Quantitative structure activity relationships (QSAR) and comparative molecular field analysis (CoMFA) are applied in order to explain the aroma of 46 bell-pepper aroma compounds. Biological activities log(1/c) values are used, where c stands for the detection threshold value of the aroma compound in water. Results of conventional QSAR and CoMFA are both satisfactory in statistical significance and predictive ability. We construct a qualitative model using the graphic features of CoMFA together with the results of "classical" QSAR analysis, which is performed by multiple linear regression. Finally, the human olfactory detection threshold values of excluded pyrazines are successfully predicted. This makes CoMFA and QSAR two important tools for designing new aroma compounds and in elucidating the mechanism of odor-receptor interaction.  相似文献

Fluxes of 28 elements to Lake Michigan are calculated from literature data on sedimentation rates and concentrations in sediments and water. Lake Michigan residence times are roughly 104 lower than oceanic residence times. A mass balance has been formulated for 24 elements, with soil and aerosol as the only sources. These sources provide fourfold excesses of Cu, Hg, Sb, Se, and V, and order of magnitude deficits for Ca, Mg, Na, and Cl, but account (to within 50%) for the observed inputs of Ag, Al, As, Br, Co, Cr, Fe, K, La, Mn, S, Si, Sc, Th, and Zn. Except for Al, Co, La, Si, and Th, deposition from aerosol accounts for at least one-fifth of the total input.  相似文献

Objectives To assess a method for monitoring depth of anaesthesia using components of middle latency auditory evoked potential (AEP) waveforms during anaesthesia with fentanyl/fluanisone and midazolam. Study design Prospective observational study. Animals Five female Wistar rats weighing between 210 and 250 g. Methods Implanted electrodes were used to record AEPs in animals receiving five doses of anaesthetic. Recordings were made at 5 minutes post‐injection (deep anaesthesia; no pedal withdrawal response, PWR) and then at 25 minutes (light anaesthesia; strong PWR). Responses showed five characteristic peaks occurring at 11, 14, 23, 42 and 68 ms that were measured for latency of occurrence and peak amplitude. Results Auditory evoked potential peaks P14, N23 and P42 were increased significantly in latency with successive anaesthetic injections [avg. F(1,4) = 12.53, p < 0.001; avg. F(1,4) = 10.6, p < 0.001; avg. F(1,4) = 3.9, p = 0.02, respectively]. Peak N23 showed a significant reduction in latency during the 20 minute recovery period following both the first and second anaesthetic injections (t(3) = 7.52, p = 0.005; t(4) = 5.17, p = 0.007, respectively). Peak P42 occurred significantly earlier 20 minutes following the second anaesthetic injection (t(4) = 4.75, p = 0.009). The mean overall depth of anaesthesia assessed using PWR scores was significantly correlated with the mean latency of peak N23, such that as the strength of PWR increased, N23 occurred significantly earlier (r = ?0.99, p = 0.01). The amplitude difference between peaks N23 and P42 increased after the second and third drug administrations [avg. F(1,4) = 10.65, p = 0.031 and avg. F(1,4) = 11.24, p = 0.028, respectively]. Conclusion The characteristics of these peaks, and in particular latency of peak N23, may provide a useful tool for assessing depth of anaesthesia produced by this, and possibly other anaesthetic agents.  相似文献

ABSTRACT The capacity of the microflora in rockwool to suppress Pythium aphanidermatum, the causative agent of root and crown rot in cucumber, was assessed. Disease development of cucumber (Cucumis sativus) grown on rockwool was evaluated in an "ebb-and-flood" system with a recirculating nutrient solution after inoculation with P. aphanidermatum. In five independent experiments from 1995 to 1998, 11 batches of used rockwool were tested. All batches without P. aphanidermatum problems in the preceding cucumber crop had significantly lower numbers of diseased plants in nonautoclaved than in autoclaved used rockwool; the disease incidence was reduced by 52 to 100%. Suppressiveness also was present in rockwool previously used to grow other vegetable crops. Rockwool originating from a cucumber crop that was severely attacked by Pythium resulted in a high disease incidence. Previously unused (new) rockwool had higher or similar percentages of diseased plants than did nonsterilized used rockwool. Disease suppression in used rockwool could also be measured in a smaller test system. In both systems, autoclaved rockwool became suppressive to Pythium after recolonization with the indigenous microflora. Population sizes of total culturable aerobic bacteria as well as of fluorescent pseudomonads did not correlate with disease suppressiveness, as numbers of bacteria and pseudomonads were similar or lower in nonautoclaved (suppressive) than in autoclaved (nonsuppressive) rockwool. Differences in the structure of the bacterial populations could be visualized by using eubacterial polymerase chain reaction (PCR) followed by denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis (DGGE). Interestingly, the nonautoclaved and the recolonized used rockwool, which were both suppressive, showed different dominating bacterial groups as compared with the autoclaved rockwool. PCR-DGGE patterns obtained at different sampling times showed that the composition of the bacterial populations changed during plant growth. Fungal populations were present in the treatments that yielded suppressive rockwool, i.e., the nonautoclaved and the recolonized rockwool, but they were absent or present in low numbers in the autoclaved rockwool, which permitted a high disease incidence. Suppressiveness of rockwool to Pythium root and crown rot is a hitherto undescribed phenomenon, and knowledge of the mechanism and microorganisms involved will stimulate the development of microbially balanced soilless growing systems.  相似文献

Upon intravenous application of dihydrochlordene dicarboxylic acid-14C to rats, the radioactivity is quickly excreted, and 44% of the excreted radioactivity consists of metabolites. Nine metabolites have been isolated from feces and urine extracts. Three metabolites could be identified by means of authentic samples by thin layer chromatography, gas chromatography, and mass spectrometry: two isomers of dechlorodihydrochlordene-dicarboxylic acid (metabolites I and II, total 22.5%) and dihydrochlordene-dicarboxylic acid-dimethyl-ester (metabolite III, 11.3%).  相似文献

Forty-six isolates of Taylorella equigenitalis were analysed by pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE) after separate digestion of the genomic DNA with ApaI and with NotI. The isolates had been obtained from horses in six European countries and were classified into 18 genotypes. In Belgium, 2 genotypes were detected in 2 isolates, in England 9 among 15, in Finland 2 in 2, in France 2 among 10, in Sweden 3 among 5, and in Switzerland 3 among 12. Two English isolates and 4 French isolates gave identical PFGE profiles to those of Kentucky 188 from the United States. A common genotype was found in 5 isolates from Belgium and England and also in 10 isolates from France and Switzerland. The analysis of genomic DNA from 12 isolates of T. equigenitalis obtained from male horses in France, Sweden and Switzerland gave no evidence of a sex-related difference in the genomic DNA. Genomic DNA from 11 streptomycin (STM)-susceptible isolates obtained in Sweden and Switzerland were classified into four genotypes by PFGE. Each of the six genotypes determined among the 17 isolates from these two countries had single phenotypes for resistance or susceptibility to STM.  相似文献
