Otitis media of the left ear was diagnosed by video otoscopic examination in a 7-year-old, intact male Shih-tzu dog (weight, 5.1 kg), that also had three complex ceruminous adenomas and a Pseudomonas aeruginosa infection in the left ear canal. In such cases, total ear canal ablation is usually required. However, a complete cure was achieved in the present case without total ear canal ablation. The complex ceruminous adenomas were excised using a diode laser, and repeated cleansing of the tympanic cavity and ear canal was implemented using a video otoscope. As a result, the ear canal was closed in a U-form, and the otitis media was cured. 相似文献

We investigated the effect of supplemental vitamin E on the peripheral blood leukocyte population in Japanese Black calves. Twenty-six calves kept at the same farm were studied. They were divided into two groups; thirteen calves received 300 IU/day of vitamin E orally from 1 to 3 months of age (VE group), and the other thirteen calves did not receive the vitamin E supplement (control group). The VE group showed a higher serum vitamin E concentration at 2 and 3 months of age compared with the control group (P<0.01). The numbers of CD3+ cells and CD4+ cells were higher in the VE group than in the control group, and the difference was statistically significant at 3 months of age (P<0.05). The numbers of CD21+ cells were higher in the VE group than in the control group, and the difference was statistically significant at 2 months of age (P<0.05). The numbers of CD335+ cells
tended to be higher in the VE group than in the control group. The numbers of CD8+ cells and CD14+ cells tended to be higher in the VE group than in the control group at 3 and 4 months of age. This study demonstrated that the supplementation of suckling Japanese Black calves with vitamin E might affect the numbers of some immune cell types in the peripheral blood. 相似文献

ABSTRACT: Hatchery-reared black sea bream Acanthopagrus schlegeli juveniles averaging 0.05 g in body weight were fed either a control diet (commercial diet) or an experimental diet in which the commercial diet was fortified with 50 mg l -ascorbyl 2-monophosphate Mg (APM)/100 g diet for 50 days. Calcium ascorbate supplemented as a vitamin mixture in the control diet was completely destroyed during storage. Fortification with APM significantly increased the ascorbic acid levels in the muscle, liver, brain and eye. Although APM fortification did not influence growth, survival or fish body composition, adipocyte diameter in the intraperitoneal fat body (IPF) was significantly reduced. After the feeding experiment, the fish were kept for 39 days without feeding. Fortification with APM resulted in high survival, high muscle protein retention and low body weight loss. The results suggested the necessity of fortification with an adequate amount of ascorbate in the diet. While fatty acid compositions of the IPF, muscle and liver were not significantly influenced by APM fortification, characteristic changes in the fatty acid profile were found after starvation. Vitamin C and highly unsaturated fatty acids seemed crossly interactive in relation to lipolysis activity in black sea bream juveniles. 相似文献

In order to understand the effects of the automatic milk replacer feeding system on calf health, we examined the effect of frequent milk feeding on curd formation in the abomasum using ultrasonographic imaging. Eight male Holstein calves were divided into a milk-replacer group and a fresh milk group. Calves were fed twice a day to 12 days after birth (Period A). From 13 days, calves were fed six times a day (Period B). The abomasal fluid was taken by paracentesis. In both periods A and B, the fresh milk group formed bigger curds faster than the milk replacer group. The curd score of the milk replacer group in period B at 2 h was significant lower than those of both groups in period A. The pH in the abomasum was lower in period B than in period A. We could not identify the location of the abomasum in the milk replacer group during period B at almost time points. Our experiment suggests the possibility that frequent feeding of milk replacer causes incomplete hydrolysis of κ-casein as well as curd formation, thus reducing the digestibility compared to the feeding of the milk replacer twice per day or frequent feeding of fresh milk. 相似文献

Endostatin, a fragment of collagen XVIII, is known as an endogenous angiogenesis
inhibitor, and its serum concentration increases in various cardiovascular diseases.
T-type Ca2+ channel, low voltage-activated Ca2+ channel, is not
expressed in adult ventricular myocytes. Re-expression of T-type Ca2+ channels
in cardiac myocytes is thought to be involved in the development of cardiac hypertrophy.
We examined the effects of endostatin on T-type Ca2+ channel current by
whole-cell patch clamp technique in freshly isolated adult guinea pig ventricular
myocytes, which exceptionally express T-type Ca2+ channels. Although endostatin
300 ng/ml had no effect on L-type Ca2+
current, it significantly inhibited T-type Ca2+ current. These data indicate
that endostatin can be an endogenous inhibitor of T-type Ca2+ channels in the

An 8-year-old, spayed, female Shiba dog was presented to a referring veterinarian with a
complaint of chronic diarrhea and anorexia. Ultrasound and radiographs revealed an
irregular mass in the pelvic cavity. The mass and the affected section of colon were
surgically removed. Histopathological examination revealed multifocal coalescing
granulomas and effaced intestinal structures. Central necrotic debris surrounded by
multinucleated giant cells, lymphocytes, plasma cells and neutrophils was observed.
Numerous, irregularly branched hyphae with pale basophilic, thin walls and occasional
bulbous enlargements at the tips were present. Polymerase chain reaction identified
Basidiobolus ranarum, successfully confirming a definitive diagnosis of
basidiobolomycosis. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of intestinal
basidiobolomycosis in a dog. 相似文献

Although d ‐glucose increased the root growth of Arabidopsis seedlings, d ‐allose (a d ‐glucose epimer at the third carbon atom) inhibited the root growth at concentrations >0.1 mmol L?1 and the inhibition increased with increasing d ‐allose concentrations. Allitol (a reduction product of d ‐allose) did not show any significant effect on the growth. The addition of d ‐glucose into the growth medium of Arabidopsis reversed the d ‐allose‐induced growth inhibition, which suggests that the inhibition is not caused by the toxicity of the accumulation of d ‐allose and/or its metabolites in the seedlings. d ‐Allose is phosphorylated by hexokinase, using ATP and phosphate, to allose‐6‐phosphate, with no known capacity for further metabolism. The addition of phosphate into the growth medium did not affect the d ‐allose‐induced growth inhibition and d ‐allose did not reduce the ATP level in the roots. These results suggest that the inhibition is not due to phosphate starvation and ATP depletion. d ‐Mannoheptulose, a specific competitive inhibitor of hexokinase, defeated the d ‐allose‐induced growth inhibition. Hexokinase is known to have a sugar‐sensing function and possibly triggers a signal cascade, resulting in the change of several gene expressions. Therefore, the phosphorylation of d ‐allose by hexokinase might trigger a signal cascade, resulting in the inhibition of Arabidopsis root growth. This is probably a useful model system for studies of the hexokinase‐mediated sugar‐sensing function and for developing new types of weed‐control agents. 相似文献
