley for spring pasture with high water‐soluble carbohydrate contents, whereas both grain supplementations were effective to obtain positive associative effects on the rate of GP and OMED for autumn pasture with high cell wall content. 相似文献

In order to elucidate the effects of swim bladder inflation failure on swim bladder carcinogenesis, we investigated the sequential histopathological changes of swim bladders at 13, 24, 35, and 53 days post-hatch (dph) in medakas with an uninflated swim bladder, which was experimentally induced by denying access to the air–water interface between 0 and 6 dph. The reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels were measured at 24 dph. An uninflated swim bladder was induced in 47.3% of the fish denied access to the air–water interface (the denied group). The total incidence of swim bladder adenoma was 54.1% in the denied group; however, these tumors were observed in all fish with an uninflated swim bladder. In fact, these tumors were observed from 13 dph and onwards. The TBARS levels of the juveniles showed a 2.6-fold increase in fish with an uninflated swim bladder in the denied group compared to that in the control group. It is speculated that swim bladder inflation failure has some effects on the gas gland to produce ROS, leading to DNA damage in the gas glandular epithelium, which develops into swim bladder adenomas. Consequently, it is concluded that denying access to the air-water interface between 0 and 6 dph in medaka is an easy method of inducing swim bladder tumors in a short-term period, and is a useful method for producing tumor-bearing fish. 相似文献

In a previous study, the three-dimensional structures of mitochondria in type I and type IIb muscle fibers of chicken were analyzed. The study reported differences in the shape of the mitochondria and the distribution of lipid droplets. In this study, we three-dimensionally analyzed mitochondria and lipid droplets of type II muscle fiber subtypes IIa, IIb, and IIc of chicken lateral iliotibial muscle in the same field of view using correlative light electron microscopy (CLEM) and array tomography methods. The reconstructed images showed that the mitochondria of type IIa muscle fiber were thick and aligned along the myofibrils, and many lipid droplets were embedded in the mitochondria. The mitochondria of type IIb muscle fibers were intermittent, aligned along the myofibrils, and showed contact between adjacent horizontal mitochondria. No lipid droplets were observed in type IIb muscle fiber. In type IIc muscle fiber, we observed irregularly shaped mitochondria with small diameters aligned along the myofibrils. Lipid droplets not only were embedded in the mitochondria but also existed independently in some cases. The combination of array tomography and CLEM methods enabled three-dimensional electron microscopic observation of mitochondria in different subtypes of type II muscle fibers. The subtypes of type II muscle fibers differed in mitochondrial occupancy and morphology and in lipid droplet distribution, and characteristics that had been demonstrated biochemically were also demonstrated ultrastructurally. 相似文献
