Botanical and agronomical traits were observed using 39 cultivars of coconut palms which mainly collected in the PhilipApines,
and statistically analyzed to clarify the variation between and within cultivar groups (typica, nana and javanica). Although
there were broad variations in all the traits except for several male flower characters, significant differences among three
cultivars were found in a dozen of traits. The variation within a cultivar group was higher in typica and javanica. Nana was
noted as an aggregate group, which was far distance from typica. Javanica was characterized as the intermediate group having
overlapping boundaries with other groups.

A swim bladder tumor was detected in one scoliotic medaka aged 22 weeks. The tumor was located in the dorsal abdominal cavity, with maximum dimension of 1,850 × 1,500 µm. No swim bladder lumen was identified, and the region where the swim bladder lumen would have been located, was replaced with adipose tissues. The tumor was a non-invasive, expansile, and encapsulated solid mass with a few cysts, and comprised a homogenous population of well-differentiated, densely packed, gas glandular epithelium-like cells. The tumor mass was connected to a rete mirabile that showed a hyperplastic capillary plexus; however, the tumor cells did not invade the rete mirabile, thereby revealing that the tumor was an adenoma originating from the gas glandular epithelium of the swim bladder. Since proliferative lesions in the swim bladder have been reported in some teleosts with skeletal deformations, including medaka, the occurrence of a spontaneous swim bladder tumor in teleosts is considered to be closely associated with various types of skeletal deformation, and spinal curvature in particular. 相似文献

Epoxides are an important class of industrial chemicals that have been used as chemical intermediates. Catalytic epoxidation of olefins affords an interesting production technology. We found a widely usable green route to the production of epoxides: A silicotungstate compound, [gamma-SiW10O34(H2O)2]4-, is synthesized by protonation of a divacant, lacunary, Keggin-type polyoxometalate of [gamma-SiW10O36]8- and exhibits high catalytic performance for the epoxidation of various olefins, including propylene, with a hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) oxidant at 305 kelvin. The effectiveness of this catalyst is evidenced by >/=99% selectivity to epoxide, >/=99% efficiency of H2O2 utilization, high stereospecificity, and easy recovery of the catalyst from the homogeneous reaction mixture. 相似文献

Kisspeptin is a key molecule that stimulates gonadotropin secretion via release of
gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH). In the present study, our aim was to
investigate whether kisspeptin has stimulatory effects on follicular development via
GnRH/gonadotropin secretion in cows. Japanese Black beef cows were intravenously
injected with full-length bovine kisspeptin [Kp-53 (0.2 or 2 nmol/kg)] or vehicle 5
days after they exhibited standing estrus (Day 0). In cows injected with Kp-53 at 2
nmol/kg, the follicular sizes of the first dominant follicles increased on Day 6 and
thereafter. Ovulation of the first dominant follicle occurred in 1 out of 4 cows
treated with Kp-53 at 2 nmol/kg. Injection of Kp-53 at 2 nmol/kg increased the
concentration of plasma luteinizing hormone (LH) but not follicle-stimulating
hormone, over a 4-h period following injection in all cows. The present study
suggests that administration of full-length kisspeptin causes LH secretion, which is
sustained for a few hours, and it is capable of stimulating follicular development

Grain deviations and high extractives content are common features of many tropical woods. This study aimed at clarifying their
respective impact on vibrational properties, referring to African Padauk (Pterocarpus soyauxii Taub.), a species selected for its interlocked grain, high extractives content and uses in xylophones. Specimens were cut
parallel to the trunk axis (L), and local variations in grain angle (GA), microfibril angle (MFA), specific Young’s modulus
(E′
L
/ρ, where ρ stands for the density) and damping coefficient (tanδL) were measured. GA dependence was analysed by a mechanical model which allowed to identify the specific Young’s modulus (E′3/ρ) and shear modulus (G′/ρ) along the grain (3) as well as their corresponding damping coefficients (tanδ3, tanδG). This analysis was done for native and then for extracted wood. Interlocked grain resulted in 0–25° GA and in variations
of a factor 2 in E′L/ρ and tanδL. Along the grain, Padauk wood was characterized, when compared to typical hardwoods, by a somewhat lower E′3/ρ and elastic anisotropy (E′/G′), due to a wide microfibril angle plus a small weight effect of extracts, and a very low tanδ3 and moderate damping anisotropy (tanδG/tanδ3). Extraction affected mechanical parameters in the order: tanδ3 ≈ tanδG > G′/ρ > > E′3/ρ. That is, extractives’ effects were nearly isotropic on damping but clearly anisotropic on storage moduli. 相似文献

Agricultural canals with deep concrete walls are commonly installed in paddy field areas following land consolidation projects in Japan. Such canals create a critical migration barrier for frogs, as escape is not possible after falling in. Hence, countermeasures that allow migrating frogs to cross agricultural canals, such as lid structures to prevent frogs from falling in or the creation of partial slopes to allow escape, have been developed to conserve endangered frog populations. The objective of this study was to design a method for evaluating the population viability of the endangered Japanese Brown Frog, Rana japonica, following the implementation of countermeasures. Two types of model simulations were examined: (1) a ??basic model,?? based on an age-structured model and (2) a ??crossing model,?? to evaluate migrating frogs crossing canals. Parameters, such as survival rate and fecundity, were estimated from field observation data of age-dependent population fluctuations. Comparison of a basic model simulation with the field observation data suggests model validation. The crossing model simulation, which had an initial population of 1,000 individuals, showed that a crossing proportion of greater than 30?C40% would achieve 95% population viability after 5?years. The simulation also showed that a crossing proportion of over 80% would also achieve 95% population viability after 40?years. These results indicate that frog survival during the migration period is insured, as long as no additional countermeasures are necessary after installation. 相似文献
